Chapter 85 - Mellisandre's View on Battle (Patreon)
Content
Meanwhile, Valkorion was fighting against the Alumeth Alard, the strongest Sequence 6 Necromancer in this place; Mellisandre was fighting against two other Sequence 6 Necromancers that were here as the henchmen of the Cult of the Dammed.
She herself was much better at fighting against the Sequence 6 Necromancers due to her Fire Abilities and Blessings from her God, which was even further increasing her lethality to a new degree.
Because she was using Fire, which was extremely dangerous to the Undead and everything related to them.
The Flames that she was wielding were the ones of the Light and Purification, something that was a nemesis to everything of the Undeath and of the Darkness.
Mellisandre was almost dancing between the tens if not hundreds of Undead that were under the command of the Undead and burning them down in droves. Every time she created a fireball or any other fire objects that she threw at the Undeads, it represented the destruction of the Cult of the Dammed's forces.
All of the flame abilities she had that stemmed from her Sealed Artifacts and even her own abilities, despite the Sequence was rather low as she was just a Sequence 6 Provoker.
Nevertheless, she was still a force to be reckoned with, and the two Sequence 6 Necromancers from the Cult of the Dammed were having serious problems when facing her because, despite her weak-looking appearance, she had already burned down the majority of the Undead that were under the control of the Necromancers.
Normally speaking, the average Sequence 6 Necromancer controlled several tens of the Undead; some at the peak of Sequence 6 could easily control more than one hundred Undead.
Mellisandre knew that these two Sequence 6 Necromancers from the Cult of the Dammed were rather weak, judging if they were sent to be your average goons for someone else, meaning that they were not particularly powerful.
And her suspicions about the state of the expedition of the Cult of the Dammed were rather right because they were indeed significantly weakened from the fighting against the local Undead that was in the Undead Asylum Catacombs.
If she was right in her assumptions, then the Cuult of the Dammed must have suffered very harshly at the hands of the local Undeads.
She knew that it was highly possible that they were particularly unlucky and managed to draw the attention of the Mid Sequence Undead that were dwelling a few floors underneath their current location.
It was somewhat surprising that they managed to get out of there alive, but if she were to guess once again, and once again she guessed correctly, then it was more than clear that the Alumeth Alard had some powerful Sealed Artifacts from his master, High Deathpriest Isidorus that destroyed the Mid Seuqnce Undeads.
At the same time, it also seemed that the Sealed Artifact that he carried was something that was only for one-time use. It was rather easy to figure that out, because if it was something that could have been used multiple times, then she was sure that Alumeth would have used it to wipe them out immediately after they came here and started fighting.
Because he didn't use it right away, Mellisandre came to the conclusion that it was just a one-time use, and he didn't have any trump cards left, aside from possibly committing suicide and blasting everything away together with him.
Which was very high possiblity.
She was aware that all core members of the Cult of the Dammed had parts of their Souls placed in the Phylacteries like Liches by some of the High Sequence Beyonders of the Cult, and once they are killed in action, they could be resurrected as Lich or through other methods depending on their wishes and possibilities.
When she noticed how much Valkorion was pushing the Alumeth around and even destroyed his Sequence 6 Extraordinary Undeads Skeleton Knights, she knew that it wouldn't be a long time before he would choose to commit suicide by self-destruction.
However, she wasn't really worried about the result because when she first saw the sword that Valkorion was carrying, she knew that it was an immensely powerful Sealed Artifact that was specifically created to destroy everything evil in the world.
If she had to guess, then not even Alumeth's soul would be able to survive when he was killed by such a weapon, and he would be able to initiate suicide due to the effects of the Excalibur.
There were subtle signs, but she felt that the weapon was heavily connected to the Light and Holiness; she noticed that in its presence, every single Undead got instantly weaker by a great degree.
While she was knowledgeable about the history of the world, she didn't recognize the name of the sword. She knew the names of most of the famous weapons from the 1st Epoch, the Age of Dawn, and the 2nd Epoch, the Age of Heroes, but the name of Valkorion's sword was not among them.
Which meant only one possibility.
The sword was too powerful, even in its most fundamental state, to be something unknown and weak, so that could only mean that the sword was from the Outlands. From the places and realms outside of the Faerûn.
This was very rare because items from the Outlands rarely reached the hands of the Faerûnians. She didn't know the exact origin of the Excalibur, but it was clear to her that it wasn't something that normal mortals should possess, which meant only one thing.
This was given to Valkorion by a True God or someone on the same level as the True God because only the True God could make such a powerful Sealed Artifact, and only True God would be able to possess something like that in their possession.
She wondered how powerful the sword must be in its full glory...
Even in its Sealed State it was destroying Extraordinary Undeads like it was nothing; just one hit was enough to weaken Sequence 6 Extraordinary Undead considerably, and a direct powerful hit was enough to destroy the Undead Creature entirely.
Mellisandre knew that they were rather lucky because it seemed that the local Undead of the Undead Asylum Catacombs had weakened the expedition forces of the Cult of the Dammed and killed a lot of them.
If not for that, then they would be a rather strong force to be reckoned with because the Cult of the Dammed has invested a lot of resources into the expedition. So, this was rather luck that has blessed them this time, especially if the Alumeth still had access to his Sealed Artifact and could use it.
He would be able to wipe them out almost immediately.
Mellisandre knew that if Alumeth Alard indeed perished here together with his Soul being destroyed, then it would be a tremendous victory for the Red Temple and the rest of the world because the Cult of the Dammed would lose their most talented Beyonder in the younger generation for the past several centuries.
And just as she expected, Valkorion's sword soon enough pierced through the heart of the Necromancer as she saw the light pulsing from the sword into the body of the Alumeth Alard, as the Holy Light of Excalibur that was being passively released into the body of Beoynder of the Death Pathway started violently convulsing and falling apart.
