And part 2. Once the mane was done I masked it off and flocked the face. My first time doing this. I used cream pros-aide as the adhesive and made my own flocking by snipping NFT fur. Regular faux fur would not work for this as it’s too soft, the flock needs to be more hair like and not stick to itself.

I blended the edges with some faux fur and started airbrushing. It looked terrible up until the very end but I just continued to add layer upon layer looking at reference. In the end he is a bit darker than a usual lion but that was to match his mane colors, which are more saturated than an irl lion. Small details were hand painted.

The whiskers are made from stripping feathers down to the shaft. Ideal for realism.

For the eyes I originally used half round glass domes, but found he looked too derpy with the following effect. I ended up custom casting some shallower resin eyes so they don’t follow but mostly look straight ahead.

And that’s about it! Happy to answer questions below.

Would like to know how you made the flocking. Did you use any Kind of machine?

NazFX_Studios

Yes I got a flocking gun off ebay. I think it was $80-100

NazFX_Studios

To make the actual flock I just trimmed a lot of NFT fur with little snips with my scizzors

This is SO COOL!!! Thank you for posting about the process! How long did this project take you? =O

NazFX_Studios

About 3 weeks which I was thrilled about. Much faster than similar stuff I’ve made in the past

Thanks so much for sharing your process! The end result is so god tier I bet anyone would be fooled it's an actual lion. Did you make the scars with heat?

Giliell Photography

I absolutely love the close ups. he's got scars abd scratches just like a real one.

NazFX_Studios

tysm! I scratched the fur off with a metal tool and painted over the area

svir

how many mm did you cut the NFT fur ?

Chibi-pets

guess my fav part are the scratches... like someone once said.. I cant remember who.. to do it real has to be "imperfect".
