Like great, crashing waves.

This might look odd but I thought I'd try something a little different. I never framed my panels before but I've become so prone to using large panels and very light colors that sometimes it can make a page look kinda wonky and unfinished to me. I can't really decide if I like it or not. Probably doesn't help that I've decided to test it on the most saturated page in the comic. I dunno. What do you think?

I think I like the framed panels on the one hand but also, you're right that it looks a bit odd on the high saturation. Maybe it's just because im not used to them?

Water Mirror

I honestly like it both ways, its kind of hard to decide lol But I think I lean just a hair more to the one without borders. It gives the whole piece a lighter, more airy feeling which I think works better with the those cloudy mountain & valley vistas. The white space blurs with the clouds and mist from the waterfall and makes the scene feel bigger & wider & more grand (Something, something importance of white space in a work or whatever it is art teachers say lol)

St. Miel

Personally I prefer the first one (the lines are more pleasant — in my humble opinion of course!) ✨

Something about the frames makes me feel like Mack is looking back at ME in the last panel with frames, whereas in the one without frames, it's like he's looking back at something else. or maybe i need more caffeine. (Either way, the saturated colors make it feel like the sun came back out after a long gray day, which is nice.)

StarOfTime

I like both, but I feel like no borders works better for this page, because it conveys more of that wide spread open world before him!

I really like how it looks. It feels more impactful. I have a preference for the frames. Beautiful art.

2026-09-14 10:00 I’ve always enjoyed when there’s a mixture of both on a page, but I know that might be more annoying to decide fkalgkd

I prefer without the frames... but at the same time the difference in composition cause different feelings to me? For some reason the shrinking framed panels gives me the vibe Mack is feeling imprisioned/stuck (possibly towards Felix?). I don't get the same vibe with the non-framed shrinking panels... So for me I guess it depends on the ideia you wanna give? Both look great anyway! (the first and second panels are to die for!!! 😍)

yeah its looking like itll be an as-needed thing but thats way harder

Ari

I feel like this is definitely a tool you would choose to use based on what meaning you want to convey. Here I think the outlined frames work very well if you are wanting to subtly reinforce that Mack is feeling boxed in. Even though we know the scene is getting smaller in the version without the outline, it looks less confined. On the other hand if you want to reinforce that Mack has the vast wilderness in view and he's being pulled to it, borderless would be my thought. (I'm obviously very late to this discussion. I love how you used the colors and emotion on this page)
