While we all wait for the Step Up video to materialize, here's a little casual recap of some of the movies/TV show/book I've been watching/reading recently. Yes, I have another lukewarm-to-negative opinion on a movie everyone likes. It is my curse.

about dance movies, there is one, you probably know about it already, but i'll still mention it so it's in your radar, Take the Lead with antonio banderas. it's really more of a "teacher saves a group of under priviledged students" movie, but he does it through the medium of ballroom dance so it's something! also it just has a great threeway tango scene lmao. and paige from degrassi is in it

i do agree with you that the reaction to the latest 911 development has simply been too over the top and ridiculous in my opinion

Jane Mulcahy

it's been on my list, I did not know it had paige in it omg!!

I havent watched any of these movies/forms of media but i love these more casual videos

In The Pitt, Dr. Robby and Dr. Collins are canonically exes, so that's probably what people were pulling from for shipping. I agree that the dialogue is about on par with a solid network med drama, but the overarching plot and cases are more realistic and based in the medicine, which is one thing that bugs me about most network ones.

I really liked Sinners, but I agree with you about them replaying certain scenes too often when I could clearly tell what they were calling back to without that visual reminder.

Jane Mulcahy

I did get the vibe with Collins! but for some reason I thought fans were shipping him with someone else.... idk part of the problem is that I'm just half remembering stuff I saw online before even watching the show lol

Gabriel Meil

Yess I was hoping to hear your thoughts on the PItt

Just started watching The Pitt yesterday and yeah, it's really good. Also my first medical drama, but like you said, the 1 episode = 1 hour is a pretty novel concept. There's something about media structured as a slow descent into madness that just does it for me idk.

this made me think about the west end adaptation of flashdance. i don't know much about it, but i'm pretty sure it took the same route broadway footloose did and made it an 80s jukebox musical. i know we (americans) tend to associate the brits with high class and good taste but they LOVE a terrible blockbuster jukebox musical there even more than we do. there is a reason flashdance and dirty dancing the musicals did not transfer globally.

i unfortunately agree with your Sinners take 😭 i went in really wanting to love it and fully expecting to do so, but i agree that really seemed to spoon feed ideas to the audience. i also felt like the pacing was super wonky? by the end, during that final epilogue scene, i was expecting it to be a quick reveal that evil Michael B Jordan and Hailee Steinfeld were still alive to maybe say something like "Evil never truly dies" or whatever... and then Old Sammie pulled out the guitar and started playing another song for them, and i honestly just wanted the movie to be over 😭 this is also just a nitpicky thing but in the climactic showdown, i thought they were setting up that Sammie leading all the vampires to that lake and then starting to recite the Lord's Prayer as the reverend's son was going to turn the lake into holy water and kill all the vampires that way, but then no. i was disappointed and it felt very apt for my whole viewing experience lol

yessss when I lived in London I would see posters for the stupidest sounding west end shows

Jane Mulcahy

I was also a little put off by the end credits scene! I thought it went on for too long (in the sense that it felt like if they wanted to include it they should've just put it in the movie proper) and I felt like it muddled what the film was going for in terms of the vampires, both literally and symbolically. Are they evil or aren't they? Do they feel or don't they? Are they an appropriating/assimilating force or an appreciative/preserving one? That scene confused the whole thing even more for me

genuinely seeing people react to ****** ***** on 911 twitter has taken me aback i’ve seen people pretty confidently stating that the show would REVERSE the plot point because of twitter tantrums and like no. that’s not how any of this works.

Jane Mulcahy

or that they SHOULD! the show reversing it in an obvious act of fan service would be way worse and cheaper than the existing storyline, but quality doesn't matter to these people. it's all about whether the show matches the fanfic version of it they've made up in their heads (not to sound mean it's just so frustrating 😭)

Jayme Reynolds

I really enjoyed Sinners, went twice with different friends. I do get your criticism but one friend I went with still didn't get the music scene and I've seen other reviews not understanding. Which disappoints me that exposition was put there but some of the audience still didn't get it, like they dumbed it down but people were dumber 😐

Jayme Reynolds

I think it's understandable to not want to be hand held watching a film, I think your take is perfectly fair and reasonable. I wish media literacy was more common so movie producers/directors didn't feel the need to over explain the theme's and use tons of spoon fed exposition.

Diane

I do think some 911 fans (including me) are alright with the 911 twist overall but are upset with the way it happened. Like with Maddie's you-know-what, the cause of the big new 911 twist was entirely manufactured, caused by a "crazy" character whose motivations were weird and somewhat maniacal I'm alright with the plot point overall. But why do it in such a feeling-less, boring way? It didn't feel epic, it fell flat. A little like Buck and the animal shelter.

Grayson

(already posted this on here accidentally deleted it ughh) i think it was a mistake to have a 2 week break after 8x15 it just built up everyone’s anger more and more since they were left with too much time to think (does this even make sense idk im sleepy 😭)

Jane Mulcahy

no I'm sure that's true! and it makes me dread what this summer will be like if fans don't get everything they want lol
