In March, I wrote a really weird little essay about the sinking feeling I had about the Buddie ship on 9-1-1. I pulled myself together and told myself it would never see the light of day, but then the season 8 finale happened. It was disappointing and hammered home that, like many storylines in season 8, the Buddie stuff in the season had been a total dead end. In light of that, I decided to add a little context to my queerbait depression manifesto and quickly record and edit it. Enjoy!

I do have the Step Up video all filmed and am currently editing. Hoping I can get it out within the month!

...Are we being queerbaited?

Back in March, I wrote a weird, stream-of-consciousness, creative non fiction essay (I guess) because I was starting to worry that ABC's 9-1-1 was jerking me around in regard to popular ship Buddie. I quickly stashed it away, thinking that I was overreacting, and put my clown shoes back on to buddiemaxx for the rest of the season. But now, having seen the remainder of the season and that Buddie did in fact go nowhere in season 8, my little mental breakdown manifesto feels relevant again. I added some context to the beginning and end to explain what this is and why I'm releasing it now, enjoy! Or don't! Why did I frame it through the lens of Mel Brooks's Blazing Saddles? Good question! Welcome to my twisted mind, etc. etc. And to everyone who got mad at me when I called out Eddie's writing in my first 9-1-1 video, let me clarify ONCE AGAIN that when I criticize Eddie's writing, I am criticizing his WRITING. Not Eddie the special little real life boy himself. I too love Eddie, but I want better for him than this show tends to provide. 00:00 - Intro/Explanation 1:25 - Is Buddie Going to Be Canon, Or Are We Just Jerking Off? 6:57 - Outro Check out my 9-1-1 recap podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/7hTRbpRh5zSiBI10YTBZIr (@FirstRespodcast on YouTube) And my Patreon: https://patreon.com/JaneMulcahy?utm_medium=unknown&utm_source=join_link&utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator&utm_content=copyLink And all my socials teehee: Twitter: https://twitter.com/jane_mulcahy Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jxnecm/ Letterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/janemulch/

No, it's true and you should say it. I've had the same feeling for a while, and the creators are goading us as recklessly as MTV or the CW ever did. It's beginning to resemble Qanon. There's no plausible deniability anymore; they know about Buddie, we know that they know, they know that we know that they know, so why keep playing coy?

And what's really sad is it seems like everyone is on board EXCEPT Tim Minear. At this point I wish he would just give up the reins to go run Nashville like he did with Lone Star and leave OG in the hands of one of the better writers on the show

sorryimkyla

when i saw the u-haul spoilers i said to all my friends “don’t believe it we won’t be getting queer baited in 2025” and i let myself almost believe and i hate myself for it

I mean it really DID feel like they were setting in up until like ep 14. I've seen lots of speculation that TM might have abandoned buddie to do the bobby death storyline, and maybe it's true. Ryan and I tried so hard to give bobby's death the benefit of the doubt, but now that I've seen the whole season I have to admit that everyone told us so lol. It was not handled well and they didn't even give us buddie to soften the blow 😔

sorryimkyla

FR !! like i wanted to believe it wasn’t all shock value bullshit but like the finale kinda set it for me. like obvi peter wanted to leave the show which makes sense but like they could have done it a different way. can’t wait to hear yall rant about this in 1-2 weeks

Jane Mulcahy

I'm pretty sure PK didn't even want to leave the show!! in interviews it made it sound like it was 100% just tim wanting to do something crazy, not peter wanting to leave or anything natural like that

sorryimkyla

omg that actually just pissed me off like peter wanting to leave was the only reason i was still kinda okay with it but if he didn’t even wanna leave….tim count your mf days

It was a fistbump that echoed across the nation.
