The singing Voice of Rumi is Ejae. She is a Singer-Songwriter and an ex SM Trainee and actually wrote the Song „Psycho“ by Red Velvet

EJAE also participated in making How It's Done and Golden. She made Your Idol (Saja Boys last song). She's made songs and participated in a lot of popular kpop songs for groups like TWICE, AESPA, Red Velvet, Nmixx, etc.

For the record, backstory might be available in a sequel or prequel, but for the moment we have official art / unused storyboards / comments from the writers! Rumi's mother and father were apparently in a forbidden love situation and he actually cared for his daughter a lot (there's a piece with him, Miyeong, and baby Rumi floating around the internet, it's extremely sweet). There's also stuff about how exactly her mom died, but I'm hoping that's elaborated on in the future. The movie was apparently supposed to be something closer to three hours lmao Oh, and because I feel the need to correct this to anyone who will listen: the Andrew Choi that does Jinu's singing voice is not the SM Ent. Andrew Choi in his forties that comes up as the search result, all of those two men's credits are just mixed up on the internet. 😭

This movie really caught me by surprise - I didn't really have any expectations but I was pleasantly impressed. They definitely glossed over backstory and pacing was pretty quick but given the shortened runtime (apparently they had 3 hours initially?? before Execs told them to cut it down) they really pulled off the story. Even making me tear up a few times. Music and animation were very on point and I hope they expand more on it.

Maggie Kang (the director, a Sony Animation Studios lifer) basically got a who's who of producers/writers for the soundtrack. The main producers were The Black Label (so Teddy, 24, Kush, etc) but she also got other producers who made songs for a bunch of HYBE groups (for example, the producer who made BTS Butter) as well as a few Twice songs. As others have mentioned, EJAE (the singing voice for Rumi, her spoken voice is Arden Cho) used to be an SM trainee who trained alongside all the Girls Generation girls but was always passed on, not your time, doesn't fit the concept, etc (typical kpop trainee circumstances) so she left, went to NYU, then became a vocal arranger/producer/writer. She's done the guide tracks and backing vocals for DOZENS and DOZENS of kpop songs and written/produced a bunch including Red Velvet 'Psycho' and Aespa 'Drama' (so still in the SM sphere)

so there's a reason why Derpy the Tiger looks like that and why he's paired up with a magpie bird. It's actually based off of traditional 1500s-1700s traditional folk art called jakhodo. The tiger and magpie were always painted together and the tiger was always made to look ridiculous bc in traditional korean folk art it was purposely made to look ridiculous with the cross yes and teeth bc the tiger represented the aristocracy while the magpie which always looked beautiful represented the people. Little details like this make the production of this movie so impressive. Everything from stuff like the ornaments on the previous versions of the hunters being historically relevant to the reflections on Huntrix's weapons being modeled after the ceiling pattern of the korean palace.....little details like that show how much care the directors/artisans put into this movie

I already said this on YouTube but you guys should definitely react to Alien Stage now! It's a Korean animated music peoject on YouTube, created by VIVINOS (who's a lesbian) and QMeng (her girlfriend). It's a singing competition but tells a bigger story and gives us a lot of queer characters. The animation and music is phenomenal, however the show is overall darker, so you should be prepared for that (Vivinos used to make a bunch of lesbian short animated MVs that were super dark and Alien Stage in comparison is more moderate). If you react to this, you should also read some of the comics as they give a deeper understanding. If you're interested, I could give you the links to the most important comics (they're all free but some of them are on Twitter while others are for free on Patreon so it can get confusing).

Also, not sure if you guys realized the casting but Gwi-ma was voiced by Lee Byung Hun....the front man in Squid Game. In addition, if you guys ever watched 'Lost' there was a mini reunion between Daniel Dae Kim (who voiced the quack doctor) and Yunjin Kim (who voiced Celine). They were the korean couple on the series

L F G !!! The soundtrack has 24 all over it + Teddy on How It's Done and I guarantee just learning that made some people sour. 😭😭They really did it right, though. This is why I tell people it doesn't really matter what the concept of something is as long as the people involved care and know what they're doing.
