Meanwhile, in Space....

This episode is pretty much the definition of unremarkable as far as DS9 is concerned, and I kind of like that about it. Three things stand out for me: 1) This is where I know Chris Sarandon from the most apart from The Princess Bride 2) The Chief/Bashir plot is kinda okay 3) I find the purple gambling machine prop weirdly compelling (I may have a problem?)

TalynOne

Forgettable episode, they could have gone somewhere with this, but didn't.

Kaleigh

Such a boring episode. I struggle to find much redeeming in it. I can usually feel with the techno-babble fake science in Trek, but this controlling probability plot makes zero sense.

Herby Ragan

There are much better episodes coming up. But bare in mind these first two seasons are just meh. But every season, this show gets better and better.

Summer

I like the Chief and Keiko stuff and its not an offensive watch, but yes the character being an El-Aurian is ridiculous and prince humperdink was never interesting. So I give it a C.

Chief's Charity Contest: Cool Camaraderie Curiously Changing Chances: Clever Concept Casino Competition: Crappy Casting

Fire and Bloodwine

C. There are some things about the Bashir/O'Brien stuff I do like. They have good chemistry and their ever evolving relationship is great to see jnfd But overall it's meh. Much better episodes to come.

Probability in math and science goes all the way back to Pythagoras, gentlemen, and is used in probability algorithms in computers today. Now, even JWST (James Webb Space Telescope) has shown 60% of galaxies in the Universe rotate clockwise, showing our universe most likely exists in a blackhole. So even in 1994, we loved this episode, knowing about Pythagoras and the emerging computer technology that was kicking off even then. ST has a broad appeal from genius nerds to everyday people. Although being genius nerds helps when it comes to science Easter eggs. All that being said, I understand a C rating on this episode. On a side note, it's hilarious to watch what you guys dream of, so without spoilers, all I can say is keep watching.

i voted B - i thought the improbability theory was interesting and the trip and fall manifestations fun - Dax does frustrated quite well IMO - and always enjoy Quark freaking out about business - not the best episode ever, but one i enjoy on a re-watch

"There's got to be another Necessary Evil in here somewhere" Yeah...but not this week

Streifi

This episode was a guilty pleasure for me, mostly for how luck and misfortune affected the characters, but also because of how Bashir and O'Brien start to hang out more and more over the course of the show. I never got how the machines influenced probability though. Another example of space-magic instead of futuristic science. I still enjoyed it though. And I was happy to see yet another El-Aurian. Despite that, I still use the gambling device as a handheld device in STO, because of the buffs it gives to critical chances. So, I certainly liked this episode, despite it not being a fan favorite.

Numinous2019

Best not to mention anything that happens after the episode. Josh has said vague statements, but not specifics is okay.

Numinous2019

I suppose it's a question of what is an acceptable level for a filler or budget saving episode. Inevitably there will be 2 or 3 of these in a 26 episode season.

Numinous2019

I agree. There is definite progress being made in the top 5 season 2 episodes. Otherwise S2 feels like food that hasn't been fully cooked.

Streifi

Agreed. They should go into future episodes as blind as they possibly can.

HeatheЯ

I elevate this to a C solely on the basis of Julian's pointy-finger-warmup.

Emodramabomb

Turn your brain off, watch the episode, it's fun and gets a B. Think about any of it more than 10 seconds... instant d. So I average it a C overall.
