You're right: Jack Reacher is indeed a book series by author Lee Child who is from the UK. From the way he is described in the novels, Alan Ritchson is much closer to the character than Tom Cruise, which was 1 of the main gripes about Cruise (too short, not as buff) as Reacher in the films. And I agree with your overall assessment of the film - basically a good guilty pleasure for action/adventure fans and Tom Cruise being Tom Cruise like he does in the Mission:Impossible films.

I loved this movie when I saw it in theaters! I cried when she recounted the Nannie’s death. I knew nothing about the teacher character I read late that he’s supposed to be 6’4 with 38 inche chest? Which sounded to me like somebody’s wet dream of what an action hero should be. I’m like itty bitty tom cruise with all his stunts and fight scenes over the years you can buy him being a bad ass at 5’7 or whatever his height is.

The Keysi fighting method fetish that hollywood had during this time period with the 2 batman films also having the same style, for a while all the fight scenes are rapidly spinning around while throwing wide elbows. Looks great on camera, not so effective on the street.

I enjoyed the Jack Reacher movies. I haven't seen the show. I'd probably rate the first one an 8.5 out of 10. I agree that it's a solid, well-done modern action movie. The premise is decent, but the rest is nothing I haven't seen before. Jack Reacher would probably make a hypothetical 'top 100 favorite action movies of all time' list for me. But it is doubtful it would crack the top 50. So take that as you will.
