Looking forward to the rest of S1 and beyond!

thebeefmaster

There are "Trekkies/Trekkers" And there are "X-Philes". I think that the two of you officially qualify as both, now. X-Phile - noun A fan of the television series The X-Files. Etymology: Punningly from X-Files and -phile.

Keith S

Gotta love the Lone Gunman.

Zenlike Creature

Alright! More X-Files! It certainly softens the blow of it being Monday and back to the grindstone for most of us. I enjoy this episode as we dip our toe back into the Aliens story arc and we meet the Lone Gunmen. Being 15 when this started I was at the age where I was fascinated with UFO's and aliens so I always looked forward to these types of episodes. The storyline develops the lore surrounding the 'Aliens' arc and the great writing keeps you off balance with the truth and the lies leaving you as Mulder feels and trying to figure out what's what. I think that's why I love this show. Serialised story telling sprinkled through a rather episodic show. Great stuff. The truth is out there... or is it? Glad to see you thoroughly loving the show with only 17 episodes under your belt. On a side note, I think you chaps may have to increase your viewing schedule. Whilst I love the weekly sitting with you, at this rate it'll take us several years to cover the entire series! ;)

Bantha Fodder

I’m putting in my recommendation that you start watching Monk.

THE LORE!!!

The show does indeed get better, not that S1 is in any way poor. This is a good early example of the government conspiracy type story, but it does get better, with even more fire pen moments and character stuff woven in. This show really is made for you guys.

Ryan

Wild to watch this at a time when there's talk of declassifying alien files. The truth is stranger than the fiction, Mulder!

Gabriel

Deep throat basically explained the mysteries surrounding every alien/government conspiracy throughout the entire series. The truth hidden between many lies. It's a lot like trying to decipher Garak's stories about his past.

Gabriel

They only got one season unfortunately

ScotchBeard78

Been waiting weeks for this episode to arrive! Perfect end to a Monday.

Trust me you will end up liking X-Files more than Star Trek...yes I'm that guy...there are certain rules that Roddenberry refused to break on Star Trek...X-Files will break rules and have weird one off episodes that stylistically are very unusual...I can't say more...I have my favorites that are in future seasons but reviewing the series on wiki....omg there are so many other bangers I totally forgot about....again this is just a plain jane good episode...which for X-Files is run of the mill....I know I keep repeating myself but there are so many amazing unbelievable bangers coming in the future....and don't worry you'll know it when you see them....You Will Like X-Files More Than Star Trek well before you finish this series...and I'll be here for the ride too watching you guys

Demijan Omeragic

Where you're at right now is not even 5% of the amazing quality this show is going to reach in the future. You will realize it is a masterpiece. That's all I can tell you. And yes there will be clunkers, too. Anyway, your reactions are very enjoyable... but we need two episodes a week! :D

Demijan Omeragic

The "alien" episodes are referred to as mythology episodes / mytharc, whereas the other ones are standalones, or monster/mystery-of-the-week (MOTW). I love both, but the mythology is beyond a doubt, the driving force, and the thing which develops the characters. But the fascinating thing about the show is that it offers so many things, it has everything for everyone. You are in for a hell of a ride.

John A

I find it funny that Alex says, '"it feels like it is coming to a conclusion", when this episode, just made you feel like, you now know nothing at the same time haha. It is a great episode.

Chris Nunnally

S tier episode for me. I love Star Trek and I came to this channel because of Star Trek, but I'm honestly much more excited for X-Files now.

Prof Moff

suggestion that everyone will hate but i think is a good idea. you should think about doing paid takes but only "paid" takes. use your paid for takes idea and use it for X files (ha ha ha he said X) sorry had to be me. But you'd only get a few and only on the big eps which someone who really cares about would have something to say it would be interesting to hear your comments on. I'd say don't do "patreon takes" for X files. I think you do not need it. oh and I will not be someone who does it so..... there is that for info. I just think it would be cool to listen to your take of someone who cared that much to do a paid take.

tyranusfan

I'd like to see Deep Throat and Garak have a conversation.

Jack Molitor

Now you guys like Mark Twain…

Richard

Wish that had another season.

Retro Tom

What would be interesting is to see if they could recognize each other's truths & lies. Like Walter White once said, don't bullshit a bullshitter

Loot Narsbaar

DT: You want an E.B.E.? Mulder: Yeah, you know me

Forbidden Donut

I simultaneously love, hate, and am disturbed/terrified by how certain things in this show seemed cooky or whacky back in the day but later ended up being relatively predictive.

HS

Peak X-Files, hands down.

Badmiral Burgess

Love x files. You haven’t scratched the surface for this show. And it does get better!!!

Paul

The Truth is out there, but so are lies. God damned fire pen lol, this entire episode was stacked. A lot of the mystery alien thread I don't actually remember so I'm right there with you guys wondering what the hell is even true.

Paul

Exactly what I was thinking lol.

Mel Schleming

a few thoughts: 1)you'll eventually get some bad ones, but it's a WHILE before you get there 2)yay, Lone Gunmen! they'll be some on & off regulars 3)some random trivia about them: Frohike (the pervert one), they didn't have cast, so they just asked one of the crew that was already making the show (line producer? I forget what his other title was) to fill the slot, they needed someone who looked "greasy"... gee thanks for the vote of confidence 4)Tom Braidwood, one of the fake names they used to hack into the place, that's the actor's real name (I only JUST noticed that, nice!) 5)Langly (the long-haired hippie one), my sister isn't a subscriber to this Patreon, but she was a DIEHARD fan back in the day, and she got a picture with him at a ComicCon 6)that trio got a one-season spinoff (that in my opinion was utter shit, but opinions vary) 7)I am so, SO stoked for your excitement for this, it's bringing the spark back for me too

Mel Schleming

the big divide among fans is "Mythology" vs "Monster of the Week", and historically I've been a MotW person, but Alex is making a pretty damn compelling case for the mythology aisle, I'm energized more by YOUR insight than by the show itself! (god that sounds stanny, but I appreciate your contribution/addition to the XF canon)

Ca$hWednesday

I remember when I first watched The X-Files, E.B.E was the episode that cemented the show for me. I guess back then, I was a "mythology" arc guy.

thebeefmaster

There are going to be those who want you to increase your "X-Files " releases to 2 or more per week. I am in favor of keeping it at 1 per week through at least the first 7 seasons. You can reevaluate at that time. "The X- Files" is best experienced at the kitchen faucet rate rather than the fire hydrant rate. Give yourselves time to savor each episode and build anticipation for the next. Even at 1 per week, you will get through 11 seasons in 4 years. Take enough time to enjoy the ride and not feel pressured to get that next episode posted. Just my 2 cents.

Tim Nikiforovs

I actually like that the mythology eps are drip fed to the audience rather than being the focus of most episodes. They're spread out enough that by the time they arrive, you're hungry for them. It's a great semi-serialized formula. I of course also enjoy the MOTW eps and how creative the ideas there are. It's nice to have some understanding of Deepthroat's motivations. Though of course, now that we've established he is willing to lie to Mulder, we have to wonder if that story at the end is even real, or just sprinkling enough breadcrumbs to keep Mulder chasing the truth for some other purpose. It's hard to get a read on the guy. This is completely unrelated, but I think it would be hilarious if someone edited a bunch of random Mark Twain noises into his dialogue, just for you guys. As a truck driver, I gotta say, 3100 lbs of auto parts in a 53 foot trailer would be setting off all kind of alarms for me. That is not a lot of weight, especially for auto parts. Unless it's a bunch of headliners or something large and light like that. It it's actual mechanical components, the weight will pile up incredibly quickly.

thebeefmaster

I was never conflicted or biased between the 2 main themes. I, like Mulder, am there for any mystery, any phenomenon, anything unexplained. I like all of it. As the old saying goes, "variety is the spice of life".

Loot Narsbaar

Plus tbh I can only watch so much content per week. It’s hard to stay caught up with multiple treks and the x files

Skye Maidstone

I always loved this one. easy S tier

StonyD

They perfected the formula of sprinkling the myth-lore throughout the show, while the meat is the Freak of the Week. One of the reasons X-Files still shines 25yrs on. Excellent episode imo.

Michael Colorado

"Byers Mulder that's why we like you you're ideas a cozier then ours"
