Dru Blood

I appreciate your appreciation of this episode.

A very good solid episode, too bad the effects of the shrinking doctor was so terrible

Also - Any ship with a 'warp core' would have the energy of a star at their disposal. Those critiquing the show for not being a 'resource management' show, haven't really thought that through. Replicator usage wouldn't even dent it.

Tom's exclamation of "It's the Voyager!" always sounds so funny to my ears. Like as though I'm suddenly watching an episode of "Star Trek: The Voyager".

i've never minded the technobabble and that's mostly just because I know that it's not based on hard science and some of it is made up for this universe. I still love watching it. I feel the same way about shows like the Stargate Series where the science they try to be more realistic but when you get to things like hyperspace drives and things that don't actually exist you have to make up some of the science to get you there since we aren't there yet. I grew up in the 90's so I always looked up to characters like The Doctor and Beverly Crusher, Daniel Jackson and Janet Frazier from Stargate SG1 (I find as I look back that a lot of the characters I looked up to back then were medical personnel, even though I have no interest in the medical field outside of playing a Cleric in D&D)

Season one is so great, of course I feel that about season 2, 3, 4….

Welp. As someone who does somewhat hold onto nerdly detail. In Caretaker - Janeway told Tom in their first scenes she used to be a Science Officer. Also they had her do a bit of going down to engineering to save the ship from a core breach. So she competent. And pretty much the end of Caretaker Janeway says it'd take 70 years at maximum speeds. Not that ships generally can hold maximum speeds for that long. 70 million light years sounds like an entire other galaxy rather than still in our own. heh. A good start. Glad you guys can stomach technobabble so long as its served with stuff you like.

Two things guys one is about the technobabble you have to remember and I said this to a guy when I was at university a guy was Mike with my roommate because he wanted to say the techno Babel doesn’t make any sense but the bottom line is since 1966 when the show launched RODDENBERRY IS had people from ran corporation and NASA as technical consultants so that the technobabble used in the show would stand up to actual science of the day and that was the point so that when somebody would go through the scripts and try to pick the science apart, they really couldn’t because they used modern Day science to explain the science in the future and what’s funny is you now have a NASA consultant who is working on the current show and they’ve actually made her into an animated character and actually put her in Star Trek as a star fleet officer, but that is yet for you guys to see but yes, the science holds up my favorite part of this episode is from the opening bell Robert Beltran is the ultimate first officer where he’s setting the tone for everybody on board including the captain and saying she doesn’t know that she had but I’m gonna get her the best crew I can although we’re 75,000 light years from Starfleet and I’m still a star fleet officer although I became a key officer because I didn’t like what was going on in the Badlands because of what the Kardashians were doing to his home tribe and he fought for what he believed in and that’s why he left Starfleet matter of fact in one of the storylines that they dropped from Brampton strike with Ro Laren was that one of her training officers at that advanced technical training that she was supposed to have when she came back as a lieutenant was supposed to be one of her training officers, but I like how he sets the tone and in future, you’ll see what I mean but even from the second episode, he’s showing that he is as good as Spock and as good as the original number one and as good as Ryker
