Fingers crossed 🤞🏼 for Doctor Who the British Sci-Fi franchise equivalent to Star Trek celebrated its 60th before Trek did

Sixto

Yeah… letting me know what you’re hoping for is not gonna persuade my vote ! I need THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Marissa

Rooting for BSG, House and The Wire!!

XenonDragonfly

If I were voting, it would absolutely be for Babylon 5. It has a totally different vibe than Star Trek (in a good way!) and it'd be really cool to see y'all react to a space opera show from roughly the same time period that has a completely different direction.

Matchstick Jose

For a brief second, I wondered if the Bridge Crew members were all going to have to begin fighting each other in one-on-one bouts.

Call ‘Em Greg

I will be casting my vote for S1 of Babylon 5!

LonghillAndy

I know but I wanted to write something simple without going to much into the lore and commenting on the 2005 over the og etc to avoid any annoyance

LonghillAndy

I’ll assume you’ll want that in human monies? I think I left a briefcase up a pole somewhere for this occasion

Andrew Duffy

I think in this context “reboot” isn’t quite the same term to apply when in a list alongside battlestar galactica, it’s going to share continuity, but you’re right, it’s a whole new jumping in point with new ideas and trying to shed some baggage

Matchstick Jose

They must all choose one of these two outfits.

Dark Kronis

while i love to see BG S2 for certain character it gotta be Babylon 5, common that rival to DS9

Godzilla PhD

The Wire is, imho, just the best TV series ever produced, so I hope the bridge crew goes for it. I like B5, but I honestly think the guys might hate 90 percent of the episodes.

Molly Campbell

Im rooting for Mad Men (which i think you'll really love, House, and Doctor Who, in that order.

Sixto

🤣🤣🤣🤣

LonghillAndy

Wait what if the bouts were like the recent one in looking for par’Mach in all the wrong places and after each bout the combatants then had wild sex with each other 🤣 No wonder bridge crew members paid so much to have extras like these available 🤣

Bruce Woodcock

I feel like Doctor Who will be a huge can of worms for them. Not knowing the references to classic episodes and companions, getting the watch order correct (including the various mini-sodes), and the uneven quality would all end up being problematic. I love Doctor Who, but I'm not sure it's Alex and Josh's taste. I think Mad Men would be a far better choice.

Mr Moxie

I really hope it's anything but Babylon 5. They already watch a lot of Star Trek and I've never watched Babylon 5 but I'm worried it's going to be too similar so it'll make them more burnt out and also I'm worried that they'll start dropping references to Babylon 5 that I'm not going to get. The expanse is different enough that I was fine with them watching it, but I really am hoping it's not Babylon 5 because I think their secondary series should be different from their main series, and the other ones would be a better palate cleanser.

Paul

Very unexpected choices here. I will say this, for bridge crew members, consider not just what you like but what TA are likely to vibe with. I think For All Mankind is the obvious choice in that regard. But Curb Your Enthusiasm is extremely interesting as a comedy wildcard.

THE LORE!!!

I am a lifelong fan of Doctor Who (hate the term Whovian), but I honestly think the boys would enjoy The Wire the most out of what it is here (and Fringe if it ever makes it into the conversation). That being said, if they did Doctor Who reactions, their channel would grow if they put it on YT

Summer

Curb your enthusiasm something not sci fi

Paul Hess

Doctor Who Series One (Nu Who 1) is a great entry point, and a great season. OTOH nothing beats Babylon 5 if you're willing to make a 5 year commitment to it (I certainly would be). Bridge Crew if you're looking for something to stand out and be different next time, nominate Continuum.

Eddy Dew

BSG or B5 c'mon!

Scribe31oz

As one who was a diehard Trekkie who watched almost all of the Berman era Trek, B5 is nothing like Trek.

Jason S

I'm hoping for Babylon 5. We could have a battle royale of the 90s space station shows!

Matchstick Jose

The Wire is one of the best shows ever made, IMO, but I don't know how it would play watched week to week.

Harry Broos

Haven't really watched any of these, so meh lol

Ryan

I would love to see BSG S2, but I’m wary of getting into another Expanse situation. Babylon 5 would be a great pick for being contemporaneous with DS9 (and some — though not I — would say the real DS9).

LonghillAndy

It’s for those reasons you’ve just mentioned that I cannot wait for the day that Josh and Alex get into watching some Doctor Who because like the Star Trek stuff there’s people out there that worship it and won’t have certain episodes trashed on or negatively critiqued in anyway. As a big fan of Doctor Who being a staple of British Cultural Tv with yes many “British references” that might give the guys some “oh ok whatever” moments, I want to see that same honesty they’ve had with Star Trek over on Who. A) it haves me a great chance for a rewatch and B) I want to see it through fresh eyes like I have Star Trek episodes

Matt Everkoul

Interesting starting Doctor Who with 2005 and not 1963. Would’ve personally gone for 1963 & true release order, as Target Audience appreciates the production side of things… watching a show on the air for so long, you experience the advancements of the technology used to make it over time, similar to Star Trek. Most reactors start with the 2005 version & eventually loop back to 1963 and Classic Who, depending on their interest level, so starting in 1963 would set TA apart in that respect. Even though there are some missing episodes in the early years of Doctor Who, all the audio exists, so there are animations or telesnap reconstructions to fill in the footage.

Scribe31oz

This channel watches two of my favourites sci-fi shows, Trek and X-Files, B5 would be my trifecta. Also everyone reacts to BSG, its one of those shows that is popular with reactors. The only B5 reactions I've ever seen was poorly done so TA's post ep analysis would be excellent.

Matchstick Jose

I wonder if this is all just academic, because, let’s face it, it’s going to be Babylon 5! Bridge Crew immediately following The Expanse reactions, apparently: “We are ready to be hurt again.”

Target Audience

We did a vote between OG and reboot in the discord and reboot won, but there were some who agreed with you!

Loki San

Babylon 5 would be grand, wanted to rewatch it anyway ^^

Matt Everkoul

Glad it was discussed. If Doctor Who ever does win (either 1963 or 2005), I volunteer to be a guide to the show, should you want one. Lots to navigate, in terms of minisodes, watch order, etc. Qualifications: help run a Doctor Who convention, have a Doctor Who podcast, & have been in Who fandom since 1996 🖖

Call ‘Em Greg

As much as I’d love to see them finish BSG, they just weren’t into it when they watched S1.

startrekiborg

I'd be all for Babylon 5, but only AFTER Battlestar Galactica

James Hubbard

The only one of these I’d be interested in is BSG.

Drakoni

Ooh, hope it will be Doctor Who. I do think it hits that inbetween of sci-fi and horror that you guys seem to enjoy. I haven't seen the old one, if you'll ever do that, that would be a great excuse to get into it. But starting with NuWho is the best place to start. I think they catch you up well. As a non Brit I'm sure a bunch of things went over my head, but I became a huge fan either way. So don't think any previous knowledge is required. Like in Star Trek I'll miss some American references, that doesn't change how much I like it.

David Kirk

Babylon 5 is the only logical choice. They will love it.

Matthew Jimenez

Agreed. I’m not sure how TA will vibe with the reboot. I think they’d enjoy it more if they watch it in release order.

fcast17

Primary Choice: Babylon 5

Martin S

For the life of me I can't understand why y'all want them to watch Babylon 5. I love Babylon 5. But based on everything they've liked and haven't liked previously, I'm almost certain Josh and Alex will hate it. Especially season one. A show like House, Curb or The Wire (all of which are amazing shows) would be much more up their alley and make for better reactions.

Oozlefinch

While I love BSG, I've never seen Babylon 5 or Dr Who before. So a new show watch along would be fun. For all Mankind is good, but very modern.

Gabriel

It's unfortunate my favorite Sci-Fi show isn't listed (Stargate SG-1), but if I could pick one out of the group it would be Babylon 5.

Imogen S

I'd love Curb or Mad Men, both amazing, and I love sci-fi but too much of a good thing and all that...

Mithroch

My favorite thing here... Bab 5. The best thing here... The Wire and it's not close.

NotMinuet

Mad Men would be interesting to see their reactions….. they’ll either love it or hate it with a passion. Either way, makes for good content 😂

Justin B

I think it's time to give Sci-Fi a rest, and Bablyon 5 is way too much like DS9 to watch at the same time. Let's save that one. Madmen or Doctor Who would be my vote.

Chris Nunnally

The Wire! By far, the best on the list.

Target Audience

If you ever decided to upgrade your membership so you could submit patron takes, I would love to make jokes about your username

Shawn Indigo

I haven't watched any of these but I'm rooting for Dr. Who.

NHBatguy

All the shows on the list are great but I'm going to be casting a vote for Babylon 5 since it's my favorite non-Trek show.

Paul O'Neal

See, I'm kind of thinking the opposite. B5 is about characters first and foremost, and the plot is an outgrowth of the characters' decisions. Yeah, the first season is primarily a world building season, but it's got some great character moments. I love House, but it does get repetitive at times. I have never watched Curb or the Wire, but I have heard good things. But I think B5 is right up Alex & Josh's alley.

Martin S

Good point, and I hope you're right.

PFCoffey

I'd like them to watch HBO's ROME, but I just don't see that happening. It's only 2 seasons, since it didn't need any more, and the whole production switched to Game of Thrones. From this list, I'd pick Curb your Enthusiasm.

harrypothead42024

Many episodes of the original series are now lost media. 2005 isn't a reboot; it's more of a relaunch

Paul O'Neal

I am a HUGE fan of Babylon 5, but I am going to vote for Doctor Who. I am also a huge fan of that as well, but I am mostly voting for DW because it's a different sort of show, and the seasons are short, so they get a break from sci-fi that is set in space in the future. I honestly think B5 can wait a while, probably until they are done with DS9 and possibly Voyager. But B5 is my #2 choice.

Jonathan Fly

Idea for future "tournaments". Don't just vote, but react to one episode of each show, like B5 Pilot vs Galactica S2E01. Both show reactions in the same video so the discussion can reference both. Then people watch that video and vote on which survives. In round two, it's the next episode of each winning sow so for example could be B5 SE1E02 vs For All Mankind SE1E02. It's fun for the voter because each round is content, and the voting is based on both the shows but also *your reaction* to them. Of course, people can still choose to vote for the show you clearly hate, but they won't be surprised by this reaction, it would be what they voted for. It takes a lot longer to pick a show in this format, but hey, it's content.

Target Audience

Not a bad idea for if we are ever not buried in movie requests and have some free time

PIG

The Wire. I love sci-fi but The Wire is the best show I've ever seen.

Doctor Pulaski

Ya'll can buy me for merely HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS!!!

KevinH

I'm rooting for The Wire because it's so different from any other show they've watched on the channel. I have no idea if they would love it or hate it, but it would be fun to find out.

Fire and Bloodwine

I don't think I can vote but I agree. Anything but Babylon 5.

MertzRocks

I'm opposite but only bc DW is SUCH a DEEP rabbit-hole even with fewer eps per season. Your reasoning holds water sure, and I'm down for either but I just think B5 is a better show overall. [I've also not seen much DW beyond season 7, BUTT! I also go WAY back with the classic old serials!] Beavis and Butthead are laughing at me again. 'He said, "deep," he said, "hole," he said, "butt"... twice... (laughter)'

Malamute

Doctor Who would be nice.

Captkirc

I binged the B5 box set 20+ years ago and loved it but haven’t seen it since. My two passions are Star Trek and modern TV so even though I would love for them to finish BSG, I’m hoping the Wire wins since it’s a rare top tier modern show that both guys haven’t seen. I’m thrilled Alex is watching Better Call Saul and loving it and I don’t want you guys to get too burnt out on science fiction either. One suggestion though if the Wire wins I’d seriously consider putting it out on YouTube. Much like you guys have carved out a niche on YouTube as the best Star Trek reactors I think there’s fertile ground to cover the Wire too as it’s not prominently reacted to.

Scott Woodward

I think Babylon Five is worth the watch but I’d say finish out Deep Space Nine first. My vote is Dr. Who with the caveat that the first season feels rougher around the edges than the ones that follow.

V G (Zay)

oh Fringe would be RIGHT up their alley! I wonder how Person of Interest would hit too 🤔

startrekiborg

I like "For All Mankind", but it's not over.

Paul

The final season is coming soon I believe.

Axis 77

Well, 95 episodes are missing... Out of a total 695 for Classic Who. And 60 of those have been animated. So, 35 isn't SO many...

Axis 77

I'm really not sure Doctor Who is the TA's Vibe... It'd get my vote regardless, but... I think BSG is more in-line with their aesthetic.

Honest Answers Only/ Jason Kerest

For my money, I really really really like Mad Men, BUT the first 3 seasons are excellent. Season 4 is good/great, 5 is good but eh, 6 is eh, 7 is split in 2 parts and I wanted something else entirely.

temsik28

Wire! That show goes crazy.

Ricky

OMG Babylon 5 is in the running! Is there a campaign fund we can donate to? Lol

MrDeadstu

Strange little mix, I am interested to see who wins.

penoyer79

serialized shows. you're favorite! The Wire would be my personal preference, but i doubt it has much of a chance with this crowd. This is a clear case of "know your audience" So, Babylon 5 it is. the interesting thing about babylon 5 is it was pretty much the first ever serialized Tv show outside of soap operas and the creator of the show wrote like 80% of the episodes by himself. absolute madman

penoyer79

yeah, there's so much good stuff in B5... but that show also has some flaws you have to be willing to accept.. and I'm not sure Josh and Alex will have any tolerance for that. especially the 1st season.

penoyer79

you dont watch b5, bsg, the wire or mad men? you mad man

Paul Walker

Doctor Who. There’s so much good in there, but I feel like season 1 has a lot of camp which won’t go down as well without knowing where the show came from. I really hope you don’t get thrown because it really swiftly improves over the next couple of seasons. S1 is important, but it’s definitely not the highlight. If you do go back to watch the earlier stuff later, every episode exists from Jon Pertwee’s tenure onwards, and that actor simply oozes charisma!

Paul Walker

Oh you’ve missed out not seeing Capaldi’s run. Some epic swings, with a few misses, but some of the greatest hits of all time.

Andrew Mortimer

I'm only a YouTube-level member but I said in a live chat once that if B5 became the next show on Patreon I'd upgrade. I stand by that, and now I see Doctor Who is an option I have to say I'll do the same if that wins!

Andrew Mortimer

I've wondered how Doctor Who would sit with them considering its nature as a child-friendly family show (especially the first half of series 1, you can see the swings as they found their balance), but after watching Josh's reaction to Gargoyles I think they could give it a fair chance. I'd be very interested to see their takes on the production side of things, plus I think they would appreciate the variety and creativity considering how they feel about things like Twilight Zone and monster-of-the-week stuff (X-Files, Smallville).

James

Ok, if we can vote for House, M.D., Dr. Who (2005) I would be happy, though I've heard good things of For All Mankind.

Matt Everkoul

Starting Doctor Who in 2005 vs 1963 is the equivalent of starting Star Trek with TNG and not TOS. Can you do it? Sure… but should you? The experience will be vastly different. Do you want your first encounter with Romulans to be “Balance of Terror” or “The Neutral Zone?” For Klingons, imagine meeting them in “Heart of Glory” and not “Errand of Mercy.” It will be a fun ride either way, but you only get one chance to experience first impressions 🤔 Also, not sure if Doctor Who should be eligible for a “one season” poll… in my mind, it’s the tent-pole franchise that Target Audience picks as a successor to Star Trek, worthy of the “Journey” title, all in airdate order, but only after completing Trek. Depending on how you count, Doctor Who has a shared universe of at least four spin-off shows, totaling 11 additional seasons outside the main series, which itself has 26 Classic & 15 Modern seasons. That’s a whopping 52 seasons spanning 63 years! That amount of content would be difficult to juggle, outside of a “let’s just watch it all in airdate order” commitment, where you’re not subject to Bridge Crew votes after each individual season.

Harry Broos

Well, I've seen a couple episodes of all these shows, except for BSG season 2. The most being Babylon, but not since it aired, I remember some characters but nothing else. I'll probably vote for Curb

James H

It was the 2000's episodes that got me interested in seeing the 1963 ones, so that can always happen again.

James H

I just wish Columbo were on the list.

Scott Bakulum

Damn it. Can't the Bridge Crew wait until after DS9 ends to pick Babylon 5? Josh and Alex are going to be in a permanent sour mood. They might even stop liking science fiction. Couldn't you wait until Enterprise or later to ruin this channel?

Matt Everkoul

Bridge Crew, I’m speaking to you from a time rift in the future, where you become wise enough to only suggest “one season wonders” instead of multi-season franchises. What an incredible list of 16 self-contained shows you’ve come up with to vote on, tournament bracket style: Action! (1999) 13 eps American Gothic (1995) 22 eps The Adventures of Brisco County Jr (1993) 27 eps Commander-in-Chief (2005) 18 eps Dark Skies (1996) 19 eps Kindred: The Embraced (1996) 8 eps Kings (2009) 13 eps Legend (1995) 12 eps The Middleman (2008) 12 eps Nowhere Man (1995) 25 eps The Prisoner (1967) 17 eps Threshold (2005) 13 eps Ultraviolet (1998) 6 eps Undeclared (2001) 16 eps Watchmen (2019) 9 eps Wonderfalls (2004) 13 eps Let the voting commence! [time skip] Ooh, looks like “The Prisoner” won. Amazing choice! 🎉

John M.

That is how it aired, though it is a delightful binge.

Troubled Tribble

I am rooting for Dr Who, but Im not sure how that would go over with TA (am curious to find out tho) But Trek and X-Files are 2 of my faves so im already happy. Maybe Babylon 5 as ive never seen it would be cool to watch along. same with the wire. And House is just an absolute banger can't wait to find out who wins! I will watch all of these show wtih TA!

Damien Drake

As much as I want to see a B5 reaction it's best to wait until after they are done with DS9. The lighter mood of Doctor Who would be a nice offset too X-Files.

Scott Chegg

I can't vote on these but fingers crossed for either Doctor Who or The Wire!

Alan Kingsley

The Wire, Babylon 5, and Mad Men, in that order

Soulhound

I know that through the star trek videos you've attracted the sci fi crowd but I'm hoping for curb your enthusiasm. you gotta have room for some laughs!

DoableSandman

The Wire by far. But if chosen just prepare yourself, you won't want to stop with 1 season. Also, Bridge Crew: How did Stargate not make this list?

Target Audience

We told them they can choose Stargate (since they can choose anything) but we are going to watch Stargate regardless eventually, so they went with other sci-fi choices

Fire and Bloodwine

Doctor Who I like a lot but it's very British and campy similar to Buffy.

Axis 77

Yeah... Seeing as the intention is to only do the first season of these shows, DW is a challenge to say the least. Also to concede to your point, their appreciation for the Production side of things could sway it in their favour... On that note, too bad 'Blake's 7' wasn't in consideration!

Pixels At Dawn

Mad Men is a great fit I think. A lot of people stories, great characters and just chef's kiss cinematography. And a break from sci-fi/fantasy!

Toban Allison

The number of Star Trek guest stars who appear on Mad Men is quite astounding and, because it takes place in the 60s, there's a small Star Trek subplot that figures into one character's arc later in the series. I won't spoil it, but the Mad Men's writers pick up the thinly veiled and sometimes heavy handed allegorical tone of TOS very accurately.

captveg

I know it won't win, but Mad Men is one of the greatest shows ever made. Consistently great through all its seasons, IMO.

Sunny

I’m torn between voting for quirky/comforting (Doctor Who) and more intellectual/gritty (The Wire). It almost feels disloyal to not vote for the Doctor. But…The Wire is some of the best TV out there.

Sunny

That basically is a spoiler 🙁 it’s your comment obviously, but I’d take that out. Don’t steal the surprise from them.

Andrew Mortimer

Lately I've been enjoying the B5 reactions by "funnylilgalreacts" -- she's about 2/3 through season 1 on YouTube. She has been analysing and theorising around the larger story and its been fascinating to see how she's been simultaneously eerily accurate and completely off with some speculations.

Randy Watson

From the lack of For All Mankind comment love I can tell alot of y'all have never seen the show. You guys would love it!

MrTickleTrunk

I'm crossing my fingers so hard for B5 lol

valen

I think we all know which series will win. I trust in the bridge crew members to do the right thing :)

Justin G

For all mankind!! I love that show as an alt-history take on our history/future!

Billy T. Riker

My guess... B5>BSG Dr. Who>FAM CYE>House Mad Men>The Wire

Dani

I haven’t seen any of these yet but For All mankind is next on my list

lc

Doctor Who

Scott in Scotland

I'm not a person of note. But what I would say is Babylon 5 has the potential amd number of seasons to replace trek on your main when you are done. I'd save it.

TheCoffeeNebula

Still better than some sci-fi out there.
