I love this episde

tyranusfan

At last! I've been waiting for this finale!

Coffee Talk

Just so y'all know, Chris Carter was the man sitting at the table questioning Scully in Skinner's office. Don't know if y'all clocked that... Look forward to the next season!!!!!

Target Audience

Imma be real…. I have no clue what CC looks like. Thanks for the patron take!

Poor Skinner, he did not deserve that punch.

I would say IMDB ratings for older stuff tend to reflect what the general opinion of the fanbase was circa early 00s, after it added message boards in 2001. Since this was shortly before everyone on the planet was on the internet, it leaned more toward the opinion of the nerdier hardcore fanbase. I think Threshold being one of the lowest rated Trek episodes is a good example of this nerdier bias.

It’s crazy the way this episode starts with the reveal that this conspiracy stuff is bigger than the FBI or US government but is international. Until this point the only hint at that was when Deep Throat said the nations agreed any country that found a living alien would be responsible for killing it. I love watching you guys put pieces together, just like we all did in the ‘90s. You know Alex is into it when he’s tracking the dates!

Keep in mind, Mulder did actually see an alien in episode "End Game", literally shape-shifting in front of him, and oozing toxic green blood which almost killed him. :D But that aside, you guys probably meant an alien that looks like the typical "gray" alien. This also raises an interesting point though. Because so far we have seen an alien who looks human (played by Brian Thompson), and we've also seen the "standard" alien type, call them grays or even "little green men", whichever you prefer. As far as the power of the cliffhanger goes, well, at the time of the original airing, people could not know definitively 100% if Mulder survived or not. There were actual speculations online whether he might be dead. So because you guys know (or at least strongly assume) that he survives, the cliffhanger does indeed appear a bit weak, but back in the day this was not the case. It was quite powerful. Regardless, thank you for a very enjoyable reaction video and episode review once again.

"Krycek, you killed my father!" "No, Mulder. *I* am your father." Okay, not really, but that would've been fun. I'm glad you guys didn't recognize Nicholas Lea's name in the credits. That was a great pop. Man, I love this episode.

Zenlike Creature

Didn't mentioned it last episode but Mulder references the Anasazi as being a tribe that vanished without trace whilst talking to Scully about other cannibal tribes on the planet. I think this is a fantastic episode, probably more-so as I (and many of us here) know how season three gets underway. It's going to be a long wait until you get back underway but vey much looking forward to it!

Collin Freeman

I KNEW he looked familiar! Chris got his SAG card for this episode? Good for him.

With the proper technique, a person can do plenty of damage with that weight behind the blow.

Great question, Coffee Talk (and comment about the cell service).

This is a great episode, back when this first aired, the end to at least those I knew, was not that did Mulder die? No, it was how does he get out? where did he go? For camera work, I wonder if you both have seen "Rope" (1948) I think you both would appreciate the camera work

Phenomenon (Doo - Dooo - Dah - Doo - Doo)

Very true, but when it comes to Mulder throwing hands at Skinner, I expected to see less of Rocky Balboa vs Apollo Creed and a lot more of Vedek Bareil vs Benjamin Sisko

Jon Miller

We finally learn more about the Anasazi after the name drop last week. This episode was such a big deal at the time. In the UK it came out on VHS a few weeks before being broadcast and was the number one selling tape for a while. This is pretty much the point where The X-Files really becomes huge.

I just noticed at 1.15 a ghost moves Alex's phone... spooky!

penoyer79

id have thought with as on it as you guys are with recurring co-stars you'd have recognized Nicholas Lea (Krycek) in the opening credits.

Kornflkgirl

You guys, I am so excited! This is the first episode I saw when I was 11 years old. I was already getting obsessed with aliens because of Unsolved Mysteries, and this just solidified it. What an excellent piece of television! I am so enjoying watching my favorite show through your eyes.

And down the rabbit hole we go...

Great part 1...buckle-up boys!
