I like this one and it is funny. But it gets so dark and disturbing. Eating hte principal. The show changes a lot as the seasons go one. Some story lines run for much longer. But there are still the creature or feature of he week episodes. But I think you will like some of the big twists and turns and characters if you stay with it. There are some seasons though, latter ones, that are not my favorite.

As people have said numerous times, the show fully hits its stride partway through season 2, but I'd say the ramp up in quality starts here. As you noted, they've figured out the pacing and the humor that works for this show, and that continues to improve.

I love Buffy, it's a truly great show ... starting with season 2. Season 1 is rough and while I enjoy it for nostalgic reasons it is very obvious it was shot with a low budget and they were still figuring things out. despite that I actually enjoy parts of this episode, I think Nicholas Brendon's performance as possessed Xander is pretty good, he transforms from goofy dork to creepy asshole by only adjusting his body language and facial expressions, even when he has no dialog he clearly is different. The possession story itself is pretty dumb though, evil zookeeper wanting to become a hyena is pretty out there even for this show.

I think the idea was that they located Xander by scent, so once they found him in the library they didn't want to detour out of their way to find a door. And Buffy did say they were getting stupider.

This shows the difference in the amount of Supernatural based shows now. Back when Buffy was on this was a pretty uncommon thing. Watching it originally I probably didn’t pick up the meaning of the paint either. This time first thought was some type of spell

Most of these seemingly one-off kind of episodes come back around at some point. The Scoobies never forget Xander's stint as a hyena. This show does continuity really well, especially after season one.

I'm here to support you through Season 1 - the Pleistocene of Buffy. However, good and great times are ahead if you survive it. Joss created a masterpiece of television. I would venture to say that 4 episodes of Buffy are the best "of its kind" in all of TV and one of those episodes could be considered TV's finest hour. But the journey is better than any one episode. The strange thing is that fans seem to disagree on the order of the seasons from best to worst. You'll see every permutation (other than S1 at the top...).

Hey guys.. I subbed to your channel specifically for Buffy. I like your humor and calling out little nitpicky things. It CAN be funny, as long as it doesn't become too much and then it can be annoying. But so far, funny! One thing that will be a common situation is when you absolutely think one thing is happening and then the show will subvert your expectations. They did it from the very first scene when you thought the guy was the vampire, but it was Darla instead, and I've noticed they've done it a few times already to you both. It'll keep you on your toes! I hope you continue to appreciate and enjoy the show, and that you continue into Season 2, one of my favorite seasons of TV.

I've noticed from other reactors that they tend to pick up on a lot of the cues better.. tv viewers in general are far more knowledgeable in looking for hints/clues/foreshadowing now than they were back then. Partly because of Buffy itself and the way it lays down groundwork sometimes seasons ahead for a particular plot twist.

They also ripped up Herbert's cage rather than just opening the door And the family in the car - just go through the windows.
