McCoy's official backstory has him divorced with a daughter named Joanna. Originally Joanna was going to be featured in a TOS episode, but after several changes the episode ended up being The Way to Eden, AKA the Hippie Musical Episode, without Joanna. And you will see characters becoming inanimate objects once you get to DS9.

M'Ress species is "Caitian" - cat-like people from the planet - wait for it - CAIT. No kidding. The Memory Alpha website lists their world way out in the Lynx star cluster. Yeah, that's an interesting detail as well. FYI, there was an episode intended for the Star Trek Enterprise series - season five - that would have shown their species using the same movie computer-tech that enabled Zoe Saldana to be a 12-ft. high blue woman in the movie "Avatar." But the ENT series was cancelled after season 4, so that story never saw the light of day - or a sound stage. The species is seen in LIVE ACTION in the 4th movie, "The Voyage Home," sitting on the Federation Council in San Francisco.
