Contest for a character design! (July/2023) (Patreon)

This month's prize is a strange dark kobold, with an equally strange pet. Perhaps she is a dweller of deep caverns under the sea, or just an everyday kobold with a particularly sassy attitude?

In order to participate, you must answer the prompt:Make up a short fun fact about her, based on what *you* think she would be like!It can be something silly, like her favorite food, or something more lore-oriented.Try to keep it within a couple sentences, though.

Rules:•  There is no correct answer! Just come up with something you think would fit, based on her looks.•  Only one entry per person•  My TOS contest prize section applies to this design

Submit your entry in the comments before the end of July! I'll pick the winner after that date. I am subjective, so bear with me :D SFW version is included in the prize.

I'll pick the winner based on how funny, fitting, or otherwise interesting I think it is!

So did you hear? She's secretly afraid of snakes. The one around her body is a toy but she's so good at puppetry that everyone thinks it's alive. That's why she doesn't let you come closer or you'll see that the eyes are sewn on.

She has an extensive knowledge of crystals, minerals, and other rare gems (but most of it is completely made up).

While it might look like a pet, that snake is actually part of the kobold. She was once an explorer who stumbled upon a mysterious bracelet, which subsequently came to life and bound itself to the poor kobold. Now the pair live as one, skulking in deep underwater caves or the occasional seaport in search of treasure

Onyx

She's a dream interpreter and local legend, who looks to the stars to help provide guidance. Keeps a seeing-eye pet eel close to her because its an excellent judge of character (and protector) - which also helps her navigate the physical world in a way she cannot. Living her best life despite her physical disability (blindness) (Edited my entry slightly for better readability/grammar!)

They like to dress their snake up in stupid outfits. Its hard to find outfits for a snake, so she makes them herself.

She’s a competitive diver, and holds the record for the 100m freestyle swim in her local fishing village

When the tribe needed a direction she went down to the water, and cried out to the heavens. In a moment that felt like eternity, a piece of star fell before her, and she ate it. Her body changed and she became a star seer, while also attuned to the water around her. Her scales hold the stars, the water is her mirror, and her fortunes a path. The Eel, her tiny priest/voice to the fishes in her waters.

Raised from hatch day to be a sacrifice to the god, the day had arrived. Left by the tribe and ready to be offered she stared in his eyes unflinching. He stared back infatuated by her lack of fear and the beauty of her scales. He reduced his size to stay closer to her and vowed his protection. Now she travels truly able to live for the first time with her guardian.

Nuwa Nightstone

Birthed by the stars themselves, she and her serpentine companion travel the cosmos, creating new planets and collapsing old stars. When coming upon old dead worlds the snake consumes them and her kobold companion uses potent space magics to create them again, bustling with new life.

Kaross Kaross

She is a druid and a wild magic sorcerer. her lover, a white scales kobold, had a sort of snake fetish, and one day, she kinda had enough of it. So she decided, for a giggle and a change, to polymorph him into a snake. However... Disaster struck, as her wild magic broke out that same instant, making the transformation eternal. So since that day... she has to take care of her good lil snake of a lover... and in their lone time... he is more than happy to pay her back.

Josh Frosh

She works in a joke shop and loves to make just silly pranks. The snake is out of plastic, but she also has a real snake (can talk) and she always confuses them with each other, what leads to funny situations. Even if the villager are annoyed by her pranks sometimes, they love her, because of her good kind.

Her snake slithers into the most awkward places so she has to spend all day coaxing him out using different food, eventually giving up and just starts giving the snake anything that looks remotely interesting to it.

Jarvis

Deep in the bayou there exist a mystic shaman. One not of conjure or voodoo, but one of the stars. Where the city lights don’t shine, sitting in a spiraling tree house. She observes the night sky telling fortune to those who come searching for her. Reading the astral signs for the omens that lay in them.

Eggy

She acts all smooth and sassy through her day. An unbreakable facade of dominant personality. In reality, she's super shy and self concious and at the end of the day, both she and the snake commiserate like she speaking to a living diary.

Catherine “phantom” Phoenix

Her serpent carries the knowledge and wisdom of the previous generations. When the princess comes across a trial that requires her to seek out wisdom the serpent will seemingly becomes “possessed” by an ancestor who had to go through a similar trial. It’s unknown if this is magic or the serpent being able to perfectly replicate the ancestors’ memories and personality due to exposure to them. For as long as it’s been in her family there are some who believe it’s been manipulating the royals since the kingdom’s birth most though dismiss this conspiracy theory.

hmmm i've thought of it but i'm a little scared of doing it, since i'm not super social and i wouldn't want to invite everyone in if i'm barely active there :D (although of course a big part of it would be that people who enjoy my art could talk to like-minded people, but still scary to me lol)

In addition to being a powerful spellcaster this kobold is an amazing fighter. This is due to her transforming her serpent into any weapon she seems fit. Spears, swords, staffs, or whips, there is no end to her selection or creativity. All she needs is one strike for the serpent's venom to neutralize her enemies.

Though she is very capable of fighting hand to hand, she much prefers to use defensive spells to block opponants' attacks and drain their mana.

Looking at her I would feel she has some kind of spirit link ability with her snake, kind of like dream walking where she can see through the eyes of her snake companion. I imagine art of them with her eyes whited and glowing whilst she's looking through the eyes of another. I feel like she would have quite a dry and dark sense of humor.

A Sentient Cookie

I feel like with the Snake, she views them as a distant legless Kobold relative and therefore takes them everywhere, considering them family as they travel around going on adventures. As for what she does to keep herself and the snake fed and on the road, is she does a performance/dance routine where she does a "Sun and Moon", "Day and Night", "Light and Dark" routine where she has the snake slither, coil around her tail, perform loops and flips, etc as she recites proverbs such as, "Light can be calming yet blistering, The night can be inviting, yet frightening", "would one prefer to be sunkissed or moonkissed?" essentially keeping an air of mystique that captivates travelers or townsfolk into paying in cash, food, etc. for her performances.

Rapter

Years of swimming in a crystal cavern have mutated parts of her skin to have a colorful shine like stars, causing the colorful contrasts on her body. Unlike most kobolds, her time around water has swayed her from normal kobold doings to researching her local sea snake population for her own devious plans; of course, she’s still kobold. She found the sea snakes were perfect for swiping goods from swimmers as she jumped from beach to beach, hiding out in sea caves along the way.
