Contest for a character design! (September/2023) (Patreon)

This month's prize is this wingless dragon scavenger & forager! She knows what fetches a good price, whether it's junk left behind by someone or an unsuspicious looking plant in the woods.

In order to participate, you must answer the prompt:Think of something she could scavenge or forage. It can be something that exists, or something completely made up. For example, a rare hallucinogenic lichen that only grows on the back of a nocturnal toad.

Rules:

•  Try to keep it within a couple sentences, or under 100 words.•  Whatever the item is, it should fit in her backpack.•  There is no correct answer! Just come up with something you think would fit.•  Only one entry per person•  My TOS contest prize section applies to this design

Der Burger

She's a scavenger for warm ice. A warm to the touch block of ice that has a cold aura and only specialized scavengers know how to collect it. These have to be replenished every few months for the tribes refrigerators. Every household has one.

Scavenger for shadowheart from baldurs gate 3 Jk, i think she would most likely scavenge for rare insects and small animals that she could sell at home!

Battle Fennec

I imagine someone like her would be climbing dangerous areas for hard to reach or acquire flora that has medicinal properties known to heal her kind's hardy skin; a fungus that grows a glowing large mushroom that when mortared with a pestle becomes a paste and with some additives can heal the dermal properties of her kin.

I imagine that since she is used to being in the forest that her bigger hauls arent plants. She can grab those any time. I think this special item was something that fell off of an air ship passing by. Maybe the airship was attacked by the winged dragons. I think it would be neat it its part of what lets the skyship fly, like a crystal that makes things weightless. She could eventually figure out how to use it to make a smaller ship for herself. She isnt an inventor but she could learn how to manipulate it over time.

In her island home, a fruit that puts coconuts to shame can be found high in the treetops. They hold water like cacti, sans the spikes, and the skin of the fruit is popular in cooking, skin care, and to help with treating burns and other skin injuries.

She collects myari melons. They’re found at the highest branches of the myari tree, so she uses her braided tail as a climbing tool to help her clamber up the trunk of the trees

Kaross Kaross

In a post apocalyptic world where spots of toxic air is the main danger and the land is populated by gentle giants on the back of which settlements have bloomed, this green dragoness (read, poison immune) scavenge for lost artefact, to trade with the settlements of less poison resilient persons, in exchange for food, drink and a few good night sleep on the safety that is one of those giant's back.

She collects barrel fruit. It's this rare fruit that grows deep in the jungles. The barrel fruit tree has a vertical root system like walking trees so when you shake it, the fruit fall then go rolling in every direction. Her clothing and basket are light so she can catch each of the rolling fruit before they disappear in the jungle lush. The fruit itself is quite sour but honey-sweet if roasted inside its tough, leathery rind.

Vandell

And here we see a specimen of the monitor dragons, wingless drakes of the great Vinegrove jungle.. in particular, this one appears to be a ranger, currently on the hunt to scavenge for insects, eggs and fish to bring back home and feed the tribe, as well as any other interesting trinkets they find in their long treks throughout the wider rainforest and beyond. Many, incorrectly, believe their species to be primitive, but these people actually possess a wide range of technical skills such as glassmaking, metallurgy, and more.

Heartflowers are small but extremely rare flowers that have heart-shaped petals which vary in shades of red and pink. Their leaves are a deep green, and they have a subtle but sweet fragrance. These flowers are known for their remarkable ability to emit a warm red glow that can mend broken hearts and bring peace to troubled minds. They can be found deep inside forests, typically near small ponds with waterfalls. Mysteriously, these plants can only grow and bloom in moonlight, which makes them even more difficult to find during the day.

KyuuTea

In the heart of the Whispering Forest, she discovers the Luminescent Shade Fern. This elusive plant shines a soft, moon-like glow only during twilight hours. When ground into powder, it's used in potions to grant night vision. Highly sought after by alchemists, it fetches a grand price.

She has a history of smithing growing up, and knows lots about different metal types and ore quality. She often scavenges for metals near large-scale mountains and volcanos ^^
