Damn Rask, just calling his bluff like that

LukeOnTheBrightSide

Oh shit, Rask spitting hot fire. Might be fighting words, but a wolf might respect the boldness.

Dhaka Yeena

Love this exchange, Rask is making some good points here

Furlop

Oh, Rask is getting sassy huh

Rizer Stake

That diss! Dayumb Rask lol

StargazingBerry

Damn Rask kinda bein an arsehole now- shiet- XD

Gale Tazzin

This is the first time the wolves have heard the bear is dead. I wonder if it'll have the opposite effect on their perception of safety than Rask intended

Chasey

Maybe the sass will get through to him. I dig it.

A Mills

I love sassy rask slay queen

LukeOnTheBrightSide

I wonder if a wolf will respect that, in a certain way. Taking no shit and talking business.

Amethysmus

I guess not enough folks know that their former packmate was killed by a hare to bring that up? Would make a great point here...

PyritKyrit

Pretty sure the only ones that know about that are Hemlock and the wolves. Swift and Red also probably still don't fully believe what the pups described

Looweezah

Hemlock is a rabbit, I think.

I'm kind of surprised no one has mentioned any of the parallels and symbolism in this page to past events, and just how important they are in this story. "you, your pups, and your mate will all die here and it'll be for nothing". In essence is pretty much exactly what Quanaq told Rask way back on page 13, and back then Rask had a very similar response to Red but in fewer words-- all life is, is about the hunt and the struggle, what else could it be for? Those things, "The hunt, the struggle, the rush of success" Is also exactly what Rask was sentimental about back on page 130 when he was having the panic attacks. He, more than anyone, is able to empathize with Red and fully understand where Red is coming from. Because Rask at one point struggled with those exact same thoughts and questions. Absolutely beautiful parallelism and use of dramatic irony, without being repetitive or unrealistic. This whole conversation also feels very reminiscent of Red's run-in with Seral, except this time the roles are reversed. Red is now the one arguing that he is no longer worth something, and that he's not really 'living' anymore. And Rask is trying to argue that Red should make the 'hard' choice and swim to shore.
