I really hope Swift actually hears them out, I wishing her and her family the best. However I feel like something big needs to or is going to happen that makes her fully consider Rask and Oren’s way of life.

And heeeere we go. At least Rask points out that she is clearly not there to hunt. I mean, she DID have multiple chances to kill the marten and did not. I believe she will request sanctuary for her family. I mean, Rask did say she could be safe there. Which means safety for her family potentially. If the Zenith finds them in the woods, they will be killed. I feel in exchange for keeping her family safe, she will let them know of the Zenith, or at least what she knows.

True, she didn’t seem terribly interested in it after the last time they spoke. Seemed more interested in the amount of meat to be gained. But a common enemy could change that.

Maybe, but what did she mean by “patience” after she let Rask go? Why catch one marten when you can bait out a feast with a “talk”. Plus I’m not very confident with how the author described Swift as being very traditional and can be pretty selfish.

Yes but if she attacks them, she puts her entire family at risk. Her mate and pups cannot defend themselves against the Zenith AND Stone Hollow. She killed one of the Zenith so her and her family are dead if found by them. No chance she can get her family across the Mountain Pass because of big cats. She has to keep her family safe somehow.

I don't think she's to the point of asking for help, not yet. She still things this is insane. I think it will eventually go that way, but right now I don't think she's desperate enough to ask for sanctuary yet.

ooh, this highlights a key distinction between Rask and the rest of the Hollow, even Egg: they all joined because it made them safer. but he has gambled his life every day, journeying there and staying among an armed adversary that frequently debates executing (or at least mutilating) him. so he's practically cheerful at this negotiation tactic and is unfazed by the danger, while Oren hasn't had to directly fight in a long time and is much warier of a tête-à-tête with an apex predator
