SWIFT, NO! RASK, YES! GRAB THE SPEAR! STOP HER! It sucks that Swift is putting her family in danger like this, but Rask has to stop her, wound her if need be. Killing her though... I have no idea what that means for Red and the pups... Also, where is Hemlock?????

Allyson

GOOD, Rask! Get in there and fight! His heart was absolutely in the right place, since he wanted to talk this out instead of resorting to violence immediately. Alas, now he needs to get his tail in there and fight for what he believes in. Does it make me a bad person that I kind of hope Swift seriously pays for her actions here? Heck, she’s going all out on a porcupine and getting some lovely tongue piercings for it. Play foolish games, win foolish prizes, you know what I mean?

SJ

Swift I wish you’d chosen differently, I was rooting for you to change for the better but now I’m rooting for you to be stopped by any means necessary 🥀

Flann Moriath

Yes, Rask!! Fight back!! Man, Swift looks like she’s already in rough shape, with quills in her mouth and nose. She’s very determined - but I think she’s too stubborn to see a different way to live.

Berto

As smart as we were led to believe she was, Swift biting into a porcupine doesn't exactly look like the best of moves... Also please Rask, do something!! Wolves, wolves never change or smt

kreativeart93

Please don't hurt porcupine lady

ProwlingPaws

Hope you're feeling better! Get her Rask! Can't really blame either side to how they're behaving and I love how we've been seeing everything from everyone's viewpoint. From Swift's perspective viewing them as prey, she's not doing anything wrong and just getting food for her and her family. Rask, Oren, and all of them also have a right to defend themselves from a legitimate threating predator who's trying to kill the whole group. Rask had a really good idea in trying to find common ground, but he forgets not all other predators are going to have that way of thinking. I don't comment often enough, but I've really been loving this story since the beginning. Looking forward to next week's page! 💖

North

Oof. Swift's going to end up another trophy at this rate.

Tori Sol

Atta boy, Rask! Get in there! I really hope Sibyl makes it out of this. She's one of my favorites. And wow, Swift. You're...incredibly stupid. A wolf is always learning? What exactly are you hoping to achieve by getting a mouth full of porcupine quills? It's interesting. I really thought that Swift was going to be more openminded, but the comic has shown that she's actually just as stubborn as her father. She left the pack because her family was in danger, but before that, she was so determined to keep the territory, two of her packmates left permanently. Even when Rask showed goodwill repeatedly by sparing her and bringing her family food on TWO occasions, she still stabbed him in the back. And Red was shown to be completely on board with that, helping Swift pin Rask immediately after getting fish. If anything, I think things would have gone better if it had been Ramble to meet the Hollow residents. Already in his limited time with the zenith pack, he has started showing empathy for the buffalo. I wonder what will happen to the family after this. Red can't hunt for them, and the pups are vulnerable. If Hemlock catches wind of this, she might decide to finish what she started.

Julian Seguin

This definitely feels like we're reaching a solid endpoint for the chapter. If it doesn't end with Rask killing her, I expect Swift will be maimed, and in a similar position to her mate. In that case, maybe then she be forced to listen. Having spent most of her life fending for herself, the idea of seeking aid is a foreign concept to her. It's even worse, considering another pack of wolves offered her salvation for a price that she could not accept. And to seek safety with the very prey she hunts? That goes so far against her nature, it's no wonder she can't accept it! The only way to bring her to the fold is to break her, body and spirit. --Oren really failed here. He said they'd be ready for when she came back. And he had a lot of time to prepare.

Marcwolf

Swift is going to be crippled like Red.

Bog-rez

Swift is getting a mouth full of quills... I think she may be pretty desperate, despite her attitude. It's a theory, but I think the one who may actually get through to Swift is Hemlock. And please, let Sibyl be okay!

Fluffy

Swift = Dead, if not from whatever Rask does, then from the quills. Those shits get infected SO easily.

North

Up until she got a mouthful of quills, I was thinking her situation wasn't TOO bad. She's got a mate who'd be willing to pull those quills out (assuming she gets out of this alive). But quills in the roof of the mouth? Very bad news.

Grey

Whoa! I wonder if this is the first time Swift has encountered a porcupine because wow is that some recklessness! Or perhaps it’s desperation because she’s starving. We have literally not seen her eat this entire comic, iirc! I’m glad to see Rask ready to fight when he has to. I’m also extremely curious where our characters will go from here! I still think it’s pretty obvious Swift and co will join the hollow, but this has thrown me for one hell of a loop. I wonder if Rask will aid her recovery? Otherwise those pups and Red are totally dead without her to provide. Edit: We DID see her eat in Run, taking place right at the beginning of the comic… that bison is really pulling her through if it was her last meal!

Grey

I’m wondering if Ramble will be an important bridge, actually!

Dario Mouse

Rask is finally gonna drop the gloves and fight for his new team.. this ought to be interesting. Worried he's gonna be too late for Sibyl. I'd have hoped the porcupine face check would have broke Swift and brought her back to earth.

treefiddy

I'm a tad bit confused on the chronological order of these panels. On the second panel we see Swift diving for Sibyl, which makes sense. But on panel 4 it looks like she's just biting down for the first time. That begs the question though, where did the quills on her tongue and the other side of her snoot come from? (Sibyl only hit the right side of her face with her tail) And the trail of blood coming from her teeth make it seem like she's already bitten Sibyl and is recoiling from getting a mouth full of quills. Then on the last panel we see her biting down hard into Sibyl, earning more quills in her nose. So is that the second and more successful attempt at a bite, with the first being some time between panel 2 and 4?

Dinah

Hope you're feeling better Teagan! I hope Sybil is okay in the end, I really enjoy her character. Get mad Rask!

Allyson

Oooof you nailed it!

Allyson

That’s a good point—Oren DID have time to prepare. I wonder when the last time was that they really had to use those spears? They haven’t realized that a predator can work around them, that’s for sure.

Aratare

It's gotta be hard for a starving wolf with a starving family to think clearly when her dinner is babbling crazy at her. Hunger also explains why she'd be so desperate to risk grievous injury and infection tackling a porcupine.

KiraKurotsuchi

Not exactly on the best learning curve, is she, lol.

JeffMakesGames

It seems Swift might have to end up maimed, like her mate, in order to listen. Only when she is unable to care for her family, will she be forced to seek help. Still no signs of Hemlock. I wonder if she would be willing to speak to Red and the pups though after Swift left for the meeting. Red might not have fully listened to Rask but SEEING is more believing. Actually seeing the rabbit that saved the pups and the sharp weapon she holds, Red might realize the unknown danger Swift just went into, especially if he knows she was going to attack, and must stop her before she makes a fatal mistake. It is so hard to tell what direction Teagan is taking with all this. It's like anything can happen and all we can do is make guesses with what we see and know. :)

treefiddy

Swift and Ramble are definitely polar opposites. Swift is stubborn to a fault, to the point where she is going to get herself killed absolutely unnecessarily and in the most stupid way possible. While Ramble is gullible to a fault, where all it took for him to go full team Zenith was a pat on the shoulder and a couple nice words.

Screw the Shadow Walker

Swift was one of my favorite characters from the beginning, but this decision of hers just makes no sense to me, and I don't know how to feel about it. I had huge hopes with Red, especially since wits were his only recourse since he's maimed, but he disappointed me there as well. Rask froze for the second time at a crucial moment, shows he haven't learned much either since the forest where his uncle died.

Star Drake

swift is already injured, has a disabled made and pups to care for, yet still decides to pick a fight with a porcupine. yeah i see why her parents didn't call her clever. come on rask, don't let sibyl be the next sprig >.<

Gale Tazzin

I have low-key wanted Rask to kill Swift since the midpoint of volume 2 and now I want it pretty high-key and it might actually happen

Gale Tazzin

this story hasn't had much of characters being forced to listen - they usually die before they can learn (see: Quanaq, Craic, Sprig, Yarrow, Keen, Seral) i don't think Swift will be forced to listen. instead, Red will, if he wants to feed his pups

Jean

Wow. I wonder if this melee will finally make Swift "see the light", but I imagine it will take something dire for that to happen, like her getting seriously injured or placed on death's doorstep by Rask. One thing's for sure: he has to stop her.

Jean

Not only quills, but quills IN the mouth. Infections fester in open orifices. She is going to need some SERIOUS antibiotics to survive.

Fluffy

ye. Like, even if they get removed and her mate manages to find enough food for her to not just waste away (good luck, those sores will hurt like hell and make it nigh impossible to eat anything more solid than a smoothie) the infection is still gonna be a killer.

Julian Seguin

Very true. Of course, what happened with Yarrow is the core reason for Rask’s actions.

likeshine

I am worried for Sibyl...

treefiddy

In Red's defense, his interaction with Rask was probably the first time he's ever actually conversed with prey. I'd be extremely interested to know how he would have actually responded to Rask had Swift not barged in. We only got a single panel before he heard Swift coming, and i'd imagine Rask was very close to actually getting through to him.

Gale Tazzin

the way she tackled Sibyl, it's probably the unprotected belly, which is how porcupines get hunted by fishers

Gale Tazzin

she's an alpha wolf, and the only capable hunter for her family. she fights her way through everything and she's consistently won, which is why they're all still alive. she was never going to accept help while she still thought she could handle the situation herself, because accepting help would be an admission that she wasn't strong enough to save them. I feel like trying to fight the entire hollow singlehandedly is truer to her character than agreeing to join them

Microgrampup

In one of her front paws too, I think she grabbed quills in panel 2.

JeffMakesGames

So right now, this is my thinking: No one dies. Swift killing anyone, will doom her family. The hollow would not help her or her family escape the Zenith, and they WILL kill her family if they find them. During this meeting, Hemlock finally makes an appearance. She approaches Red and the pups. The pups identify their rescuer. Red sees Hemlock sporting Seral's tail, then sees the sharp weapon she wields. Red probably didn't believe Rask when he told him. Seeing is believing. Realizing that the Marten was telling truth, he realizes Swift attacking them will get her killed and urges Hemlock to stop her. Maybe take one of the pups with instructions to stop their mother from making a terrible mistake. Alas, she would be too late, but showing up and Swift seeing a rabbit holding one of her pups, she would stand down.

Romilly

The difference in Rask's actions between watching Swift lunge for Oren and watching her go for Sibyl is really tickling me (but I hope Sibyl makes it - I really like her character) I don't know if I'm reading the characters different but I can only see a version of this where Hemlock feels massively validated for her hatred of predators and comes back to attempt to finish off Swift and Red. She didn't kill the pups before but that works with her backstory about her own family - and helpless kids are a whole different thing to an adult wolf. Even if Hemlock was open to it, so far we've always expected Red to be super amenable to negotiating with Rask and it has only gone badly. I'm really interested to see how this all plays out!

Jean

Rask didn't freeze here. Swift suddenly attacked when he was trying to reason with her. There was nothing he could have done to stop her.

Tori Sol

To be fair, we're seeing this happen page by page. In-universe, this is all going down over the course of a few seconds. Rask was likely stunned initially, especially since Swift literally grabbed his face and shoved him away.

Screw the Shadow Walker

I disagree. He saw her getting more aggressive, changing stance, stalking like a predator, when she lunged he just stood by with mouth wide agape

Dalamin Aubis

This is gonna look really bad on Rask's six month performance review.

Jean

I wouldn't so much consider that "freezing" as in processing the shock of what is happening. If he froze, he wouldn't be taking action now.

Saran Kit

This page is really beautiful. My heart pounding.
