This episode was a prime example of Damon being a dick for the sake of being a dick, and it's unbearable. There was literally no reason for him to pick a fight with Mason. I honestly think he was just still in his cry baby feelings about Elena and had to take the anger out on someone. As if yall didn't have enough problems with Kathrine and the council, how does picking a fight with a new element they're unfamiliar with benefit them????

Katherine didn't compel Damon or Stefan to love her. She compelled them not be afraid of her, which allowed their genuine love to develop in the way they perceived it. I think to also keep their relationship a secret. Damon's feelings stemmed from his belief that he was the only one, and he loved her for the person he thought she was, which was based on her manipulations and compulsions, not a specific compulsion to love her.

Y’all got the compulsion situation with Katherine a little confused. Katherine never compelled Stefan to fall in love with her, but she did compel him to stay in love with her by compelling away his fear (“we will go on exactly as we have”). She also compelled him to drink her blood so that when he died, he’d turn into a vampire. With Damon, she never compelled his love, nor did she compel away his fear. She also didn’t have to compel him to drink her blood, he drank from her willingly, which is why he was surprised when Stefan was in transition to be a vampire. She never compelled him in the way she did Stefan.

Just want to clarify, Damon was NOT compelled to love her either. They were both just compelled for other things around the edges, like how Caroline compelled Matt to forget she bit him in the woods. Or how Katherine compelled Stefan to drink her blood. Or how she compelled Damon to leave the room after she just had the moment with Stefan She didn’t compel either of them to actually fall in love with her.

I think it’s also important to remember that when Damon and Stefan fell in love with Katherine it was while she was presenting as human and fully manipulating them. They fell in love with a version of Katherine that wasn’t real, and unfortunately Damon held onto that facade for over 100 years. Even though he wasn’t compelled like Stefan, he was still manipulated.

No brother was *more* manipulated than the other. She compelled Damon to leave her alone that night but not Stefan. She compelled Stefan to drink her blood but not Damon. She used them BOTH like toys (even though she did end up developing genuine feelings for Stefan). I just don't want you to get confused. Stefan was valid in everything he said about her manipulation. Damon was not *more* manipulated than him. And most importantly: she never compelled either of them to love her.

Also one last thing: just like Damon, Katherine is a complex character, so make sure to really pay attention to everything she says or doesn't say. No one is one dimensional on here. Don't write her off too early 😉 Lots more to learn!

I’m 99.98% sure that is the only time she compelled Damon. Damon wasn’t scared of her vamp side so she didn’t need to compel him to accept her. Stefan was scared and needed compelling.

Most likely Katherine threatened Caroline to not tell anyone else what’s shes making her do or she’ll kill someone close to her like Elena , her mom , Matt etc. So she can’t tell Stefan.

Damon went after Katherine (knowing she was messing w/ Stefan) willingly! He also fell in love with her willingly and stayed in love with her despite knowing she’s a vampire AND messing with his brother. He literally drank her blood willingly, repeatedly…

Who Katherine was goes against everything that Damon admire and respect in a partner but Damon was in a very vulnerable place the first time he met her, he had just come back from the war that he didn’t even believe in but he had to go just to please his father, he had just lost his innocence in the war and he was filled with guilty conscience and self hatred with no one to console him and also because of the fact that he was mistreated by his father( it was obvious that Damon was the scapegoat of the family) and because of his never-met needs for affection, it was so easy for Damon to fall into the trap of a narcissistic/ dark empath disorder like Katherine, that’s exactly who they prey on. Damon was manipulated and severely abused in this relationship but he was not aware of it back then because he was just a naive young man but in the present time with all the experiences and wisdom he has gained over the years, after everything was revealed one after another, first the fact that Katherine was never in the tomb and also after she told him to his face that she never loved him, it was like all the light in the house got turned on and Damon was able to look at Katherine as who she really was for the first time and how he’s been manipulated by her this entire time, this is when he realised Katherine is not a type of person that he would normally fall in love with, she literally possesses all the characteristic traits that Damon don’t want in a partner, this is how Damon started to fall out of love with Katherine and give his heart the permission to give itself completely to Elena and stop denying that love. Damon was slowly falling in love with Elena in S1 but he was denying it to himself first because he was trying to stay loyal to Katherine and second Falling in love with her meant he had to let his humanity in with all of the pain and suffering that comes with it after having it off for such a long time and that was a terrifying thought for him so he kept denying it as much as possible by holding on to his love for Katherine but as soon as he lost all his respect for Katherine and push her out of his heart, Elena took over all the free space of his heart and made it impossible for him to deny it no more.

The first time Stefan saw Elena, he saw a HUMAN who looked like Katherine so he saw a perfect opportunity to rewrite his love story again but this time he was gonna control every aspect of the relationship so it goes exactly where he wanted and did not end in a heartbreak like the first time. That’s why every time Stefan felt insecure in the relationship and feels like he’s losing the control of things, he resorted to use manipulation to escape the accusations and get the hang of things again. Stefan wanted Elena to be the “angel” he thought Katherine was before he learned about her vampirism. Stefan as a golden child seeks perfection in himself and his partner so he put Elena in this little box of just an innocent girl who can do no wrong and he is blinded to Elena’s flaws and her dark side. Also because Stefan hates his vampire nature, he is using his relationship with Elena as an escape to pretend to be human as much as possible and runs way from part of him that he hates about himself and he is trying his best to hide those parts from Elena and everyone else around him. “When I’m with her I completely forget WHAT I am” he was referring to his vampirism “I don’t want you see me like this, I don’t want you to know this side of me still exists” “She knows now, I don’t want her to find out now everything is ruined” “Do you pretend to be human when you’re with her? Is that the appeal?” Damon is a complete different story. Damon did not plan on falling in love with Elena, in fact the last thing he wanted was to fall in love with a human who was gonna remind him of his humanity and how much he still yearns for it. Elena’s love completely caught him off guard and he was not prepared for it. Damon fell in love with Elena’s soul and all of her being with flaws and all because Elena was able to touch the deepest part of his soul that no one has ever reached to. She was The only person who has ever showed him compassion and validated his pain in his entire existence. The only person who has ever dared to go deeper and see right through the mask he’s wearing, she was able to see The facade he was wearing of someone who doesn’t care as a way to protect his bleeding heart from further hurt which was the result of actually caring too much and this is how Elena brought back part of his soul back to the surface that even Damon forgot that it existed so regardless of her look, Damon was gonna fall in love with her just for those reasons. No one has ever done this for Damon.

Damon has MAJOR trust issues, so I think it's pretty obvious he wasn't gonna welcome Mason with open arms. Sometimes he acts impulsively because of that, but his skepticism proves to be of help most if not all the time. He was right in not trusting him, one way or the other

I feel like you guys are doing at Stefan for the wrong reasons, yes he had feelings for Katherine but once she was out of his life he saw her for what she was, love blinded him and maybe he still has some feelings towards her but he knows what she is, and him falling in love with elena has nothing to do with Katherine they may look the same but he fell in love with elena bc she was soo different to Katherine. Also why we feeling bad for Damon he knew what Katherine was and he still choose to love her for 140 years. Applying one logic to one brother but a different to the other is crazy.

Katherine compelled both brothers, but for completely different reasons. Stefan’s feelings for her were real. He told her he loved her without any compulsion, but at the time, he didn’t know she was a vampire. His "confession" surprised Katherine because it felt good to be loved for being "herself" even though he didn't know the whole truth yet. After Stefan found out she was a vampire, he got scared and that's when she had to compel him not to be afraid of her. But with Damon was the opposite because after finding out that Katherine was a vampire, it didn't scare him off and he actually leaned into it and still loved her. He willingly drank her blood and accepted her for who she was and because of that Katherine never worried about losing him. She basically had him wrapped around her finger and treated him more like a game or a distraction. Stefan on the other hand she didn't want to lose which is why she used compulsion to keep him close and to protect the version of love she wanted from him. In the end, it all came down to what each of them wanted. Katherine wanted Stefan. Damon wanted Katherine. And Stefan wanted the version of Katherine he thought he knew until he realized she wasn’t that person. And that's why he fell out of love with her, because he realized he was being used and manipulated by her after the fact of finding out she's a vampire for her own selfish gain. And that's why Damon is so hurt, because he actually accepted her as a vampire and did everything she wanted without compulsion and she still rejected him for Stefan.

The actress' name is Nina Dobrev and she did SUCH a good job playing both Elena and Katherine. They're completely opposite characters and even the look, yeah they dressed Katherine different and made her hair curly to change it up but it's more so the tone in her voice and the facial expressions. Nina came out recently and said that she was paid less than the actors for Damon and Stefan, and how she didn't find it fair which it isn't because the girl was literally playing two characters and doing double the work. But yeah, Nina is awesome. Before this she had a role on a Canadian TV show called Degrassi which Drake was also on.

I mean Elena physically looking like Katherine is what made Stefan initially be like what's this, what's going on? But like he said, he only started falling in love with her after watching her and learning about who she is as a person and her genuinity....which is the complete opposite of katherine. He didnt fall for elena because he was still in love with katherine..

stefan saw a girl that looked exactly like katherine and wanted to find out if that was actually her. it’s reasonable that he would want to investigate that since katherine is not only his ex who’s presumably dead but a vampire that was essentially responsible for turning him. he only “stalked” elena to make sure that’s not katherine and he only approached her romantically when he realized she is nothing like katherine (or so he thought). damon only likes elena because she looks like katherine and stefan likes elena in spite that… and that’s why stelena>>>>>>>>>>>>>> delena also katherine didn’t have to compel damon to love her he was willingly following her around like a puppy even when she was hunting humans. we see her occasionally compelling him to go away when he’s being annoying but outside of that he was a willing participant. initially she didn’t have to compel stefan and he fell in love with the person he thought she was but once he saw her true form he was repulsed and wanted nothing to do with her which is why she had to compel him to not be scared of her and kept him on a leash. damon being more manipulated than stefan doesn’t make sense bc he wasn’t manipulated AT ALL. lol being told to go away when he’s sneaking into her room and not wanting to leave her alone doesn’t make him a victim he was very aware of what she was doing the entirety of their relationship. it’s even worse bc he knew what she was doing to his little brother and didn’t do anything about it. in fact he was jealous of him??
