I never thought I would have to type this but y’all . ALICENT LIED FIRST?? she was messing WITH RHAENYRA DADDY behind her back? If I was rhaenyra I wouldn’t trust her either. Also rhaenyra told alicent she didn’t have sex with daemon. She didn’t. She did with Criston cole though. BIG MISTAKE YES. Robb stark level. But it’s only a mistake because she’s a woman though. Which is exactly my problem with alicent. She’s a misogynistic woman. How are you mad she had sex and her father AINT trip ? No one at court care’s except alicent. Alicent is purely political(manipulated to be so by Otto) . alicent didn’t want to be queen and did it because it’s her duty for her father. Rhaenyra wants to be the heir 100% but she’s a woman. So she’s damned either way. Mair at the end described them perfectly to me.

I feel like this episode is the first time we get to see Rhaenyra truly embrace her role and the burden on her shoulders as heir: rejecting Ser Criston, not falling for Daemon's manipulation attempts, marrying Laenor even though it's not what either of them want.

Alicent wasn't political up until this very episode. Finding out that her father was sent away based on a lie to protect Rhaenyra made her realise that everything her father said to her was right and that when push comes to shove, Viserys and Rhaenyra will protect themselves before one of her own. The costuming on this show is excellent because her entire story was told through her dresses: blue for innocence before she married Viserys, red after the marriage to show her trying to fit in with the Targaryens, and now wearing green as a statement that she's putting her own family and children first.

I don't even think Rhaenyra realised how much she wanted to be Queen right until she was offered another path by Criston, so I don't blame her for rejecting him. On Criston's side, he basically came from nothing and rose to the Kingsguard on merit. He broke his oath and risked his own life because he loved Rhaenyra. It must’ve been a slap in the face to realise she didn’t feel the same way about him, especially since she pursued him. Anyone would feel a little used, even though I don’t believe that was her intention. I don't think either of them were wrong for how they reacted in that situation.

I have to say, it's very refreshing to see reactors who don't immediately turn on Alicent for going against Rhaenyra and actually try to see her side of things 😅

Not sure if you caught it because you were talking through the scene, but when Alicent walked in with the green dress, the two guys that were watching (Harwin and Larys) mentioned that the Hightowers flame is green when they call their banners for war. This is the first time we see Alicent wearing her house colors, represented by that green dress, since she married Viserys.

The characters are much older and many have been recast, except Ser Criston, who’s found the fountain of youth or something because he looks exactly the same.

its weird coz alicent was able to lie, marry her best friends dad and become her step mum but rhaenrya needs to tell alicent about her sex life ??? even if she lied, that's coz it's not her business and clearly rhaenrya and her relationship isn't the same as it used to be so ofc she wasn't gonna tell her the truth. and it's not about duty or responsibilities coz if she was a man no one would be doing all this coz she slept with someone.

ser criston was fully capable of not sleeping with rhaenyra, if his oath to the kingsgard was as important as he made it out to be he would never have slept with her to begin with, whether she came on to him or not. he didn’t even really try decline her, but wants to blame her after she declined his marriage proposal to him. yes she was wrong for leading him on, but he threw away his own responsibilities without even a thought really.

the fact that otto put in alicents head that rhaenyra would kill her own brothers and sisters just to be queen of the iron thrown is sickening. This is what made Alicent take rhaenyras lie about her “innocence” to the grain and feel like she couldn’t therefore trust her with her children’s safety just to remain heir to the iron throne, changing alicents whole attitude and come to be against rhaenyra. At the end of the day sleeping with someone in secret is a silly thing to use against rhaenyra just to debunk her claim and right as heir. Otto and Alicent are betraying the king by questioning rhaenyras position and as otto always has, granted rhaenyra shouldn’t give them more reasons to put against her claim, but she is again only 17 she’s gonna make mistakes but she still owns her responsibility strongly as she’s always done and wanted.
