Just hold me and tell me everything is going to be OK David

Paul

I think we're getting ahead of ourselves with a clear out. Clement's clearly been taken in by the so-called leadership group. Another manager fooled! However, it isn't just the usual suspects who are letting the club down. It's nearly the whole team. That's happened on his watch. Worrying times.

Craig Young

I just cannot believe how slow and ponderous we have looked in our last 2 games.... absolutely frightening the drop off in performance.

Stewart Robertson

I must have been watching a different game to Big Phil

Colin Gardner

Managers at it if he believes that. Is this a "Not throwing the players under the bus" interview?

Neil

Clement seems to be walking a tightrope - if the players egos are that fragile and/or there are problems in the dressing room he probably thinks tearing into them publicly will *guarantee* they down tools for the rest of the season. I hope he figures out how to sort this before Sunday, but I'm not confident. I'd also put good money on Tav and Goldson being here next season because we haven't the money for a full clear out, and the striker, midfield and GK situation will be more dire (assuming we're selling Butland)

Gregg

Will be sticking to the historical/ fun content for the foreseeable - catch you on the cro-pod. Can you pm me if we sign some swazzy bosman?

William Ross

I want to see how a league title campaign is fought so badly

GlasgowBear

The manager defending the players is laudable. However, they can only have an impact if you believe that the players are naive themselves about how badly they played. The players are also not stupid, they know they’ve not played well. It’s not as if they’re going to be sitting going “oh maybe we did actually play well lads.” So it’s all just a bit futile. They won’t repay him. They’ll let him down like they’ve done the previous managers.

Charles McIntyre

I’m not sure the Manager protected the players and took the “blame”. To do that he would have needed to admit what a pathetic performance that was and let’s face it he most certainly didn’t.

Vanb bryceter

Clement has to try and keep the players playing.Until we are out of everything his hands are tied. We just need to wait and see what he can get from the remaining games. Its clear after the last few weeks that major surgery is required. How that happens and how extensive/quickly who knows. It looks increasingly likely we are in for yet more pain im afraid to say.

Glen Kane

This mob got the last two managers sacked when they downed tools. Clement needs to clear the decks this summer or he'll be gone by October.

Jim McCutcheon

100 % spot on David, we are on the downward slide plane to see we don't have the mental steel when the chips are down seen it before and it's obviously still the case 😐, you feel the end of the season is stumbling too a real bad disastrous conclusion 🤦‍♂️

james whyte

For seasons now too many of our squad love the idea of playing at Rangers but simply cant cope when needed to be one.

KennyY

Gutted today can’t lie. Haven’t been able to listen to anything Rangers related today other than this. We were very slightly better defensively yesterday eventually although we could have been 1 down inside the first minute. There was a medical guy at Girvan fc who had a gammy leg and used to do a slow motion run onto the field to attend to an injured player. Goldson reminded me of him last night. Surely his time is now up. We were just as bad in every other department as we were on Sunday in my opinion and that’s that all the good work in the last few months undone within the space of a week. I’m going to check out of all Rangers related stuff now until Sunday when inevitably we will be given another kick square in the nuts. Please Lord that Lundstram hasn’t already signed a new deal. Cheers for this today David.

David Hanlon

I am sorry but the manager is doing himself no favours. Does he not think that the fans can see a team with no fight, interest, will to be everything on the line. Sorry but we don't have any true leaders in the team. When the going gets tough we wilt. Honestly if we had spent money and brought in a striker we would a least have a chance of winning the league. Now the league is over and the Champions league money is going to them.

Robert Reid

Just need to look at Clement's face during the game to know that he's raging with the performance and was only trying to protect the players in his interview.

Scott Corral

His comments after the game are obviously with Sunday’s game in mind. Will it be justified come Sunday teatime? Sadly I don’t think so

Colin McL.

His comments made him look weak - just come out with a few neutral cliches and move on. Instead he’s created another talking point and patronised the support. So much for the ‘synergy’. Thanks, gaffer.

ali t

Its a huge summer Clement was raging so expect him to clear out. If not it will cost his job. SF looks unwinnable as do the last 5 games in this form and we have nothing I can see that will turn it around

Stuart McWilliams

Watching last night it struck me that for all the attention on a striker and a defender, what this squad really needs is to find a replacement for Steven Davis. Since his injury we haven't had anyone setting the tempo or dragging us up the pitch.

Heart and Hand

We could have brought in Haaland and it wouldn’t have done much good because the rest of them would still have lost their nerve when the finishing line came into sight.

Graham Jones

Of course he’s going to defend his players publicly, because that’s his job at the moment. While the L;eagle is still contended he has to keep working on this group to bring the confidence back. When you can’t score in a game like that it’s clearly confidence being in short supply, and I was seeing signs of self-f doubt last month. It’s the wrong time to hit a run like this and he needs to defend them to make them believe again. That’s not naive it’s the job in front of him. Our problem is we have a hard time believing we can trust this group. That’s why we scratch our heads when our manager says these things. He has to think of a summer rebuild, which will require hanging on to the bulk of these players, because we can’t go through another mass recruitment like last summer. We need to reach a point where it’s two or three in and two or three out each summer.

David Hanlon

Fair enough but how many chances has dessers missed in games. Ross county or Motherwell where a goalscorer would have changed zero points into 3 or at least 1.

Hugh Campbell

Campbell James: Yep, poor show again. So much not happening. Tell me this, is it just me that notices that Tav won't play the ball to McCausland, even when it's the pass on he looks the other way ? He has done since the boy came into the first team. :-((

Alan Weir

I would agree with what you say about fear, David. However, there are some players - Silva and Cantwell come to mind - who seem to have highly inflated opinions of their own abilities. Both looked surprised and insulted to be hooked last night, despite offering pretty much nothing. A couple of charlatans.

Neil Wilson

Best wishes in regards to the family situation. Manager comments wise, judge him by his actions. He'll have a good idea of what can be kept and what needs moved on in the summer.

Derek Robertson

if it was the wrong move then I'm sure you will mention it a the press conference on Friday

Ronnie Gallacher

I’m still holding out hope, all is not lost quite yet. Yes, we’ve made it difficult, still doable. As for the manager’s statement after the game, he has no options but to back the team, he can’t do anything else as needs them to start to perform till the end of the season, still in the hunt for 2 trophies.

Heart and Hand

As has been stated a million times, press conferences are not for us to give our opinion to the manager, it's the other way round. I still can't believe people haven't realised that yet. If you attempt to start lecturing the mananger, it will be ignored. Anyway, the press conference this week is an SFA one and we don't get invited to those.

Derek Robertson

pass accuracy was 80% , on that pitch don't think that's too bad. What would you expect?

Derek Robertson

of course it was better than Ross County, we lost 3 goals in that game

Heart and Hand

Derek, clearly we disagree on last night. If you felt the performance was acceptable and the manager's comments were correct, great. I didn't.

Rickie Clark

Spot on -- you could see what was happening after two minutes of play.

CRAIG CASSELLS

Not only is the league gone (no matter what Clement thinks) but more worrying is the financial chasm between ourselves and Celtic. Direct entry the the new CL format, with a guaranteed 4 homes games, is rumoured to be worth £50m plus, funds we so badly need for yet another summer rebuild. Celtic rule the roust, have done since 2012, and there is just no way I see it stopping because money talks. Post 55 was our chance to be top dogs but lack of investment both in summer 2021 and January 2022 gifted Celtic the title and any momentum that 55 may have given us disappeared. It isn't easy being a Bear these days.

Russell McGhee

The Manager made a fool of himself last night with his post match comments. I saw what I saw and I and 000's of others are not idiots. Treating the support with such disrespect is unlikely to end well. It's the end of the road for the vast majority of that side.

Rose Mcloughlin

Thanks David..wish your team had made you feel a little bit better..but its us..we dont do anything easy....but as I say thanks for even doing this pod for us...take care.

Leslie White

Our problem, apart from having gutless players, going forward 24/25 we need at least two or three Scottish Bluenoses. There is no one in that team that has any idea of tradition and history. Trying to to find them is another matter, I believe in defence there may be a case for some of the young squad. As for where we’re missing is a mid field and forward line, one each Scots bluenoses in those positions, would at least improve the squad.

David Innes

💯 this. We need to face facts about where we actually are as a club - until we can find a way to start bridging the financial gap then we don’t have any real right (that’s not just based on historical standards)to go into a season even expecting to seriously challenge for the title let alone win it. There is a glass ceiling in terms of the quality of player willing to come to Scotland but they will continue to have a better squad than us because they can pay higher wages and transfer fees. We all keep saying this isn’t a great Celtic team but how many of them would still walk into our starting 11 - I’d say at least 8, probably 9

Alan Weir

Perhaps an improvement in some other stats, maybe starting with the final score?

David Abercrombie

Yes, we know it's difficult to play against a packed defence - but that's the gig in Scotland. Wasn't he told that?

chris smith

I know he has to defend the players with only 6/7 games to go, but that presser was verging on the Bealesque …

Hendi

Last week, "disruption caused by postponement is not an excuse". Last night "lummpy pitch is not an excuse" Why mention them then? I like the big man and think he's the man for the job. But this is the kind of pish Beale used to say in a different accent.

John leitch

Gutless performance, these last two matches were unacceptable No style or pattern Midfield one paced Borna should have been trusted and Sterling in midfield

Billy McCormack

Sick of all the excuses from Players and Managers, it's the same shite time and again, "we'll learn from this shite" they come away with this BS all the time, and I'll be zoning out now while Tav, Goldson Lundstrum etc are still in this club, and it'll properly be along time until I start watching Rangers again, I can't watch any of that shite again with those shitbag players.

Jude W

The recent form shows how important McCausland was in running at defenders and causing problems for the opposition which didn’t rely on a systematic ‘overload.’ His injury in that horrific challenge against Motherwell has proven something of a turning point in the season imo.

Bixby Snyder

I've said it before but we need to Jordan Henderson Tav from next year on because he 100% will still be at the club. Get Sterling at right back, sub Tav on when needed - defense or right wing, and push Sterling to the middle during the game if needed.

Stephen Miller

I’ve been listening to a lot of history podcasts recently, got me thinking what social media would’ve been like after seismic events like Dunkirk!!! Anyway my big takeaway from last night was of a collective group of players on full retreat and it was sadly expected. I wouldn’t concede the steam off my piss whilst it is still mathematically possible for us to win the league, I’ll surrender nothing to them. We need to regroup as a squad of players, supporters and as a club. This isn’t a rallying call to arms, more like let’s just see what happens in the short and long term. Perhaps the yanks might ride in and put their weight behind the effort.

Tamus

Who the f*ck paid £35M for the useless Shaggy Doo looking cnut Silva. Get him to fuck back to Wolves today

Tamus

The managers post match ramblings are insane

Ryan Stewart

On the Clement press conference. Understand the anger, but it’s feels like he was on a hiding to nothing tbh. Short of coming out and setting fire to everything, nothing he said was going to satisfy anyone. If he came out with cliche answers everyone would have been up in arms about that as well. I’d like to think he has earned enough trust to be given the benefit of the doubt on this one. One thing I’m absolutely certain of is that we can’t keep going round in this vicious circle of sacking managers every 6 months to a year. We’ve all said it, he has worked wonders to even get us into a position where we were even challenging. He needs backed to bring in players and get rid of the losers who have failed 4 different managers

Spoon

David, agree with the majority of your comment on the game, think its naive from any fan to think the Manager slaughters the players before a cup semi, especially when some are already mentally at their next club or know they wont be retained. You are also spot on with how you pitch that and the tone of the message, you can back them while acknowledging the dip. Where I disagree slightly is in terms of its all about fear or heart I personally think this is peoples levels catching up with them. I am more convinced that ever that we love to over hype guys and then are almost incredulous when they arent as good as we have built them up to be. I will keep it short as I have bored folk on the boards about my take on the ‘stars’ in the team before but the big thing for me is the interest we have had in players is non-existent really. Nobody really wants Goldson, Lundstrum, Lawrence, Cantwell, even Tav despite his numbers as they are exactly what we saw last night, limited bang average players. I am giving Clement credit, and to be fair previous mangers who stitched these broken biscuits into a team at times who punched well above their weight, when push comes to shove however they just arent very good. It’s all projects, prospects, potentials, ‘if we can get them right’ type players or exotics that we sign never just the solid pro from across the road who we can improve through coaching. The concept of coaching players from Dundee to elevate them to Rangers level seems to have died, it now has devolved to buy the best guys and we have the best team ethos which for me only works when you have a budget far in excess of our own. We need to stop being attracted by the guy who once went for £X millions and grab the guy from Motherwell who is tearing the league up then bring him on. Last night was players showing who they really are and for too long we as a support have given guys a mystique or level they really haven’t earned. Bassey and Tillman aside few have gone on to bigger better things or gone for the kind of money we expected. Silva is the latest guys who’s biggest move seems very much to have already come, even Sima doesnt strike me as a guy who is half as good as folk make out, he has indeed got potential but to hear some talk he was a guy worth us blowing £7 million on, based on what ? Not goals or assist certainly. As a final rant…..the leadership group seem to keep convincing subsequent managers they are worth keeping and worse worth listening to. Each person who comes in and ‘evaluates’ the squad keeps them and doesnt really drop or rotate them but I thought Clement would be different. If he now persist with these guys then he isnt as astute as we all hoped, if he is also duped by these charlatans then he is as culpable as those before these guys as you rightly point out bring others down and clearly are not the right guys to have around the dressing room. We can be honest and say given the number of managers, the time frames and the squad changes its clear that Tav, Goldson, Lundstrum and Barasic (probably include Jack and McGregor) have not ultimately been good influences. We need massive change, we need a real hard look at what we are trying to achieve and what we are willing to do to get there, we need honesty about our squad and realism about what market we should be shopping in with our budget and needs. Time to properly admit we are no longer Simply the Best, time for real change and hopefully we have a board and manager willing to make the hard choices. We are now dangerously close to not being the most successful team in football and it’s sobering.

Alan Weir

Question that hopefully is valid and not too confrontational for a press conference: Would it not be sensible to play Sterling in midfield - where he looked a real revelation - rather than left back where he looks clumsy, awkward and very one-footed?

Calum Downham

Sadly we’d be forced to play Barasic, who is worse than a man down. Davies not kicked a baw in months

Scott Dickson

I’d argue the loss of Yilmaz has been bigger. We have no threat of overlapping/inside runs from defence now. Tav doesn’t have the legs, so we end up with a really static back 4 that means we constantly just shuffle the ball from side to side. Souttar helped break the lines earlier in the season by carrying the ball forward and beating the press, last night 3-4 times he started, then realised there was no options at full back, midfield was marked so he turned back and passed to Goldson.

Alan Riddell

Agree with most of the pod and comments. Can’t believe what game clement was watching ffs. Why stick to this team, they’re not holding up their end of any trust. Same shite at this time of the season as always. I’m done with Tavernier, Goldson, Lundstrom, Silva, Dessers, Lawrence, Cantwell who were absolutely pitiful last night. Gutless spineless inept showing from the whole team. 😤😤😤 Injuries have been shocking but out because of a thumb injury, come on. Thought Ridvan was only 5 days away 2 weeks ago.

Robbie McCarroll

I thought mcausland looked quicker and more up for it than any other player in our team certainly had some fight about him which is lacking maybe we trust in him and maybe another youth player in he run in this team won’t win the league anyway

Craig

When David was reading out Clement’s post match comments about possession and chances it reminded me of back in the Warburton days when he talked about seeing the stats!

Rod

How embarrassing must it be to know the game's on Sky and everyone watching can see your scared of your own shadow playing against Dundee.

@bluebeans

Manager has a right here, right now dilemma …. back them whilst there are still prizes to be won at the risk of them pulling him down with their sinking ship ….. there is a genuine danger of that happening ……. you cannot defend the indefensible, certainly not in that manner

Gavin Sullivan

I agree I think Clement is trying to deflect from his players but in doing so spent a hell of a lot of credit with the fans I'm doing so. Because what he's said and what we saw were miles apart

Max Power

David, you are completely right about players taking ownership to change the game. Non of our so called “playmakers” have the bravery to get on the ball and affect the match. They actually hid behind Dundee players.

GlasgowBear

We have a rotten core of players that infect anyone new that comes in. Thats why they need removed.

Colin McL.

Sterling’s comments now showing up the manager. I assume he’ll get asked about it in the press conference. Will he publicly disagree with the player?

Alex Downie

Thought the song today would be “Rip it Up” by Orange Juice, Watching last night you just knew that it was one of those games, which the players will learn from. No fight no passion and a lacklustre performance, need to rip it up and start again. Sell whoever we can would not be sad to lose any of these players.

Gary campbell

A might have a bee in my bonnet regarding lundstrum but a didn’t see why we signed him thought he was bang average at the time and apart from 3 months under gio and a few months under clement at first but has went bk to type just don’t see what he brings to team that would warrant a significant wage which he will be on coming from the prem , imo u won’t be able to dominate games with lunny as ur lynchpin focus midfield he shots the bed to often and his performance along with others was nothing short of embarrassing the amount of times he just kicked the ball over his shoulder to get rid of it was a joke even if we go on to turn this around theirs certain players need redded out , this team have shown time and again that they don’t have the bollocks to play for this club

Alan Stewart

David, you hit the nail on the head. Like many others, I’m more angry with myself for choosing to believe things would be different this season after our revival. I put total faith in the players. Yet again, they have shat on our doorstep and left us despondent. I’m done with them. The thought of the senior players wearing the jersey next season will finish me.

Lewis

The manager talking garbage now is the last thing we needed.

Grant McNeil

Totally understand Clement not wanting to throw the players under the bus however i think the only option he had if he wanted to protect them was to take the blame himself. Say he got the selection wrong etc. Trying to tell fans that what they watched was acceptable wasn’t an option. Clement does have the credit in the bank but this should be the last time he uses it to protect this group of players. We need to start next season with the fans still having real trust in Clement.

Granters

Agree with the comments about fear. The way this team is performing at the moment reminds me of Walter’s teams in the CL mid-90s when they repeatedly failed to deal with the pressure of qualifying; Nervous, edgy, too scared of making mistakes to play their normal game, and just waiting on a talisman to magic something out of nothing.
