If we don't play like that second half against Hearts and then better against Celtc we have no chance at a double

Mark Rennie

Any 1 else having issues with this playing? Everything else is playing apart from the update

Douglas Innes

SFA copying SNP handbook by rewarding failure

Jordan McKay

I was really interested in Clement’s comments re. McCausland and the academy. It’s hard to judge young Ross harshly at all for this season in light of those comments. He will be 22 at the end of next season. If he hasn’t kicked on by then, we can have a conversation about his future at the club. I think he’ll come good though.

Leslie White

So Collum to be head of Refs, so how many decades will it be till we see any Refs in Europe. Still that’s your reward for being Liewells Lap Dug!

Gregg

Typical SFA move - jobs for the boys, safe etc. Wouldn’t get a job at a bowling club

Ross Whitehead

Scottish football really is corrupt to the core.

Stigger

The guys email is absolutely spot on ! Totally agree with young player integration 👍

Andrew Stewart

Tavs performance was a strange one for me. He barely touched the ball and seemed to me, to be hiding. His body language was fine, was happy celebrating goals, so I dont think he'd spat the dummy. Perhaps a tactical choice to keep him back more. I am in no way a tactical guru, just something I noticed.

Graham Roy

Has Collum ever been picked to ref in Europe? I vaguely remember he was and made an unsurprising arse of it! But yeah he will improve them! 🤦🏻

Jim McCutcheon

Thanks David 👏enjoyed your chat as usual ❤️🤍💙

David Campbell

Like yourself David I needed to hear that from the gaffer a very charming nice guy with a switch if you don't follow his demands. The manager shouldn't need to be constantly on the back of these players it shows the amount of work required if they can't /won't do the basics.

AGS

Sure he does European games. Don’t think a Scottish ref has made a World Cup/ European Championship since early 2000’s

Spoon

Spot on David, let’s hope we get board backing for real change. Said elsewhere I can live with disruption for a season if I am seeing real change coming and a vision. Players and the manager rightly in focus but let’s not forget the board haven’t been on it for a long time, bad decisions and short term thinking needs to change into a proper structured plan. Back the manager I think we do good things. Strangely positive about this close season. Let’s hope player profile gives cause for even more optimism when signings start to come in 👍🏻

Stephen

To be fair to the board, they backed us with a lot of money the last 2 summers. Problem was Gio and Beale wasted the money.

Bill Jones

totally agree with your assessment of both the SFA and Willie Collum

Steve Clark

On young Ross,I give him huge credit, while more senior players were going into hiding after the second goal,he showed real determination to get his goal which prevented half time being even more hostile than it was.he also made a fantastic tackle just before the equaliser that showed he was up for the fight but it also got the crowd up as well.i found big Phil’s comments about getting the academy player integrated into the first team incredibly encouraging

Graham johnston

Callums appointment went like this. "So Mr Lawwell who do you want in the role "

Gregg

We are spending the money we are generating (now). The board doesn’t really “back a manager” in that sense, sorry for being pedantic. Current board wasn’t in place for Gio - they gave Beale the keys to the sweet cupboard but then made a good call in getting PC in. We need to be better moving forward

Mark Boyd

How he is backed is all that matters Davie. That and having a good manager in place for more than a year to 18 months

Doug

I think you're just remember a quiet 5-10 min patch he had in the first half. Overall he had the second most touches of any player on the pitch (88), in between Davies (92) first & Cantwell (86) in second. He was first equal (with Raskin and Lyle Cameron) for Most Passes into the Final Third (10) and had the 3rd Most Defensive Actions on the field as well. Was a busy boy.

Doug

A fair bit actually - 49 UCL matches, 43 UEL, 5 UECL, 1 UEFA Super Cup, 12 Qatar WC Qualifiers, 14 Euro 2024 Qu, 15 International Friendlies, 6 UEFA Nations League games, 1 Egyptian Premier League game, 2 Intertoto Cup games, 2 Euro 2016 matches and 12 games across various International Youth tournaments.

Spoon

Sorry to be equally pedantic but the board has undergone various iterations but much like this team elements have remained throughout in various positions. Bisgrove for example as part of the senior management team has had influence, for board read senior management team or whatever business label suits. What is clear is that much like the playing squad while things have changed each year much has stayed the same and the same signing policy that brought us Ramsay brought us Silva in my opinion. The semantics of who signed it off doesn’t really matter our ethos has been the same. Ignoring local talent in favour of flash signings from other leagues or areas of the world. We have now got to a point with players that it’s hard to see how anyone could live up to expectation and if we did unearth, for example, a 40 goal a year striker on a free we would have them for 6-12 months. We need a squad that’s not about individuals for me but about the collective including subs, that was what Clement seemed to have until the wheels came off. My view only so pedant away….

Spoon

Gio didn’t waste the money as he didn’t make the signings he wanted. Wilson bought guys Gio didn’t want as was widely discussed at the time and I referred to like Ramsay who was never going to work but was shiny and expensive in more ways than one. I think the longer time passes and after the Beale bubble burst it’s clear Gio was sold out, people can talk about his style of play but what manager can implement a style without their own players. even Clement has found this out this year. Others can have their views but for me Gio was hard done to, stabbed in the back by Beale and hung out by the board. The board has put in money I am not disputing it, we also made money on players so not sure it’s as huge a nett spend as being made out. The last two summers the board also extended contracts, raised wages and kept players longer than they should so not sure I see it as positively as you make out. I think the idea the transfers have been good for the last 10 years is highly debatable, some gems but overall poor for me.

Phil's record of bringing through youth, at all the clubs he's been at, has been fairly stellar. Not all of them household names or superstars, but solid pros who are having good/decent careers on the continent. That's the purpose of the academy. It's not a superstar factory. Even the best clubs at developing youth talents, buy in and poach an awful lot of their best youth players. Our squad should be littered with younger players, rather than the Dowell's, Davies' and Wright's of this world. Absolutely zero harm to those guys, but count up their appearances, and we'd have been far better served both financially and developmentally having a young player in their place, either one we bought or developed ourselves. We've been doing a dreadful job of strengthening the team since we won the title. It's been constant upheaval every single summer, there's been zero consistency or strategy in our squad building. When you couple that with a dysfunctional attitude towards youth development, then you end up over paying for ageing players and failing to add real strength to the first team. There's a reason we've been overly reliant on guys like Goldson and Tavernier for as long as we have been. We haven't added players of a similar quality to them in their primes, in other positions on the park, despite having the money to do so. It's been stop gaps and hopefully this broken player can revive his career at Ibrox etc. It needs to change, and it needed to change years ago. Likewise, it was fine when Gerrard was rebuilding the club in the early years of his tenure, we lacked quality at all levels. Now there are no excuses. We've re-established ourselves, time we started acting like we have. I'm hoping that Koppen and Clement can revolutionise how the club actually handles its transfer business. We can't afford to carry on in the same vein as we have been of late.

Stewart Robertson

Just watched Big Phil’s press conference. Oooft !

Alan Colligan

This is abundantly obvious. I'm struggling to see why Gio is blamed for Wilson's signings unless we're all of a mind that Gio was a long time admirer of Lawrence and Ben Davies

Rod

Our fans attitude to youth is a joke tbh for the reasons David mentioned. The same people then moan about not signing Ferguson when we all know they would have deemed him not good enough after 6 months and wanted him sold. Big Phil seems up for giving them a chance, I hope that continues next season.

John Breen

Can we now say that the board made a huge mistake and not buying a proven goal scorer (Shankland) in January. It’s now undeniable that we missed the boat

Gregg

Fair points - the commercial director would have no say in players though. Hopefully they have learned lessons from being on the board when said mistakes were made - albeit in different roles.

Gary Brown

Thanks for the update David. There's a helluva lot more negativity going round about last night, these aren't new issues. But what we did see was a helluva lot more to be positive about from young and less regular starters. Can't blame managers, whichever one you decide to pick on, for not bringing youth through. The expectations of our fanbase have never, ever allowed any manager to bring through and develop prospects. The current manager wants to do that and in plenty of patron comments they want to see it too. Not seen anyone saying 'naw keep doing what we've been doing'. It is absolutely VITAL to the future of the club the Player Trading model is our standard operating procedure from now. We as fans must accept we'll take a few hits as this establishes and develops, we all know our club simply can not buy in top class, experienced, peak years players - Never ever again! We can't out spend, so we have to out smart our rivals until we can. The full thing is about making as much money as often as possible. And that involves winning as often as possible. It's not bringing in youth so they can lose! Playing for Rangers is pressure enough; opposition desperate to claim a big scalp, mhedia desperate to put the knife in, officialdom (with a different rulebook!), 'no one likes us' yeah we don't care but the players still have to take their abuse. We supporters cannot keep ripping into our own all game every game, especially younger ones. It is to their detriment and in turn ours! Too easy to clap and cheer when they're winning. Its SUPPORT when they're not winning (yet) or trying to overcome a setback, level it and go try again to win. Those are the times they WANT and NEED our support. As a club and most importantly a support we need to accept the model, encourage it and WANT our kids & young men brought in, to come through, play, develop and become winners, future legends and move on to the greatest heights. Just imagine a Bellingham type coming from our academy through the ranks someday! And not just the academy lads, any new sigining eg Dessers. Just needed a bit of time to settle. Encouragement to do so and the love of our amazing support - which it is, sometimes, and can be unrivaled when we're at our best - could've would've made him settle sooner. Just might have made all the difference! The trading model needs to happen and happen right now. We need to accept & encourage it and do that right now. If we don't, then this season, the one before, and before that, and the first two under Gerrard, will just keep happening if we keep doing the same things at board, managerial, recruitment, player and supporter levels.

Spoon

Pretty sure the current chairman was in the board as well as some other current investors, if Bisgrove wasn’t part of the decision making then, not much has changed in policy since he stepped up. Makes you wonder if it’s not the managers who want the current senior leadership group of players or if they get the job as the board expects them to be accommodated. Like the squad issues, while lots of faces change the ethos and issues continue year on year. Time for change in more than rhetoric for me, 1 league in twelve and no tangible squad improvement isn’t really a great record.

Simon Botterill

One of the two biggest issues in Scottish football is officiating, in any business if you have such an issue on this scale you would never appoint within but when it's suits one team it was always going to be the choice, a thank you. Should have been someone outside Britain and someone outside of football. Scottish football is absolutely rotten.

Tom

I wish Patreon let you post GIFs so I could mock the Willie Collum news.😂

Alan

Loved that "My Arse" comment David. Reminded me of my late father and made me laugh. You should try to get an interview with John Moss, maybe get a slant on the sfa and their interview process.

Graeme McLeod

Gio didn't waste money as Gio didn't spend the money. He's openly speaking now about the board not bringing in guys he wanted, and there are still fans pretending he's the one who wasted money on Ben Davies and Ridvan?

Spoon

100% Graeme. Lots of fans at the time made the point he was being badly let down by players he didn’t pick, ironically the same core group who were clearly looking to get Beale back. The issue was the majority of fans refused to see the issues with the squad then and I go back to the original point I made, board have a huge amount of blame to take for spending money badly on the wrong type and profile of player. Gio at least handled things with some class as you would expect, a guy who had us in a Euro final one year but was emptied the next by a board and backstabber after not being backed , poor business by the club which lots tried to say at the time.

John Palmer

Collum head of Refereeing is an absolute disaster.
