John Smith

Nothing against James Bisgrove but if Michael Beale lost his job then it’s only fair in my opinion

Stillsaw

Read this on ff last week btw.

Jamie

Good- didn’t he add his name to part of Walter’s statue? If so his ego is bigger than Murray!!!

David Scott

Did the board match his ambition? or did he just leave for the Saudi Dollar , We need to get this appointment right.

David Innes

In isolation I’m not too disappointed as I’ve never been completely sold on Bisgrove but it’s absolutely horrendous timing

Jamie

Please feel free to correct me my old heed is not so good the now!

KennyY

Can’t blame the guy. The majority of us would do exactly the same in his position. A massive tax free salary increase sets him and his family up for life. Tav and Goldson are available James btw at a decent price. It’s yet another kick in the stones for us this season but it’s probably been brewing for a couple of months. Hope that we are getting decent compensation from the Saudis for stealing our top man. We need a young man at the helm like Bisgrove.

Glen Kane

Maybe we'll now get a CEO that's run a football club before?

Kris

His replacement must have the following (on top of a sharp business mind) charisma, a forthright attitude and Rangers and our place in Scottish society at heart!

Jayson Moore

Why? He’s made money for our club & put us in a higher category of partnership clubs, sponsors etc as commercial director. Clearly highly sought after & I think him leaving is hugely damaging for us mate.

Stephen Grant

His replacement needs installed asap

John Smith

I don’t dispute he’s done great things but Michael Beale was part of 55. He then made mistakes and was punished. Bisgrove contributed a lot of money to this failed campaign.

Jayson Moore

Can’t blame him for going somewhere he’s wanted & quadrupling his wages. But maybe he’s realised he’s hit a ceiling with the quality of investors he can keep bringing in. Tbh for me this is worrying.

Martin Boyd

Don't blame him for following the £. Hopefully the next guy doesn't backslide on fan engagement. Need a hard nosed business man not scared of a fight.

Gordon Millar

On balance he did a great job in the Commercial side but will be judged harshly, understandably based on our lack of success and handing Beale the transfer budget, hope he comes back and takes some of the old guard and sinks a few million into the kitty.

John Smith

If I could nominate someone it would be Andrew McKinlay from Hearts. He’s done a fantastic job there and I’d back him to do a great job here also

John Smith

You can’t blame him for leaving either. Just look at Jim White. Sooner or later everyone falls for the charms of his excellency

Craig

A good opportunity for fresh blood to come on, expect plenty of interest from good candidates.

Paul Kerr

As long as we get the replacement right is all that matters.

David_Davy_Dave

Bisgrove did a great job increasing and modernising our approach to revenue. I really hope the focus on stadium foot print and cost effective increase to seating continues I’m curious if we replaced him in that original marketing role he had before stepping up to CEO? On a replacement a big thing for me is us trying to navigate the changes in European club football. We helped create the champions league. I’m not suggesting we have anywhere that influence now but I also don’t believe the club need to be passive Italian, Spanish & French clubs are looking at cross border leagues to rival the EPL. Dutch & Portuguese clubs of pedigree in a small country like us are obvious allies I’d like our new CEO to really have connections at UEFA & capitalise on the current flux

Spoke the corporate jargon, as commercial guy, made incremental financial progress, from an extremely low base. Still don’t feel the club is delivering on our commercial value , need to diminish low level shirt sponsorship , provide the appropriate environment for FTSE sponsorship investment. Bisgrove was a great orator , who often forgot what he was representing, in my opinion. The amendment of general season book packages to more expensive hospitality season books in bar 72 to club 1972 , which doubled my season book price during Covid was outrageous. There was no recognisable difference in the “ VIP Hospitality” branding for the supporter , other than emptying more money from their bank accounts. The Celtic friendly debacle was a public relations disaster , that had his hands all over it. So have got to say , in my humble opinion , the club are better off without him .

Max Todd

Tbf, there’s a ceiling that any club stuck in the awful SPFL system can bring in. Look at the tv deal, struggle for sponsors and the prize money available. In his shoes, I’d take the Saudi cash too. Sad… but reality.

Jock Paterson

This guy was poison. There will be plenty stories come out about him. Erase him from the history books.

Russ

I'd guess the club will look to Belgium for the next CEO. Sort of like what Villa are doing with Emery but on a budget. Still debatable whether Clement is the man to build this structure around, let's hope he is!

George Higgins

He did a great job in building up our revenues considerably. That allowed us to mount a challenge in Scotland and Europe . Instituted changes throughout the club. Overall did a good job. Mistakes were made of course but that happens in any business.

George Higgins

I left Bar 72 when the price increased and moved to the main stand as I didn’t feel it was value for money. That’s a choice we all have as I understand there are thousands on the waiting list to get into Club 72. It increases the club’s income and without it our ability to compete on the pitch is diminished . If you can afford it then great.

Fraser Martin

Saudi is so Bisgrove. Enjoy the sandpit and counting your money Jim.

KMS

Promote David Milburn from within 👍

Jim Milne

Coming into Rangers when he did, I'm sure James had to build an entire commercial department practically from scratch. He's done a great job creating revenue, it's unfortunate that this is happening. Although I'd rather have it happen now than midway through the summer. We thank him for a service, and we move on. Hopefully we can get someone who does just as good a job and can improve on the groundwork that James laid

David Innes

Bringing in the money is only part of the role - it needs to be invested wisely to deliver success on the park. He failed to do that

stefan strzelecki

When it moved to VIP, I wasn’t able to move to general season book sales , so had to accept the rising cost for a couple years. Until it got to the stage , I couldn’t justify paying £2.5k . As a consequence the club , under his commercial stewardship , advised that if I wished a general season book , then I would need to join the 20 k waiting list. There were many loyal supporters , just like me , told the same. The demand to watch the club is ever growing, I don’t doubt this , it’s the first time I have heard of a waiting list for the vip season packages . You learn something everyday.

Rod

A refreshing level headed take on this from David.

Graeme Homer

He knew how to bring money in, however he didn’t care who he shat on to do it and has damaged relationships. Hopefully Bennett and the new person fixed some of it.

Colin Mathie

Was to blame for the Sydney cup fiasco, cya!

Gregg

He will be a big miss - was exciting to have someone with a modern approach at the helm.

Fraser86

To blame for what....trying to make millions of £££ out of nothing

JimM

Virani next please

Colin Gardner

This was broke a few days ago by someone on a rumours site.

Jock Paterson

Yeah, I’m in the habit of talking pish on here. If you know better feel free to elaborate.

Alan Riddell

Can’t blame him, he’s gone for megabucks to Saudi. Players do this all the time, look at the Cordoba saga where he changed his mind for more money. We need a CEO who will stand up to the SPFL and to Celtic and its propaganda machine. Not sure who could do it, but as is always said, no one is indispensable. We need to get his replacements appointment right first time though.

Graham McCallum

I think we need a show from our very own Saltcoats Sage Mr Andy McGowan on the Bisgrove tenure

Graham Jones

First of all, there is a good time to go, and it would’ve been weeks ago, or once he’d finished the job he had started as CEO in recruitment. Now he leaves with our whole transfer strategy in his head, and that club will use that knowledge. It’s a fuckin’ mess he’s left but that will be his legacy that he leaves with. He was the CEO of an awful transfer policy, a bad managerial appointment that had too be rescued and he took a whole year to appoint a new head of recruitment in place of a director of football. He was a good marketing director, put in place every sponsorship that any big club out there has, but it was bringing us up to standard position within the industry, not groundbreaking. He was good to deal with for the supporters, but he was the architect of the screw up Down Under, and that will be something he will carry the can for. So, his record was mixed. We now face a hunt for the right CEO that isn’t going to run off when an Arab waves a chequebook at him. He’s going from a league that isn’t;t great but is still a legitimate football country, to a league that nobody gives a shit about. In my opinion the nature of his departure says a lot about hint as a person. He’s a career type who is after the money. He was never big enough to run Rangers in my opinion. We need to appoint a proper CEO who can elevate us to the next level. They are out there, an we need to identify the right one. I just hope it doesn’t;t take forever like it did with replacing a director of football.

Simon Botterill

Absolutely correct, Bisgrove has done a very good job but I think he is very aware the next step is too big with our finances and split support on how to tackle the SFA and SFPL.

James Barrie

I think breaking news pods would benefit from its own special intro - like David’s 90s film Reviews on the cropod just a similar intro for breaking news

Gary Brown

Lots of great balanced points to summarise his time Graham. Well said. He brought a great deal to our club in the overhaul of the commercial & marketing dept. Groundbreaking for us. Standard for the rest of planet football as you rightly point out. Personally I think he did more right than wrong. Always represented the club in a forward thinking positive way. Was respectful about the club's standing and respectful of the value of the supporters and respectful to them. Don't reckon our transfer targets will be of much interest to the Saudi teams. Plus there simply must have been some sort of Non Disclosure Agreement or confidentially clause in his contract. Yes he could break that, RFC could sue. But damage already done by losing the players. Saudi / his money would win but his credibility would take the biggest hit. Taking the OF 'on tour' was(is!) a great idea to monetise the brand(s) worldwide. Exposes the club to emerging and ravenous TV markets, new supporters and even potentially new players (eg Diomande got a shirt, led to a dream, led to a dream coming true) to the club and also lets ex-pat supporters see their team in the flesh. Hijacking the idea and rebranding it as Flange's Homecoming was undoubtedly not Bisgrove's idea. The big mistake was not 'reading the room' quick enough. Kept chasing the money, the very considerable, money (which was his job after all) and made a calculated business decision anyone, except locals, would naturally make. Don't recall the figures but it was a helluva a lot for an exhibition match! See all sorts of comments now with allegations of him being a 'wrong un' in his personal life. If so and you've been a victim of a crime I'd suggest accuse and get your evidence presented quickly, as he'll be out of legal jurisdiction very soon. As will any chance of justice. And the exclusively exclusive story fee the Daily Rhebel can afford these days isn't much compared to actual compensation.

Chaz Laird

Dujon Sterling to step in as interim CEO 😂

Gregg

He didn’t appoint Beale - think most CEOs are going if they get offered multiples of their salary. Same as the footballers. Hope we have a list - a role that needs filled properly

Graham Hendry

Leann Dempster a possibility? Rangers fan who knows the Scottish game

8luenose1872

If there was no compensation then its possible the club just wanted rid sharpish because of the rumours. Mind u ive only just heard today there are rumours regarding his personal life so fk knows if its all nonsense.

David Innes

Would be a pretty big step up from her current job at Queens Park - can’t see it personally

Gregg

Huge step - taking away the football element and comparing the sizes of the business. Ten fold increase in revenue - very big step up. Not for me. Always thought

Graham Hendry

Not at all. She knows the lie of the land in this backwater, albeit she hasn’t been at big clubs

Ross McDonald

Bisgrove, Beale and to a lesser extent extent Zeb Jacobs always struck me as big risks - ambitious and talk the talk, yes, but almost completely unproven in their respective key senior roles. It’s fine to take calculated risks here and there but those all at the same time has proven to be real error of judgement. Hopefully lessons are learned.

Gregg

In any other business going from a £7m a year business to a £70m + one - you’d need to have been pretty spectacular in the previous role. Could be a role for her in a lesser capacity with a view to stepping up - I just can’t see it. I hope we aren’t restricting ourselves to folk in football - small talent pool

Graham Hendry

I’m sure the adults at Ibrox will try and get the best possible candidate. Bisgrove was clearly v good at some things but less so at others.
