I'm short sighted enough that I can't see the distance to the back of my head in the barbers

Gregg

Teams interviews are great - so much more comfortable as you’re at ease and can have notes. I’d never have taken notes into an interview even though it’s allowed

Semi serious pod here. i enjoyed. The consequences for programmable Central Bank Digital Currency? What could go wrong? Digital is convenient but when you want to pass on cash, say to someone who is homeless etc… It’s got to be about ‘more control.’

Robert White

CBDC. Control of you. What you can spend. Expiry date on your currency. Cash is the only way to avoid this. Avoid anywhere that only takes digital cash.

Dean Anderson

Between this and WTM I hear Jack and Colin's voices in my sleep these days. Good to have Andy in to mix it up 😂 Friday nights listening sorted

Damien Stubbs

Thank f*ck for that banger of an outro, brought me out of the depression of th first 30 Mins 👀😂 dreading going to get my haircut tomorrow, the sight of the back of my ugly head might push me over the edge

Jack smith

I would love a debate as a small business owner about cash and why it’s still “ very important

Paul Kerr

A more serious tone this week guys. So i'll give my tuppence worth. Digital payment options now are ample, anything else like a new digital only currency is about controlling individuals. Coupled with advancing AI and data mining it won't be a good thing. Drivers would be an early soft target but it would become very invasive. While I agree education should be more fluid and have increased variety/focus depending on the student. Every kid should be getting much more on life skills. It's ridiculous how unprepared we are when leaving school for renting, mortgages, loans, credit cards, contracts, consumer rights etc. Teams interviews... Hmmm tricky one this. I've always been good at getting a rapport going in face to face but in teams it is easier to focus on the interview scenarios themselves. Maybe Andy has it right, you need 2 stages, a role focused and more casual meet and greet to get the balance. Cheers.

Loving the AI theme tune!! 🇬🇧🤣🇬🇧

If you do away with the requirement to do sciences at school, we’ll soon run out of doctors, engineers who keep the country running. Kids will pick the easiest subjects.

Mark

Interviews may not be ideal but they are still the best tool available

Stephen

Loved that Colin said cash is too dirty and unhygienic minutes after talking about selling his old shoes to someone 😂

Rona Bluebell

Awww, Colin’s so sweet (seeing someone lovely). 🥰 Still loving that theme tune. 🎵

Ross Stirling

Interviews aren't always the best because I wonder how some of the fucking morons I work with got passed one. (PS, absolutely buzzing to hear the new theme tune)

Craig

Colin is like Dr Dre who wears them once and then discards - yes I’ve bought second hand trainers and nobody but myself has known. A result of divorcing and needs must. I may add that I used to spend hundreds on trainers, hoodies and trousers.

Go to most Chinese takeaways and it's mostly cash only signs on the window.

Danny Crumb

That new AI intro/outro lives rent free in my head now. Thanks 😅

Gavin McGeown

Know a guy who used to wear a suit and a pair of old Reebok Classics trainers to interviews

Bixby Snyder

Great pod, gents. If you want to depress yourselves more, re: generational wealth, check out the book The Meritocracy Trap. Essentially, it talks about how passing down wealth to your kids actually maintains, and even widens, the class gap. That, and the fact that people rarely marry outside of their own class now.

I love you Colin but fucking hell, I'm a secondary teacher in one of the worst bits of kirkcaldy and it is literally now being completely geared towards developing "soft skills" rather than "useless" physics etc. We spend countless hours selecting and preparung courses for folk who don't want to go into uni. We actually end up offering more skills for work courses than your classic biology, chemistry, physics stuff you're on about. School isn't there to hope you remember some bits of the periodic table after school, it's to give you the skills to prove you can learn and develop skills. As my dad used to say to me growing up, would you like your aeroplane pilot to have a 50/50 chance of pressing the right buttons for you to land? Unfortunately retaining information and understanding it is incredibly important in the world.

Alan Shaw

My daughter is at uni studying forensic chemistry and she went to a state school.
