Last minute drama at it's absolute finest. England have made the final of EURO 2024 thanks to Ollie Watkins' 90th minute finish to down a Dutch side who started brightly but were outdone by Gareth Southgate's side. James welcomes England's own Tess to look back on the game, the immediate excitement of making their first ever foreign final and looking ahead to Sunday's final against Spain.

Penalty a joke but best team won

An absolute travesty committed on the Dutch tonight. Celtic I mean England sneak their way to the final courtesy of a crooked ref (Jude Bellingham’s words). Thankfully Spain will punish them on Sunday

The only reason people think it wasn't a penalty is because it's never usually given. Anywhere else on the pitch it is a foul, and the laws don't differentiate about where a foul is committed on the pitch. For years defenders have got away with throwing themselves at attackers with no intention on winning the ball, just to put them off (although ironically tonight was less in that mould) Regarding Southgate - the world and his dog (including me) has told him he needs to do things differently and improve the style of play. He's been brave and stuck to his guns, and he is one game away from winning the tournament. Maybe it's time to credit him

That referee and VAR team should never officiate another game again. Absolute shocker. Regardless, England deserved it and they will make better opposition against Spain. Gutless performance from the Dutch and they deserved that last minute blow. Any chance of a preview pod as I genuinely have no clue how England win against Spain. They don’t have the one-touch-and-go like the Germans used to some success against them.

The reading of John Barnes “poem” made me laugh out loud. Two points to make. When the famous Scottish referee “tiny” Wharton was challenged that “that was never a penalty” he would retort “buy the Times tonight you see that it was”. Every rule in the games starts with “if, in the referees opinion”. England have been on the rough end of some decisions in major tournaments, they were due a bit of luck. Secondly, in 2004 a team of wonder kids lead by Ronaldo was famously thwarted by an unflavoured team in white. While I refute that England is the home of football, I can see the trophy crossing the channel.
