Leaving Lammers out of pre season is a bad move. Signals the fact that you want rid and will drive price down.

Re Mo signing, we were in our local pub on the Sunday evening. In came the local bookmaker and announced that Johnston would be signing in the morning and offered Even money for anyone who didn’t believe him. I know at least a couple of Tim’s who lost a serious amount of cash 😇

Always remember the cover of the Follow Follow fanzine issue after this of a cartoon Mo Johnston kneeling hands clasped in his Rangers strip with the caption “Forgive me father I have signed”

I read somewhere that we won't be back in Ibrox till the 2nd January and now that we now know kinda what's happening the last thing the board will want is rushing the work through then something else going wrong .

What a day that was. I thought someone was bs'ing me when they told me he'd signed for us.

Mo Johnston's signing is one of those days you can remember where you were and what you were doing when you first heard the news. I was in the house, late in getting up, so had not seen any newspaper and hadn't put the TV or radio on. I think I was on holiday from work because I definitely wasn't in that day anyway. My Mother came in having been down at my Gran's and the first thing she said when she came through the door was "Mo Johnston's signed for Rangers". "Aye right, where did you get that crap from" was my reply. "It's in 'The Sun'" she replied. "Well there you go, if THEY printed it it's absolute rubbish" said I. But then I turned the telly on and it was all over the lunchtime news. Gobsmacked doesn't do it justice! But once the initial shock subsided I thought it was a bloody brilliant piece of work by Souness. They'd been absolutely certain he was signing for them, and when it fell through they comforted themselves there was at least one place they'd be sure he'd never go, and that was Ibrox. I can remember discussing in the work canteen 2 or 3 weeks before with a couple of them, about how the deal was falling through, and one of them joked "maybe Rangers will sign him" and we all laughed. Those not of an age cannot comprehend how seismic a signing that was. Nothing will ever top it, and I agree, it took them at least 6 years to get over it to a degree (to be honest I'm not sure they have got over it, the fact he can't come back to Scotland without a bodyguard the living proof of that).

So they’re taking their time and it’ll result in a further four month delay? Seems a stretch - we do love to catastrophise as a support eh

Tom

I was 4 when Mo signed, I would have been more interested in playing with my Matchbox cars😂 I'm supporting England tomorrow, just to be contrary! I ran a 10k while listening to this, the farthest I've ever run.

I thought Mo Johnston left Rangers too soon. Realise Mark Hateley and Ally McCoist were running hot but we could’ve used Johnston for 1992-93. Leaving for Everton in his early 30s, then Hearts and Falkirk, was premature. Johnston had also chucked playing for Scotland, so why leave? Maybe the novelty had worn off and being on the bench was the problem but it was a mistake by Johnston to my mind.

Good pod, Hoggy. Apropos the fitness issue, I think we can be confident that Clement will ensure high fitness levels this season. Since he has made such a big issue of it he knows he has to deliver. The anger and frustration about the stadium is certainly accentuated by the fact we have had 3 disappointing seasons on the bounce. When NEH opened the response was lukewarm, due to the negative mood music surrounding the club. Fans had long complained about the poor match day experience and the absence of a club museum, and there was the recognition of the need for new revenue streams in view of FFP. Yet when we open something which ticks all the boxes so many fans pour cold water on it. Had we been top of the league at the time I’m sure the response would have been different. The current situation is embarrassing but at least the issue of the abysmal facilities for disabled supporters is finally being addressed.

David Kiltie

I don’t think Rangers will be hard to deal with. Even if the fee we command is less than what we paid, having him off the books will save the best part of £1m in amortization, which counts towards the FFP staff costs calculation. More importantly it is not right to hamper a player’s career by preventing a move which would be beneficial.

My recollection of mo signing was going to work that morning on the bus and it stopped outside a newsagents and on the billboards outside it had Gets sign mo and I thought why are we signing Maurice Malpas. 🤣

The taigs game will be our first game back at ibrox
