Michael

Why has the club completely stopped putting out any training/pre season content? Seems strange

Miguel Sanchez

Probably just cause every reply to it was folk raging probably felt it was just winding people up

John Smith

Lawrence Shankland….he is the one 🙏

Rona Bluebell

I’ve got it glued into my head, rightly or wrongly, that if we sign Shankland all will be well 💁‍♀️

Stuart MacKenzie

Tav and Goldson deserve their flowers for leading the team from the mess when Gerrard took over to a place where we are consistently the second best side in the country and capable of a lot special moments in Europe particularly. Barisic also falls into that category. But we’ve now got levels to get to that they can’t take us.

Greg

So are we believing the record again?

Vanb bryceter

Oh please get to the start of the season and get this Shankland Weghorst Miovski pish in the bin Rangers. Its tiresome listening to folk comparing what we have against what we wont have Clement will get proper fits for what he wants im sure of it. Just not sure of timescales.

Jamie Townend

Would the club release info on departures as they get confirmed or hold it back to release multiple departees at once? Will you do a breaking news pod when/if Tav goes?

Keith Murray

Mon big Wout Weghorst, all for it

Russ

Ngl if you're a Rangers fan and you're turning your nose up at a 6'6 Dutch internationalist striker then you're backing the wrong team. It probably won't happen but it would be pretty peak haha.

Michael

Seems to me this year fan media dont have a scooby regarding transfers, everything being kept very in doors unless there truly is nothing happening. You got rangers review just reporting what others have said regarding Goldson medical and the fact they cant even tell you the club is a clear indicator they dont have a clue, chris jack already got the boy from bayern wrong aswell.

Scott Tolmie

Cantwell numbers are very poor and that’s where he should be judged

Neil Wilson

David talking about Weghorst {insert Randy gif}

Peter Hosie

I’ve heard Hampden is costing us £120k a game.

Heart and Hand

For obvious reasons, I’m not a fan. But nor can I come on the show and ignore the story I’ve got 118 emails asking about 😃

Alan Weir

I’ve never been a Shankland fan, but the lack of summer movement has me frothing at the mouth for Big Lawrence’s arrival. Very clever by the board.

Heart and Hand

Everything is guesswork mate - club don’t comment publicly or privately on transfers. A club will never come out and say ‘we want him, him and him’. It’s why we always say ‘nothing is confirmed till you see him with a scarf’. BTW Rangers Review isn’t fan media.

Michael

Yeah understandable. Whatever/whoever has changed at the club seems to have stopped any sort of any info getting leaked though, i might be wrong but feels like in previous years - especially if players are apparently flying out for medicals mid pre season, that would 100% be plastered everywhere and we would know what was happening by now.

Stephen

When the dust settles Goldson will be get in the hall of fame. Much like Tav, if the other players in the squad had contributed as much as he had we would have won plenty of trophies over the past 6 years.

Vanb bryceter

For you maybe for all the absolute wallopers banging on and on and offering their own mentalist opinions no. I will wait patiently although its wearing very fkn thin until this transfer window slams shut and see whats left standing afterwards. Enjoy this lovely afternoon David im away out soon for a birthday dinner and a couple of glasses of vino 🍷👍😉

Gregg

That’s no too far shy of what Murrayfield would be so sounds about right.

Vanb bryceter

Cheers i meant to reply the other day aboit your sobriety. Ive tried hard this year and would love to do it. I have cut down loads but just cant get to zero intake so far. Id love to know the secret😉👍

KennyY

Shouldn’t be costing us anything. The contractors should be held liable for any associated costs of their failures to complete the works on time.

Derek Robertson

Time may well be up for both Tav and Goldson howere make no mistake , we are losing our most productive player on Tav and our best central defender at the club. Soutar and Davis are a least a level of 2 below Goldson and Leon is not capable of playing 2 games a week.

Russ

Incidentally I always thought the club should've gone for Bas Dost (pre his collapse). Weghorst would do fine though!

KennyY

Rangers review is the Glasgow Herald and the sponsors they plug everyday on their morning briefing are a community partner of our biggest rival.

Piggott

David, A was waiting for the old good touch for a big man

Craig Armstrong

Quite comfortable saying there's no chance Weghorst will be a Rangers player, also i wouldn't be at all surprised to see Tav and Conor lining up v Hearts a week on Saturday. There said it.

Gregg

They might be though - all contractual. You’d have to pay more for a contract with penalties like that though.

Conor Smith

Must have been some medical yesterday for Goldson, on the plane to brummy

KMS

Gregg

Tav has had about half a dozen managers and god knows how many qualified coaches since moving to Ibrox. If it was as simple as moving him forward one, one of them would have spotted it by now.

Conor Smith

Got to imagine it wasn’t a medical and was out to have a look similar to Wright last year

David_Davy_Dave

Re Shankland £1.5m now £1.5m if he features in the CL groups stages this season and same next season Balances risk and reward for both parties They also need to have a think as it wouldn’t appear they have any offers on the table

David_Davy_Dave

Mmmm very steep v what Celtic paid in 94/95 As I’ve said to you before adjusted for inflation that was equivalent of £0.9m for an entire season Do we not get Jack McGinn rates then?

Liam Watson

What’s rumoured fee for Tav ?

Gregg

It’s been said many many times over the years. The fact no one has given it a bash is telling.

Gregg

If we’re getting stuff at nineteen oatcake prices I’ll take 3 house for £20k a pop

Graeme McLeod

As well as the goals and being a Rangers supporting Scotsman - which I do think we need around the team - another reason to sign Shankland is his experience. Our captain and vice captain are both heading out the door by the looks of it, and that's after losing Allan McGregor and Steven Davis the previous summer. Shankland has been captain of Hearts during Craig Gordon's injury, leads by example on the pitch and has experienced highs and lows in football - his leadership will be invaluable.

Graeme McLeod

I can understand folk dismissing him if all they look at is stats, but he puts the work in and brings other players into the game. He's very unselfish. Can't see it happening because of the finances, but he'd be a massive improvement on Dessers and Lammers.

Spoon

Most no brainier signing since Boyd or Miller, Novo etc. we will get exactly what it says on the tin, he isn’t the messiah but it’s a safe percentage signing when for too long we took punts.

David_Davy_Dave

The actual cost was £0.5m. If you adjust for inflation that equates to a cost of £0.9m today For arguments sake let’s say inflation on rental is greater but we are still paying significantly more than they did if it is £120k a game as that’d be a total of £2.3m scaling up for 19 league games

Douglas Gilligan

Love the exam pressure analogy David, one I can be very guilty of myself. 😀

Graham Roy

Hearts don’t need to sell though. They got a decent fee from the championship last week and Naismith said it was bonus cash. They also will play hard publicly as it’s us! I reckon we will need to stump up minimum £2 million up front to stand a chance but suspect we will need to give them the money they want if the manager wants him!

Gregg

Half of me likes the pettiness of it this - the other half is thinking ffs. Torn 😂

David_Davy_Dave

Haha I wrote it and I agree If the shoe was on the other foot Gregg they’d be squeeling about it

Blair Stevenson

Genuine question - what have we been doing that we've ended up with FFP issues? We've hardly been living significantly above our means in the transfer market - covering most of the costs with players sales. Accounting practices should be helping us there too. Museum ect investment I wouldn't imagine to be included.

Graham Jones

Shankland is a SPL player, and that’s it. If the price is right then fine, he becomes there Kriss Boyd figure where people call for him in Champions League games, but the manager can’t use him because he isn’t mobile enough. Miovski would be the preferred choice, but there’s little hope of Aberdeen dealing with us over him. Any news yet on the steel?

Heart and Hand

Well, because we ran at a loss for so long the Wage bill really - it’s just you are limited to what you can spend as opposed to what you bring in. But it’s not specific to us, pretty much all teams have to work in the framework.

Spoon

Best will in the world thats based on zero facts, as a fan base we have a perverse obsession with what strikers can’t do and not what they can. We are in the SPFL and until we have won it 11 times in the last 12 years I am more than happy to focus on it. We will do nothing of note bar collect cash in the CL, it’s set up to ensure clubs like ours do very little and go away quickly so buying a striker based on Europe is ignoring 99% of what you need them for. The accepted wisdom, among some, is that Shankland can’t press, I have seen him press quite effectively for Hearts and Scotland, he can’t run but I have seen him do excellent things for Scotland and Hearts to hold and build up, the narrative around him isn’t borne out by the reality in my own view. Used properly he could be deadly in the SPFl and domestic cups, used in the proper formation in Europe as a false 9 or deeper 10 he would give us what we have sadly lacked especially if paired with a more nimble striker. The paraphrase he would only be any use domestically seems to ignore that’s exactly what we need from our 9. I want the league and cups not to go another round in the CL or narrowly miss out over 4 games, the other 60 odd games matter more and Shankland has proven in Scotland and Internationally he can contribute. He is also what the squad is desperate for, a guy with standards and drive to be a winner. If we got him and a MacLean type player I go from concerned to optimistic overnight.

David Innes

Shankland doesn’t have any pace but he has considerably more to his all round game than Boyd did - no brainier of a signing for me

Angus Mackay

I’m not sure about players abrogating responsibility to Tav, Davie. I think they simply weren’t good enough and he had to do it because no-one else could. If we’re getting money for midfielders and making room, then hopefully we can get young Miller in - especially if we’re patching the no 10 role. If Shankland signs for anything close to three million at the age and stage that he’s at I’ll probably go the Emirates and throw myself off the Burj Khalifa.

Jim McCutcheon

Wish the guys all the best for their future career's if the deals go through 👍,great service for the club at various levels from each one and i thank them , thing's are hopefully improving now🤔 we as fans need some positives certainly, thanks David and hopefully a positive trip to Birmingham 😀

Graeme McLeod

Why should we be looking down on "SPL players"? We've won the league once since we got back to the top flight, and haven't truly taken it close other than that. Prioritising players who we think better suit European football has been one of the problems for years - we're ignoring our bread and butter. We aren't going to catch up with Celtic by just getting into European group stage football every year - we need to actually start winning league titles and cutting off Celtic's Champions League funds that way. And we do that by signing players that can actually deliver in this league - not by signing punts from Morroco.

Billy Forrester

I’d pay the money for Shankland, he would vastly improve our frontline and is a far better all round player than any of our forwards. He wouldn’t break the bank in wages, I’d imagine 15,000 a week would be around the mark and when u consider the wages we pay Dessers and Lammers it’s a no brainer. Get it done Rangers I’d take young Conway too for a cut price deal, he is a sellable asset in the future due to his age

Scott Hamilton

Nodding in agreement about wages to be freed up yet absolutely terrified how we've chosen to spend money in recent years....

Heart and Hand

Yeah that’s a fair point re Tav. But there were a lot of big earners at times who knew he’d bail them out.

Jordan

Anytime I hear TGA playing on the update, I am happy

Conor Brown

Lawrence Shankland is 29 next month, if we wait any longer he will have retired.

Kenny Morrison

Tav was slow as a week in the jail at the beginning of last season to warmed up a bit midway then slowed down again !. Worked to death by every manager poor management .

Spoon

100% Graeme, as we chuckled at them being poor in Europe they have added over a dozen domestic honours as we search for Euro strikers….utter hubris

Gregg

I’m not against Shankland tbh - though I wish we’d come out and either say we are never ever ever signing him or just sign him. The chat is boring and has been for at least six months. Do we need to sign SPL players to win the league - Celtic haven’t done that and have added honour after honour. Personally think we need to just be better at recruiting - and bringing through players regardless of where they’re from.

Jock Paterson

Sterling is as good a defender as Tav at wing back…

Jason Allan

We need a goalscorer who can score 25-30 in the league. So get Shankland in for under 2million, that replaces what Tav gave us. Let’s have a defence focused on keeping clean sheets again.

Spoon

Hear what your saying Gregg but they are able to shop differently from us due to their buying power. They have also picked up local talent when it was available and they have been better at bringing through their youth players into their first team. My point is more about the percentages and not turning our nose up at someone just as they play here. We seemed for as while to focus purely on uncovering a hidden academy gem, that’s a hard market. We don’t have to sign SPFL players exclusively but we also shouldn’t be snubbing them out of domestic elitism. Our two biggest issues are finding guys who can play the volume of games we need and can adapt to our league, common sense in any other business tells you to headhunt competition who are already performing in the same market. We seem to equate they play here to they can only play here, can’t improve in a better set up and they are boring. The success we had previously stripping Hearts, Hibs, Dundee etc for guys who had a few good seasons here was immense in the 90s, I get the market changed. It these still seem less risky than punts from far flung leagues where you have to factor in resettlement, language, family issue, football style etc It’s a view and I’m not saying it would definitely work, what I can say is that our various ‘systems’ for signing in recent years have by and large failed to put a solid core that can deliver success and be evolved naturally year on year on the park. If we don’t at least try something different and be open to demotic signings that are lower risk, more aligned to the league and remove a lot of the potential friction points a new guy has parachuting in then we are just building in risk. No transfer is certain, no signing is guaranteed to be a success but you can manage or mitigate risk to an extent by making the risks calculated. Sadly they have had some of the worst teams, poorest players and terrible seasons I have seen in my time, but they have been conservative in signings, built solid teams and they have been able to as our squads have been bin fires, our structures off field have distracted from the core business of being a football club and we have handed them initiative almost every season before a ball is kicked. The most galling thing isn’t we have lost out on so many trophies it’s that most of the issues are self generated and the opposition are actually dross.
