John Smith

Not a surprise the Ukrainians were looking for sympathy points but can the club not request to hear why a ref who was previously suspended was in charge of such a big game ?

Craig

Cheers David - not listened yet but needed a break from FF 😂

Ally Auld

Decision was horrendous John, but I think it would be a pointless exercise with UEFA. We’ve got bigger problems of our own IMO with the board and this squad 🙃

John Smith

You’re right Ally but it’s tough to take when you’ve lost out on a jackpot because of cheating

John Smith

Jefte looked heartbroken. The manager and players need to get round him and let him know he done nothing wrong. I thought he played well last night and could’ve been a difference maker in a game that wasn’t rigged. Hope he plays at the weekend and gets a goal

Mark Rennie

Who's the exciting young kids?

John Smith

I’m not entirely sure Andrew. Simon mentioned it on the car pod. Either way I don’t understand why he’s allowed to ref in Europe again.

John Smith

He was suspended by Serie A for a number of games after missing a penalty between Torino and Inter which his bosses said even a 2 year old could’ve seen

Alan Cowan

UB need to get the tifosi out calling for Bennetts resignation. This guy takes incompetence to a new level. Any other business the shareholders would be calling for his resignation. Wouldn't know a football if it skelped him on the dial. Hamdump has all the atmosphere of Craigton Crematorium. Any simpleton would know, nowadays, don't start work on building a house until you have everything you need. We're still in a post COVID supply disaster zone. Ask anyone in procurement FFS. You don't need to be a f*****g genius to know that. All this sits at his door Get out before you do anymore damage

Jim McCutcheon

Yes the fans are not happy rightly so imo David 🤷 it may well get worse over the next few weeks I fear ,hopefully things improve they have to

Mr J K Murray

trying to find a word for who are we,born for which kind of life, when a ref can control the game of sport to such an extent, a booking seen now as [for us] a reason to take this person off, after the olympics where the vocation is to some form, kind of perfection, should this not apply to the officals officialising expecially relating to refs, do not want to go on about this squad but it is woeful,

Jim Milne

Unless huge changes are made before now and the end of the window I honestly see us having to compete to finish 2nd. From 2012, then the time and fan support to get to 55 and Seville it's astonishing it's went backwards so quickly. Fans have had enough.

Paul

On the manager, It seems he's beyond reproach by some until assembles an entirely new starting eleven. His tactics, selections, and use of subs are all immune from criticism. He bears no responsibility, yet this is the same man who was rightly praised when he first took charge. But now, he's untouchable? How about improving the players you already have or making the team harder to beat? Adapting the formation to suit the current squad? Starting the players you signed and then subbing them off?

Iain watson

So cerny can't play from the start and do like 60 or 70 mins but can come on at half time when he potentially plays 75mins if game goes to extra time? Manager us losing the plot and sounding like beale now 🙃

Latimer

If the manager doesn't stop dicking Sterling around he'll be the next one asking away. He looked miffed and disinterested when he came on. Watching Tavernier starting in front of you must be soul destroying

John Smith

My preferred choice for chairman would be John Halsted. American. Man of action. Really like the way he speaks. I think he’d get things done

Rona Bluebell

Gutted this morning still. Hard to lift the spirits. The board now have to lift us as we’ve done all we can as fans but there is a limit.

Miguel Sanchez

He was basically stopped from performing duties for 3 days probably a similar slap on the wrists as our refs being put in championship for a week and calling it a day

Dennis Macdonald

Davie, do you think clement is up to the job. We were all excited when he first came, but can honestly say I have serious concerns now.

John Smith

AGM will be fireworks this year I reckon. Hopefully some changes in the guard with the shareholder votes

Graeme Guthrie

The issue is criticising the manager won't achieve anything. Even if he gets sacked, there's the same injured, useless players and no money to replace them.

Scott Christian

The nonsense (among many) on VAR is that a yellow can be checked to be upgraded to a red & a red can be checked to be downgraded to a yellow. However, a yellow leading to a red is out of bounds to check, even when it’s the most “clear and obvious” error.

Scott Christian

I know X/Twitter/FB/Insta et al shouldn’t be consulted on broad opinion, but the mood definitely feels like it’s turning on Clement.

Miguel Sanchez

I think we need to persevere to actually rebuild the squad after years of gross mismanagement however I'm also realistic and I know this club. This makes me fear if a couple of "bodies" are brought in to make up the numbers be it loans or transfers or bringing hagi into the fold the squad will be a mess and if we take a tanking off them at the start of September and start falling away the atmosphere will be awful and baying for blood and I assume the board will bend to toxicity and we're sacking another manager with no CEO / DOF etc and that manager will also want his own players / ideas. It's a horrible outlook and I hope it doesn't come to pass and will show up to try support regardless but I'm struggling to see the earnest hope.

Gareth Williams

@Fourladshadadream has just confirmed on twitter that we have employed an ex-celtic employee as commercial director. This is a massive own goal by the board the day after we're knocked out the CL. They are an absolute joke and can poke it!!

Heart and Hand

He’s in a shit situation but the decisions he makes within that are still subject to criticism. I’m not liking this Lawrence as a 10 thing at all.

Stephen

I am almost at the stage where is pointless wasting more money in this window. We will finish 2nd regardless, be in Europa league group stage and only win a cup if someone else knocks out Celtic. Better spending money on young Scottish talent like Lennon Miller and build them up for the future. Won’t happen as the fans won’t stand for it and Clement needs to protect his own job but I think this would be a better way forward than what we are seeing at the moment.

Trev @JimmyBell_Loyal

Heard the news on the new commercial director?! We’re a fucking laughing stock if that’s true

Brian Auld

The decision fundamentally changed the game. We competed well against a team who obliterated Partizan Belgrade 9-2 and as you said we probably would have won had 11 men been on the park. We’ve been screaming for a rebuild and now we are getting it. I’m not sure why people think you could lose all those players for free and then just bring in lots of new ones given our financial position and needing to live within our means is clearly vital. It saddens me that people are turning already given the situation. Surely it’s more important to stick together rather than turn our back on them?

Alan Cowan

We require experienced football people at the helm, not just another large shareholder

Glen Kane

We're not in a rebuild, we are downsizing dramatically.

andy m

Signing celtic fans as commercial directors now...Exactly what I meant last night, this board are destroying us from within.

Alan Stewart

Absolutely no positives to take from our club at the moment. It feels like 2017 all over again. 55 should have been the catalyst to complete the rebuild of our club and finally get us back to where we belong. The board have made a rip roaring arse of it. Champions league money, Europa league finalists, record sales for Bassey & Patterson and look at the state of our squad. On and off the park we are a laughing stock. I genuinely have no idea how we close the gap with the filth? They have got us exactly where they want us. I see no light at the end of the tunnel. I’m away to pour myself a malt. Totally fed up with it all.

Gareth Williams

Don’t think so mate! Utterly depressing. Time to vote with my feet I’m afraid. Fuck them!

Rona Bluebell

We need an investor of the level of Dermot Desmond and a CEO that can operationally make good day to day decisions. It’s no longer just one area. Honestly, I could weep. Remember before Gerrard left how in front we were in the league and now this? With all our diaspora hasn’t someone made big money???

Russ

Getting a bit tin foil hat with Danilo and other players who aren't ready to play tbh.

Doogz

Just when you thought those calling the shots couldn’t get any worse, they just smash it out the park, clowns.

Scott Christian

I’m confused as to what Clement considers a robust enough player. He made it very clear that he thought fitness levels were shambolic due to poor pre-season yet none of the players look majorly fit to me (albeit only watching on tv so don’t get full sense). He’s happy to play McCausland who’s the proverbial 6 stone dripping wet, yet appears to be super-cautious about lots of others in the squad, Danilo the prime example. I just can’t figure him out and really am yet to be convinced by his management.

Scott Tolmie

I said a few weeks ago on here there was zero chance cifu would go with the obligation to buy and there it is, he will be back next season

Martin Mcinnes

We're basically the 90's version of Celtic, early round of the league cup on Saturday should see youth players, and those needing game time to feature, but we all know it'll be 8-9 starters from last night, with Wright back in the team and Jefte dropping back to LB for Ridvan who will no doubt be out for 5-6 weeks. Stale team and increased apathy with every performance

james whyte

We go to Celtik in 18 days time. Things need upgraded ASAP or it could be Warburton levels of defeat, again. Which, if happens will be the tipping point for those on the fence. Could get messy beyond repair for this board. Scunnered.

William Alston

I wonder if Butland got the "best in class" pish on the plane from Bennett. David I know traditionally we vote with our feet but this may require a more vocal approach as I don't think they will bother if it's 20k or 50k at Hampden

Brian Auld

So do we try to force another regime change in the hope of a benefactor with deep pockets who will use nefarious ways to avoid FFP or just understand they have made mistakes but care about Rangers and it will improve so we bite down on the gumshield and suffer?

Gregg McKee

25k / 30k is wildly optimistic for Saturday mate going by our bus numbers 15k - 20k imo

John Smith

It’s true Colin. That’s the nail in the coffin as far as PR with the supporters is concerned

Stephen

Not sure it’s worth getting worked up about. Doubt the guy is going to destroy his own career to get one over on us. We do a good enough job on our own messing things up.

Christian Turney

Months to go until what? There’s 2 weeks in the window left to sign players on a very limited budget due to last night. We are winning nothing with this current bunch of players after years of negligence. And to top it off we’ve hired a known Celtic fan as a marketing director🤣 Just can’t see anything to be positive about right now with Rangers

Iain Henderson

If there is any crumb to take from last night going forward, it would be good if the club/ league could challenge why VAR cannot intervene in a second yellow scenario. As you say David, that is a game changing incident. We have a perfect example to take to the rule makers on that.

Doogz

Cerny should have started to get best out him, when players are fresh and they looked suspect at the back. Instead manager favoured cautious approach at home rather than go for it with the support behind them. Fortune favours the brave, and a lot are already thinking manager won’t cut it. He has been badly let down with this board but continuing with likes of Lawrence is mind boggling.

John Smith

It’s true Rona. Photos of him in a Celtic tractor and holding the European Cup

John Smith

Our new commercial boss looks like Paul John Dykes

GlasgowBear

Lawrence is absolute pish. Flatters to deceive. Goes hiding in big games and has zero energy. Scores a good goal one in a blue moon against shite.

Rona Bluebell

I meant months of misery until the end of the season and I can will myself into optimism based on very little. Just seen the social media outlets of our new commercial director calling us huns. A new low has indeed been reached.

andy m

On a more positive note, great tune today 👌

Rona Bluebell

He’s called us huns on his social media. I can predict now he won’t last the week. Please let someone have had the sense to have a probationary period put in

Graham Roy

How no search into social media presence is part of our recruitment is beyond me! It’s not as if it hasn’t bit us in the arse before!

Andrew Whiteside

Big two weeks for the club. Agree 100% that they need to give us reason to believe and that will cost money. They got us here they need to get us back. We need 4 quality players in the door with goals in them before the window closes. Even at that they won’t be up to speed for going to that lot in 1st September.

Alan Cowan

Maybe get Neil Lennon as DoF.

Callum Gordon

Do you think the club could have possibly put these non league games on the season ticket in a way to appease the fans thus making it more likely of a higher attendance? I know there would’ve been a hit on gate money but swings and roundabouts and all that ( possibly a gain on the PR front too ) sorry if this has already been mentioned in comments.

Brian dowie

If the game went to extra time last night Cerny would have played 70 minutes. Why not start him and try get a lead then bring on a sub. Mclausand sadly just isn’t good enough.

maccalsa

The manager said his usage was in line with the physios recommendations... the people who know how to get the best out of a player physically

Craig Hart

For the first time in my life, I'm seeing genuine lifelong supporters checking out. There's that little to hang onto at the moment. Sad times. We are quite unrecognizable.

Doogz

Laughable, he put him on for second half, he expected game to be tight it could went extra meaning he thought he had 75 minutes in him, majority of fans thought it was wrong call when teams were announced.

maccalsa

No because that "benefactor" will be an asset stripper. Do you want to risk another. Craig White, Charles Green with characters such as Mike Ashley in tow?

stephen

Are the board trying to see how far they can push us? It honestly feels a bit like this.

maccalsa

Yeah looks like Clement will be gone before Halloween sadly, enough fans of the told you so variety starting to pipe up that he should be doing more already

Derek Robertson

"If that's the way he walks, great , fine " - it is clearly the way he walks , all you have to do is check footage of him walking before he got the injury and it is clear

maccalsa

Truthfully that's the one thing from last night's press conference that I found Jarring. "I won't name the players" no please do phil, I'm not sure to who you are referring

Jim Milne

I seriously don't think 2nd is guaranteed whether we strengthen or not. Aberdeen don't have Europe and will be stronger IMO, we couldn't score against Hearts who shipped 3 to Dundee. We have 1 for striker and struggle to score. Including the end of the season and start we've won 7 in 23 games. It's hard to change that form.

Brian Rae

I'm all for hiring the best person for the job but the supposed new commercial director appears to be a supporter of them and a bitter one at that. Historical tweets referring to us as "huns" etc should've been picked up during a normal vetting process but like everything else at the club, it has likely been botched. This fucking board and their immediate predecessors have done as much, if not more damage in a short space of time as any supporter of them ever could if they were running our club. I'm done, they need to be chased.

Robbie McCarroll

Shame VAR didn’t try to upgrade the ‘elbow’ to a red would have gave the ref a chance to change the decision to a yellow for simulation…maybe they should have a VAR loophole for such cases.

Robert White

Same as 2012. Noone with the cash, and several near billionaires were mentioned....wants the media hatchet job. The tax inspections. The politicians getting stuck in. It's only us

Spoon

I think it’s worse, Aberdeen of the 80s watching football chalnge and missing the bus while harking back to the glory days that as years go by fade into memory. Bar the season we got the league, which now looks like the outlier we have been bad on and off field. The seeds of this season were sown when we didn’t back GVB and then snaked him out the door with Beale. It seems increasingly likely the board bought into Beales mantra that he would retain the old guard and they liked that better than Gio wanting proper players. We are shell shocked now and it’s no wonder every fan has a different take on the problems, they are so systemic and widespread it’s hard to see what we should focus on fixing first.

Brian Auld

Exactly. Not for me. I’d rather be patient and understand where we are rather than the entitled “but we are Rangers and we should win everything” which has gotten us absolutely nowhere. No more chaos chasing a quick fix.

Colin Mathie

These league cup games should be midweek, 2 games in and the league is disrupted already.

Graham Roy

I had a vision of him in full Celtic kit with bit of straw in his mouth and straw hat sitting on a tractor! 😂😂

Brett

Is there any way to ask Clement about a potential change in tactics - to drop the 10 for a 6? Surely he must see how badly an immobile 10/Lawrence is affecting us and opening us up? You can even name drop me as the man with the question if the manager gets angry to deflect from you 😂

Greig Neilson

They (the board) are going to have to pull a new investment rabbit out of a tiny hat, for the sake of next summers transfer window. I doubt the appetite is there for a share issue amongst the support so it would need to be stadium naming rights or something like that. Absolutely grim.

David Mackie

All our current problems stem from bad decisions made by the board over 3 years and our current Chairman Rangers man or not has been a part of every one of those decisions. They have to find a solution unfortunately I can't see how they will I say that based on there track record, they may be good business men in certain fields but collectively they are incompetent at running a modern football club. If this continues would not surprise me one bit they make the manager the scapegoat to try and hide once more there failings.

Peter Hosie

4 lads seems to have confirmed this is true, are H&H able do the same as I’m wary of screenshots? A simple thumbs up would do please 😡

adam houston

The board are in for a shock drop anymore points before we play them the protests will start

Graham Roy

It doesn’t need to be either this or that! We have the right to demand the board do better! They have wasted millions over the past 4 years in particular with a handful of trophies to show for it. They need to appoint a proper football CEO and let them run the club. Until we do that we will continue to sleep walk into another screw up!

Al-WATP

Completely agree Douglas, he absolutely went with a cautious approach and I don’t understand this reluctance to play new players

Alan Cowan

Id vote for Dame Michelle Mone. She's made a fortune selling coverings for tits and fa**ies Plenty to cover in our boardroom

JimGLW

I always find the daily pod cathartic and measured and important after a bad result. Nice one David. We're all scunnered but your tone definitely helps.

Graeme McLeod

If the manager can't see that his preferred tactics don't work with the players available to them, or just is too stubborn to change the tactics, that doesn't say a lot for him.

Alan Baxter

Isn’t part of the reason that the crowds will be lower for cup/european games is the automatic CCS scheme isnt in operation at Hampden. So people have to choose to buy one as opposed to automatically getting one and then feeling more obliged to go

Brett

Agreed I’m just worried that he is so caught up in what he thinks Octobers football will look like that he is missing what today’s football looks like, and won’t change his style in case it interrupts his proposed plans. Or he is just wilfully ignorant to our issues. Not sure what is worse tbh.

Andy Sladen

If this is the case and he won’t change tactics then he is another Warburton and we will be doomed to failure and mediocrity. Right now I don’t see an alternative to this!

Andy MacArthur

Did we try to do too big a rebuild too soon? We clearly don’t have the resources to pay similar fees to even last season. Therefore how can we replace the players we are losing? To go into this season with a weaker squad than last is unacceptable. Apathy will turn to anger soon enough and the board are running out of time to put this right.

Craig

The reality is we are pretty fucked at the moment and it will get worse before it improves. For clarity I do believe Clement will deliver as long as we stay the course or he doesn’t get too pissed off and walks.

Scott Hamilton

Everything about the manager, team and club right now comes across as unprepared and mediocre Feels like some of the players from Pre-Gerrard are better than what we have now

Graham McIntyre

Thanks David for your thoughts and insight - I agree with them and listening to you helps me keep it all in perspective. You’re realistic and honest and that’s what we fans need. I also think PC was a tad disrespectful in his responses to you. I am not convinced or confident in him anymore. Tav seems disinterested to me - and if we’re not getting the attacking benefits from him why should we keep putting up with his lack of defense. I thought Soutar had a good match last night and must have heard the recent podcasts lol Ridvan is just not cut out for Scottish football and Tom Lawrence appears arrogant and is ineffective. My other concern is that Jack Butland body language and general demeanour in matches indicates to me that he is not happy here. Finally - the ref last night - when he made that decision - it took time and although I haven’t got it recorded I thought that he did not make any move towards calling a foul immediately after the tackle - there seems to have been a delayed reaction ? Anyway - let’s hope we can shift TC and Hagi and get another couple of players in! WATP

Allan Osborne

So, we appoint some Tim to a marketing role who has a history of calling us huns, then sack him within days when others do the job the club should have done in the first place. It's bad enough employing one of them in the first place (they would NEVER employ a Bear) but one who's as bitter as this one is beyond a fucking joke. Our board are like a bowling club committee in over their heads. I'm beyond angry now, this is a fucking joke!

Ross Hunter

Think you’re being generous with the 30k/25k shout for Saturday unfortunately.

Ben mackinnon

Never felt so disenfranchised with the club before as I do now. I’m only 30 and plenty folk will have seen it worse but there’s literally nothing right now that gives me any sense of positivity. Between the boards rolling shitshow the past few years whether it be bad decisions or poor investment, player contracts, lack communication from the club on all aspects and treating the support like children. That’s just to name a few. The stadium debacle just tops everything off. The board are sucking the life out the support and ruining us as an institution. I’m normally always glass half full but I can’t right now

Alastair McGeoch

Bennet’s tenure is shaping up as a string of commitments being made to Gerrard, Gio and Clement that he has not delivered on. It was Rangers (I assume Bennet) that gave the nod on the “rebuild” messaging which again has not been delivered on and I suspect his timeline on when we get back to Ibrox will also not be delivered on. We are far down the path of becoming to Celtic what Aberdeen are to us (and Aberdeen have a better player trading model than we do). Bennet doesn’t appear capable of running a successful Rangers but he owns the club so he’s not going anywhere soon. It leaves us hoping Clement can be the one that breaks the cycle but even he is starting to pile up the question marks on tactics and player selection. Once the apathy takes hold it will take something significant to break it and I can’t see anything coming soon. To sum up…FFS Rangers!

Heart and Hand

The other way round Andy and more damaging - anger turns to apathy and that’s even worse. Angry fans still care - apathetic ones stop doing so.

Al-WATP

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

David Kiltie

One moment pre season which may be haunting us is Raskin’s injury in the Netherlands. If Raskin could be the 6 with Barron and Diomande as the 8s that could be a better balance. The only upside of last night’s calamity is that at least we know where we stand in terms of Europe. August was always going to be a wild month in terms of comings and goings. Let’s see what happens between now and 1st September.

Neil Anderson

Best tune on a daily update yet. Nicely done.

David Innes

I’m keeping the faith too despite all the red flags - mainly because the alternative (sacking another manager mid season) is unthinkable

Dave

The theme tune for today’s DU should’ve been Ry Cooder’s theme music from Southern Comfort.

Scott Christian

BTW- nice one Martyn checking up on your pal 👍

Rose Mcloughlin

I am at home recovering from a big operation so my ticket is available ...normally several friends or family are ready to use it but so far no takers for the european games...compare that to a european Ibrox night ..its such a difference but no doubt must be a struggle for the players and manager too ..maybe we need to get ready to fight this apathy and give the team our 100% support..there are rocky days ahead but hopefully we get through them.

Rose Mcloughlin

You all at heart and hand keep me going..thanks My op was the 6th aug first minute I opened my eyes I asked for my mobile the nurse said its nice for your family to get a wee message from you...which ofcourse I did but I really wanted to see how the game was going..went to sleep happy that night ...highs and lows. 🔴⚪🔵👍

8luenose1872

The situation of the game wasn't right to play danilo?? Honestly clements statements are getting ridiculous

8luenose1872

The club needs to come out and man up and admit this stadium fiasco has severely effected our transfer policy this window to put us out our misery so we can vent then just accept it and move on. The not knowing what to expect and at the same time hoping a few will come in when probably thats not the case is the worst thing atm. The board are a bunch of shitebags too scared to talk to the fans.

Darren Littlejohn

I hate Hampden but I’ll go because that’s where my team is but we need back to Ibrox ASAP. Any real update on this?

Stephen Fraser

Very relatable pod, David - certainly in terms of the general feeling. I think there are a few things that are true at the same time; 1) We absolutely were robbed last night by the ref's call and the Kiev boys were playing him like a fiddle, 2) The board and the manager are digging their heels in with a few things and possibly hoping the fans just buy it, 3) Playing at Hampden is a genuine leveller, to the point where I think we'll be better when we're away from home & 4) As we've all said, and to be fair to Clement, as he's said - we need to be patient if we've any chance of recovering. The latter one is key for me. If we as a group start to over-react while the team is trying to develop then we'll play a part in all of this. A smaller part maybe, but we have the ability to influence. With that said, I totally share the feeling of being deflated. My short term solution is to stay off the socials, so my only Rangers content has been through here and via CJ & Stevie.

Peter Hosie

Can I ask if we were at the sfa and spfl last year to firm up penalties for clubs not fulfilling their away quota as they’ve done it again ?

Ross Murphy

Unbelievable decision from the referee which totally changed the momentum of the match. Worth also saying I thought the Kiev player's continual play-acting, rolling around the ground in supposed agony slapping the turf whilst teammates beckoned on the physios was an embarrassment to the game and should be clamped down on by referees. No wonder rugby fans mock us.
