Adriana here, back with the next episode of R is for Rangers.

I am joined this week by Hoggy, who will be joining me on not one, but two episodes revolving around the letter D.  In part one, we will be discussing in some detail what most fans agree is one of the darkest days in the history of our club, and a series of events that any new fan of Rangers really should learn about.  Hoggy shares his wealth of knowledge as well as some heartbreaking eyewitness accounts.  A fascinating conversation, and you can learn more via these links:

Well done guys, you gave this subject the importance and the respect it deserves. Harrowing and upsetting to listen to it, but it's something that every Rangers fan should know about. Not just Rangers fans, maybe fans of other clubs who try to use our pain as a joke should listen to this and realise why some things are more important than club rivalry. I'll hold off my thoughts on E till the second episode on D, it feels wrong to focus on anything other than those affected by our darkest day. It must have been really hard to record this one, my thanks for doing justice to such a terrible and tragic story.

John Smith

This episode was particularly poignant tonight for me. Just found out my best mate of 20 years passed away on Tuesday. Thank you for talking about this not just in the importance of remembering those who died but also those it impacted

David Mason

It feels a bit weird that I sent my Dad’s story to Hoggy this week and then the disaster is discussed in this episode so soon. I definitely shed a wee tear listening to my Dad’s words. Thank you so much to Adriana and Hoggy, this was a very emotional episode but so respectfully done ❤️ My thoughts and prayers go to Matt and all the countless others affected ❤️

John Smith

It was a beautiful listen David. Grief is the worst feeling in the world and I have nothing but praise for the way you handled it 💙

Adriana Spina

Thank you so, so much for sharing your Dad’s story, David. He wrote with such clarity and heartfelt humanity, it was an honour to be able to feature his story. Certainly a sign from the universe that you chose to share it with Hoggy this week! Thank you also for your kind words, that’s very much appreciated 💙❤️

Adriana Spina

Oh John, I’m so sorry for your loss. Thank you for your kind words, and condolences to you at this hard time 💙

Adriana Spina

Thank you so much, David. I really appreciate that you feel we were able to treat the events with sensitivity, it was an emotional piece to record for sure. And you are absolutely right - many people could learn a lot from Jock Stein and his colleagues’ actions on that day. 💙

Paul Kerr

Thanks for sharing your Dad's account of the day with us David. Truly harrowing.

Paul Kerr

Thanks for setting aside a full episode to give this the attention it deserves. I'm the same age as Hoggy and my first trip to Hampden as a kid gave me a bit of a scare, I assume it was the same for most of us. We'd been used to a redeveloped Ibrox and going into section J was a world away from that.

Hoggy

Thanks Paul - yeah, it wasn't pretty. I was allowed to go to games myself from about 1988 (aged 13). And it wasn't safe - looking back with 20/20 hindsight

Hoggy

David, you emailed me last week and it was really weird (I know it's just a coincidence). I wanted your permission before using the story - and it was hard to read the stories. The premise of this pod is "what is it like to be new to Rangers?"...... well, this is a story that needs to be told, so to personalise it with eye witness accounts is exactly what is required. Thank you for helping me do that.

Hoggy

John, I'm sorry for your loss mate. Just remember you have a large and extended Rangers family behind you and supporting you

Hoggy

Thanks David. Our history is important - the good, the bad, the tragic. All of it needs to be laid bare

Donna MacK

This pod was delivered beautifully by you both. It doesnt matter how many times you read about the disaster - it’s just so harrowing. Adriana and Hoggy - you delivered people’s stories and memories with such respect. ❤️🤍💙

Dougie

😞❤️🤍💙😞

Adriana Spina

Thank you so much, Donna, that’s really kind of you. We did our best to treat the matter with the utmost sensitivity, I’m so glad that came across 💙❤️ thank you so much for listening!! X

This was excellent.

Well done Adriana and Hoggy , the podcast was delivered with upmost respect to all the victims of the darkest days in our history.
