Hoggy is back with less Christmas cheer than hoped!

Major focus on the League Cup Final, VAR, exactly what should be our approach in managing the authorities in terms of decision making, are we too quick to double down on players (or everything) and too many pints in 1999 meaning someone missed their first goal at Ibrox!

If you want to come on the show, hoggy@heartandhand.co.uk.

Have a great Christmas everyone

Do you know what Hoggy ? It IS a Merry Christmas. It feels like we’ve turned a corner, and we can start enjoying the football again. Merry Christmas everyone 🎄

John Smith

Adidas would defo be my close 2nd

David McBurney

Totally agree with you regards Phil still being a dead man walking. Jan 2nd is a must win for him or else it's curtains for him but I feel very confident l that we'll do that mob

Gavin Foster

You’re spot on with your changeover of the establishment club. We need a strategy to rebalance the influence. I don’t want us to have advantage, but we have always been a more ethical and sane thinking club outside of Murray. And he was not all bad. I want us to regain our respect either the so called smaller clubs. I want our opinion to be respected. The other Glasgow club with the magic carpet have none of these things. There’s a difference between bribery and influence/respect.

Danny Clark

Could we have a weekly RTV Var room type show with a retired grade 1 ref (preferably English/non Scottish)to talk through ALL talking points in SPFL every week? The more balanced the better to keep the pressure on with less opportunities for the “biased” brigade.

Tamus

Sorry hoggy That wasnt incompetence That was cheating

James McSween

100% an unconscious bias against us from SFA and SPFL that’s been even more prevalent since 2012. Any fan that doesn’t think that is kidding themselves on. What we really need in the game today is another dodgy VAR decision against us so the club can ramp it up with SFA and referees. Referees should be FT and they should be enticing foreign FIFA/UEFA standard officials to come to SPFL. Clement is a dead man walking and if we don’t beat them in January then he should be sacked. A draw isn’t acceptable.

Stegz

Hoggy, your yin and yang argument only makes sense if there is a normal distribution of (let’s say) “affiliations”. It doesn’t hold up if there has been affirmative action. You know they have made sure the SFA and SPFL are filled with place men. It stands to reason they have done the same with the referees.

Steven Renton

I don't get how anyone outside of the DFB faithful could objectively look at that and not describe it as blatant cheating.

Paul Kerr

Happy Christmas to you and the family Hoggy.

Simon Botterill

Does not hold up in Scotland with two very dominant but different club mindsets. Even look at our response this week. Celtic old guard doing the job they are asked to do, us nout. Also is that not the assistant ref saying it's a wee penalty??

Simon Botterill

We are by far the worse club around on game management. It's stems from PC (Gio before him) who come from countries and leagues were the level of standards and integrity are much higher, they don't want to see or believe or understand the true environment they are working in. You combine that with a completely unsuited on field captain in Tav, we have no control around matches. Those in management roles are not suited to our challenge.

Stegz

It’s a good point. I think back to helicopter Sunday where Gerry Britton has basically admitted that if Scott McDonald had passed to him instead of shooting he’d have deliberately stuck it over the bar. How many Rangers fans do we know who have stuck it into us over the years? Haven’t seen it happen much to them.

Alan Stewart

Merry Christmas to you and the family Hoggy. Thanks for the content over the last 12 months.

Stegz

(I’m sure that information came from an interview with Scott McDonald himself)

Stegz

Maybe PC will have a better mindset now he’s seen how it really is up here.

Simon Botterill

I think he is seeing this month on month and slowing getting at peace with the true challenge. We just have to embrace it not shrink anyway. I think if PC can really tackle this and Stewart has something about him we can see simple quick progress. Tav has to step down, he was an exceptional player for us, a fine man but not built for being a Rangers captain in this era. His on field position is also a real problem. Hopefully this is addressed as part of standing up to Celtic and the league. All very basic stuff as part of ongoing strategic review at your work.

Simon Botterill

It's just their mindset. Embrace going against it, don't expect for it be ok on the night. i.e. stop Kasper S carry on at penalties (he would not be allowed to do that in Europe), use the media etc. None of us what to behave like what is required now but we have left it too late to stop their mindset. I question if we actually have game management meetings or consultants involved.

JimGLW

Hoggy, I genuinely want to hear a business pod from you mate haha Really good sensible stuff. Have a great xmas mate

Listening to this Saturday afternoon. -30C here in Canada and hoped the game would warm me up. Ha. Firstly, Merry Christmas to everyone and the High family and all the best for 2025. The Refs Hoggy, the refs are atrocious. I watched the Motherwell vs. Kilmarnock game last night. The red card was an absolute disgrace. Even with VAR he doubled down. At this rate there won't be enough refs to run a weekend card of games if Collum suspends them. I've always thought the same as you Hoggy, but I'd add an asterisk now. I don't think deep down the VAR team didn't give a penalty because they're Celtic fans. I think it was because Connor & Muir thought they could say it inconclusive when it was. The 2nd part to that being they are so scared of the scrutiny they go under giving a decision against them. Especially a potential cup winning decision. The last time and I think only red card they had last season Rogers went ballistic and got a 1 game ban. It worked, that on top of their fans behavior towards officials in the past, their board mentioning rangers penalties at AGMs when they've had about 10 to 3 against us since 2016. Like someone said Nick Walsh will likely be the Ref, someone I thought 4 years ago would be the best Referee in Scotland by now. Sadly he is shit scared to give decisions against them and talks to our players like they are shit on his shoe. I'm not sure where football as a whole needs to go with this, but firstly is suggest full-time refs by using Neil Doncaster a salary.

100% on the audio A mistake is not seeing the incident or seeing it and misinterpreting what happened They saw it and knew it was in the box. The audio is telling. They chose not to give it We need to be clear on language here when discussing this, it was not a mistake it was a decision The question is why? For me the audio confirmed all my worst fears and the why is because decades of systematic pressure from Celtic managers and board members have corrupted the integrity of officiating. They are simply terrified and decided not to give a decision against Celtic Re Maxwell, he is not a serious individual. We should be speaking with other clubs. We should make the point Collum is obv serious and is making the most of being full time. He cannot do that with someone like Maxwell above him. We should be working on him and Mulraney ultimately going for their flippancy this week

As a long time exile in England, listening to heart and hand and these pods keeps me connected to a community that are so passionate about Rangers - it keeps me sane! I was lucky enough to have a season ticket for 4 seasons from Helicopter Sunday through to Manchester in 2008. I do miss going every second weekend however given how much shit I get at home off my wife if I just put football on the TV these days, not having a season ticket probably keeps me safe from physical harm! I do go to the odd Sheffield Utd game and Chesterield game (where I actually met a couple of Union Beats) but it’s not the same. That said, I have got a ticket for the Manchester Utd end in Jan which will be the first time I’ve seen rangers in the flesh since Warburton. How time flies! Happy Holidays all!

Kirk Guthrie

Merry Christmas to you and yours Hoggy!
