I sort of hate when you use a player as the thumbnail cos when I see it, I assume the news of the day is that said player has picked up a season ending injury

Kirk Guthrie

Fuck porteous and his shit-eating grin, guy can suck a fat lemon

Martin Boyd

Celtic wouldn’t dare use the coin throwing clown as an excuse to ban Rangers fans from their dump. Everytime we play there it rains coins down it would show rank hypocrisy. Oh wait you couldn’t mark their neck with a blowtorch. As for transfers , just give me a centerback who will head the ball away , please.

Graham Roy

Porteous a no for me he can’t be trusted in high pressure games to stay on the park! And he is a fud! Evans would be a good signing and bring some stability to the defence.

Greg Cameron

Celtic are still trying to find the culprit who skelped Ricksen with a lighter

Jonny Burnside

Think it would be worth bringing the prayer group back, given the last few years of disaster, although I think even the late Billy Graham would have his work cut out in saving Rangers!!!

Brian Rae

Jonny Evans doesn't suit how we want to play either. If you look at the type of central defenders the manager has had at his other clubs, they were dominant, fast and could play out of defence. Sadly, we can probably only afford a player with 1 or 2 of those attributes if we're lucky. After what Koppen has said with regards to recruitment, I'll be amazed if we're looking at anyone from England.

On Europe David don’t think the idea is we write off Europe however winning the league consistently and having a more robust team would give us a platform that starts at a different point. I refuse to accept that it has to be one or the other in terms of domestic v Europe. The street smarts we have gained in Europe and the way the set up has removed the elite to a world of their own gives decent teams a chance at a run in Europe these days. Our naivety in the past cost us big time, I dont think it’s beyond us to buy guys who can do a job in both competitions or set up our team in a way we can have a solid core in Scotland and tweak it for Europe. The demand from clubs for our players should be a sobering reminder that when we identify players and they don’t work out it’s not all simply on them when it doesn’t work out. Our lack of developing players in recent years is very poor and looks to be continuing with Clement. My own view is that the days of brining guys in and improving them through impur better coaches and facilities are gone, if we are just buying and selling to try and trade up the. It’s going to be a hard future for us given our financials and league. We must be far better at nurturing talent and must stop trying to change players or make them utility guys, players like King or Sterling are being ruined by not getting a pathway, steady slot and defined role. If you’re an emerging talent why would you come here if we aren’t giving you a platform, winning trophies or such ? The transfer business will be very interesting as it is likely to indicate at least the short to medium term future of the club.

Great tune 2 of my favourite gigs Radiohead and sparklehorse at the barras and sparklehorse at king tuts

Billy Forrester

Defo yes on Porteous, we need a defender like him in the SPL, I said at time he was at hibs we should sign him

Heart and Hand

I dunno. In my lifetime peroids of sustained domestic success married with European performance are rare. For both the OF to be honest.

I think the game has moved on considerably in terms of how coaching and set up varies. I think we used to try and strong arm Europe like we did domestically. I think the style of football was so far apart that it was almost impossible to be good at both. As players become more like athletes and coaching is more universal, professional football is more aligned regardless of location I don’t believe it’s beyond us to do both. I get the financial argument you make and would never write it off however qualifying as Scottish champions each year and then doing Ok in Europe I don’t believe is beyond the club. I think our ability in recent years to hold our own shows that. I also believe that instead of following football trends and Christmas tree set ups, false 9s and shadow strikers we could break the mold and go back to solid 442 and have joy. I might be wrong but I am bored watching us chase the modern football dream every ‘pep lite’ team does slavishly following the trends and not playing the league we exist in. It’s a view mate, I have no crystal ball today it would work! Having I started watching the team in the very early 80s and it seemed our football and Europa was miles apart, a different game, I think modern football is far narrower in terms of style and tactics with most using the same set up or a variant and it’s become very samey and based more on player ability or the edge you get from proper coaching. I think given our own position in our league we have the set up to be competitive here and do enough to reap some reward financially in Europe, the gap between what we need to do locally and there just isn’t as big as we make out.

Steven Links

Am I missing something here? My thoughts are that there’s no money in Europa League compared to CL. To have a great chance of qualifying for CL you have to become champions of Scotland. You think that other mob care how well they do in Europe everytime they’re guaranteed £40M? With the current system (unfortunately for us atm) do well domestically, you carry being successfully domestically! Let’s build a squad to win the league, then worry about Europe.

Falconhoof

Very jealous man. I was late to Sparklehorse. He has some great albums. Good morning spider is probably my favourite.

Steven Links

A shorter way of putting it - you scoop more money for winning the SPL than you do the Europa Cup.

Heart and Hand

But how do we build that squad to win the league with no money? And the EL is worth 15-20m. What happens if we miss out on that?

Steven Links

I honesty think (with clever business though…) we can get in the much needed tougher, taller, stronger etc 4 or 5 players in the next 2 windows. The difficult part I guess is knowing when to keep and when not to with the others. Sure we could miss out on Europa qualification, but I doubt it. A good mixture of skill, physicality and mentality is what every club desires. We score ok on the first but not too great on the latter 2 - but surely we can afford that to at least compete again. Bad decisions from the top has filtered down obviously…let’s hope for change.

Scott Tolmie

If they have safety concerns then surely they won't want any tickets.

Steven Links

Totally agree. Been thinking this for years now, especially the last few. You win the league, European success will follow (and by that I mean CL proper!) I personally don’t care if we get pumped in the CL. I’d take that all day if it meant winning the league regularly! Sheesh…there’s worse teams in the CL than in Europa and worse teams in Europa than the Conference! 🤷🏻‍♂️

Stephen

Problem is if we spend £10 million on players to try and win the league Celtic could go out and spend £30 million and we would be back to square one. We need to work out why we don’t win Champions League qualifying games but do well against better teams in the Europa League. Sure Dynamo Kiev are bottom of the Europa table this season but thrashed us in the playoff. Qualifying for European competition is the key for winning the league in the future unfortunately

Spoon

I wouldn’t be trying to spend my way out that’s the point. I would be rebuilding the club built on coaching and developing players. Our problem is we have been trying to buy our way back while financially hamstrung and against an opponent who can out spend us. We need to be better at developing players, spotting local talent and taking it from slightly raw to effective then selling it. Make no mistake in the world, even the Uk food chain we are a feeder club and must sell on. If we simply expect to out spend and win then why aren’t we beating the others in the league ? Football isn’t about pure spend it’s about how you spend and how you use your resources to their maximum. That’s what the club and this manager isn’t doing.

Stephen

Definitely agree that coaching and scouting needs to improve but developing players take time and patience. Neither of which our fans have. A big problem we will have is if we get a good player like Igamane we will need to sell him if the right offer comes in. Celtic have the luxury of not having to sell their best players at an inconvenient time. They always get to sell them in a position of strength. Also, we don’t give players time to adapt to Scottish football. Let’s be honest, Cortes has been written off by most already when really we can’t expect a wide player to come straight in and work out how to unlock a 7 man defence when we play St Johnstone etc. These things are part of development and we simply don’t stand for it unless it works straight away.

Jim Milne

I can't believe people would consider Ryan Porteous. He took great delight in ripping the piss out of our players, our manager, and our club. An absolute arsehole of a player. I'd rather play Dessers in defence than sign Porteous. Less chance of own goals with Dessers too!

Spoon

Disagree Cortes is the epitome of the wrong type of signing, committing to buy a guy from half way around the world who is injured at a price point we could have got value locally is madness. Our snobbery for local produce is holding us back in my opinion.

Stephen

Fair point but we are stuck with him and have to try and develop him to be more suitable for our game. Buying Yilmaz instead of Doig was dreadful business too so I get your point. I would have a whole team of Scottish players but I genuinely can’t think of any in this league that would be starters. Even Lennon Miller would cost similar to Cortes etc. The other thing we don’t know is how these SPFL players deal with pressure at a big club. We have just seen Aberdeen completely collapse at the first sign of trouble and most of the players from these clubs won’t have played in Europe very often. There has to be a balance between both

Graham Jones

Evan’s is too old, and Weir was 23 before he started playing professional, so I understand people being sentimental because he’s northern Irish, but he’s not where we were with eir and we need a better fit. I don’t want any executive director suggesting players. We did that with Murray and it doesn’t work. It just costs money and it forms a power struggle in the club. We need an experienced player who can play two or three positrons at the back with some knowledge of the game in the UK, but not a 37b year old who has struggled away in a poor Man Utd defence. Very has played his way out of a permanent move, just like Sima. They love the club but they would never be sold to us unless we could pony up the cash, and we’re not a cash rich club right now. The aim is to get there over a few seasons, but we are a fair bit away from it. Our golden ticket could turn out to be Igamane in the summer if he keeps up his form, but that’s months away. I think we need two who can late defence, one who can play two in the back and the other who can play also in midfield. If we can see a deal with Dessers out and one more forward in then that would be decent business. Six weeks ago our transfer business needs were different, but the circumstances have changed.

G Calder

The European football paradox . European teams humiliate other Scottish teams playing a European style of football . Why does it not work for us ?!! The only reason I can think of is the referees here don’t allow it ? Re Dani & baptism .. With Brazil’s population now rising to 31% Protestant .. Is it now time we set up supporters clubs ect there ?? 😂😂😂😂 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷

Spoon

Time to stop being cheap when it comes to Scottish players. Buy local, rebuild relationships, make shots that are percentage plays not punts. Buying loc you take away a lot of the settling issues, so they adapt to game here, etc we keep the money in our game and who knows we might even grow our influence and build some relations. I refuse to believe that we can’t find value locally and develop it with less risk than guys like Cortes or the young boy we got from Milan. What was the point of even bringing that young boy here to never play, how are we developing him ? Yes we might get some short term pain developing local talent but I can buy into that far more than punt after punt to satisfy each new concept manager. We have been chasing that dream with diminishing funds to no avail.

Stace1ofthePeople

Couldn't agree more. The 'tackles' he put in against a couple of our players were verging on assault and could have seriously injured them. Hated us with a passion and an average defender at best. Doesn't deserve to be anywhere near a club like ours or wear our jersey.

Re Danilo baptism, We could possibly do with a little help from the man above these day on away games 🙏🏻🤔😀😂 watp
