We’re currently preparing the next episode of R is for Rangers and could use your help.  The next episode is about the letter G and, as you would expect, there are LOADS of players we could talk about.  We have selected a few to talk about in detail, but I’d like you to tell us about your favourite goals (G is for Goals, after all!) from any player with a G surname.

Pop your favourite G player goals in the comments, tell me why they’re remarkable and Gary and I will pick a handful to read out.  I look forward to reading your suggestions!

Scott

Any of Gaza’s goals vs Aberdeen at Ibrow to secure 8 in a row.

Scott

Goldson at the Girodome to beat ‘them’

GlasgowBear

Absolutely has to be Joey Garner’s late winner against Patrick Thistle, which sparked a pitch invasion 😂 boy have we been through some times

Graeme Strachan

Gough 2-2 v filth 1987! Bouncing--I was 12...

David Herd

Richard Gough' s last minute equaliser v Celtic in 1987 the loudest roar ever. John Greig scoring against Celtic in 1978 while almost the entire Celtic team were arguing with the referee about a penalty they never got. That was the funniest goal ever.

Scott Kirkwood

So many to pick from but one I think is very underrated was Barry McKay's against Celtic at Hampden in the semi final. An absolute screamer that lead to be breaking my foot and ending up 2 rows Infront, worth every hour I waited in the a&e after the game

Gary Nisbet

Gazza’s second goal v the Sheep 8IAR game had everything. Skill, perseverance, top drawer finish and the celebration on top!

John Smith

Tory Gillick’s goal in the 1942 Southern League Cup Final. A wonderful piece of historical footage and a sublime finish that just looks incredible in black and white

John Smith

Also John Greig’s screamer against Motherwell in 1975

Graeme McG

Not a goal as such, it’s from a training session back in the day when we used the old Patrick cricket ground to train. There was a wee guy constantly running back and forth behind were the goal was and Gazza pings a shot from about 30 yards and hits the kid square on the side of the head and he goes flying. So gazza goes and gets him a can of coke and a bag of crisps wee word with his folks etc. About 20 minutes later he does it again from about 40 yards. This time he puts his hands on his hips and shouts “You’re doing that on purpose now! Cmon man”. Still raises a chuckle to this day!

The Goalie, Andy Goram. All those Old Firm games it was like we had an extra man. For a man of his size, and often didn't seem fit by football standards but man could he move. Out of all his saves the one I most remember was the night at Parkhead when he saved Van Hooijdonk's penalty, immediately pumped his fist then pushed players into positions for their corner. Any other goalie that night would've conceded 5 easy. He was that good Tommy Burns said ".....write on my tombstone, Andy Goram broke my heart". Best Rangers Goalie ever for me.

Davie Stuart

Can I include Jorg Albertz free kick v Them in 1997. Can watch that on YouTube all day 😍

Stewart Robertson

Stéphane Guivarc'h v. St Johnstone. 2 goals on his debut. Back in the day when players didn’t “need time to settle in”.

Luke

Goldson’s last minute winner versus Killie in the 19/20 season opener. In recent history, we seem to be the team conceding goals in the final minutes so it’s always amazing when we actually score one that matters (why did Man United have to score that goal last week). Big Connor, away day madness at Rugby Park.. can’t beat it!

John Mclevy

Gazza goal at their midden they were all singing about Gazza being a fat b……Gazza then scores and runs over to the bears in the corner it was brilliant

Graeme Smith

Gough 87. Graham Roberts and all that. After the tifo at the recent OF game, I made my son watch the you tube highlights. The greatest rendition of TBB (in fact any football chant) of all time. Believe it was Chris Morris rolling about the deck as ball nestled in the net.

Chris Gibson

Rino Gattuso would be a fun one to hear about. To me, he's always the one that got away when you think about what he accomplished after he left us. I remember when we knew he was leaving and scored a belter against Bietar Jerusalem - I knew we'd regret letting him go.

Andy Rodgers

Lee McCulloch’s (Jig) near post header against the paraffin lamp’s at the Chamber of Secrets

Jim Milne

Advocaat was more stubborn than needed. The way he treated Albertz was criminal at times.

Steven Elder

The obvious Gazza ones have already been mentioned, but he scored a cracker the day we beat Hibs 7-0 and he got booked for booking the ref. Also shows referees have always been rotten.

Andrew Barrie

It's already been mentioned, but Goldson's last-minute bullet header away at Killie. Absolute carnage ensued

Robert Thorburn

Goram. Plenty of great saves against them and the whole ‘Andy Goram broke my heart’ quote after a couple of world class saves v them. It could be argued at that for a period he was the best goalkeeper in the world (hence The Goalie).

David Baillie

The first match I ever attended was Scotland 1 Italy 0. November 65. A World Cup qualifier at Hampden. John Greig smashed a late winner into the bottom corner following a typical slide rule pass from Baxter. There were 100,000 in attendance and 5 (that’s five 🤷‍♂️) Rangers players in the Scotland team. I watched JG score many goals for Rangers over the years but this one is etched on my mind. A true legend. Despite this historic result and the wonderful array of players available Scotland didn’t qualify for the finals in England in 66.

Graeme Price

Gio goals! Haven't picked one of his many brilliant goals, so hopefully someone else does. Free kick against them comes to mind.

Chris Lamont

Gio vs Monaco was a cracker. His freekick vs Galatasaray too. Gordon Durie 3rd goal vs Hearts in the 96 cup final.
