Darren Littlejohn

As expected really. Manager still in a job because of Europe

Jamie

Do I even want to watch this?

Damien Stubbs

Talks a good game, makes a lot of sense but we’ve seen that before. Overwhelming feeling is “we’ll see”.

John Smith

Not the most encouraging of interviews

Stuart McWilliams

It sounds like Clement has at least until europe is over, but more likely until the Sporting director is appointed (which could be months away).

Martin Maliska

This should have been the message last Monday rather than radio silence, it’s exactly what we all thought was the reason for not sacking him, as much as I disagree at least he’s finally spoken.

Ross Monro

Regardless of if the root causes lie deeper than the manager. The question is could a different manager get more out this lot than clement and I think the answer is yes.

Andrew

Is there a need to intersperse footage of our chief executive talking about our most humiliating cup defeat with footage of the opposition celebrating said defeat?

Jamiedinho

If the board didn't continually hire the wrong manager this wouldn't be an issue.

Andy MacArthur

Manager is only there to navigate the Europa League? Hardly a vote of confidence there. I think it goes to show he definitely won’t be in charge next season. It’s a week too late, and just the usual well intended words. Maybe I’m just negative or it’s the apathy setting in but I just don’t see how it gets better? How can they only just now see that we are missing a sporting director? It’s been obvious since Ross Wilson left. Does it take a review to find that out? The proof will be in the pudding, but as supporters we need to see something positive to cling onto. We need something tangible and that interview didn’t bring that.

Jim Reid

Manager still there due to Europa League run ☹️. The QP result should have sufficed

White Family

Lot of corporate bank*ank there. So new sporting director needs to be involved in review and presumably appointment of new manager yet no time line for new sporting director. Let's look at management KPIs for the year League Red Europe green Scottish Cup Red League Cup Amber. That is material for failing to meet objectives/sackable. Yet review Clements results, his tactics are woeful, everything is woeful. Saturday at 3pm will visibily show how far we have failed this year.

Gareth Williams

"I'm glad you asked that..." like the questions weren't pre-planned! In summary We're shite but we can't keep sacking managers, Europe has been good though. Technical Director - player scouting/squad planning -Nils Koppen Sporting Director - whole club operations, training centre, womens team etc - New guy required So that means the manager is only responsible for coaching/managing the 1st team. At what point do we see any evidence of coaching work? The players can't pass the length of themselves, some players clearly look out of sorts in the roles they are in, IE Hagi on the left and we don't have a system to break down a low block, we never score from set pieces! I don't see evidence of coaching improvement at all! Is the fact we haven't got any pace in the team (how we would beat a low block) down to Koppen or the manager? Good of him to come out and talk, but faith in the manager is non-existent.

Andy Barnett

Been in the job for a few months and the best he can come up with is “we need a sporting director” aye no shit! Also, not fronting up after the QP disaster shows he had zero leadership skills or balls. All rehearsed answers and sound bytes

Rachel

Exactly what I expected but it’s far too late this should have happened last week rather than the silence. It’s not really filled me with confidence but to be honest we’re in a situation where I can’t see the wood from the trees so probably doesn’t help how I’m feeling and makes it harder to see the positives

Scott Macrae

If there’s water pissing through the ceiling you can absolutely look at that at the same time as everything else. I’m just hoping they are keeping him till the summer and will have an SD and managerial candidate lined up. Not much of a development. We are paying consultants and will hire a sporting director at some point.

Granters

For a clearly scripted and rehearsed interview, it’s not particularly inspiring. I just hope he’s a better CEO than he is a speaker and motivator.

james whyte

Anyone just bloody sick of all of this? Words. Promising loads. Changes to the football structure. Bloody player trading model. Heard it for years now.

Stephen

Disagree. The one thing Clement has got right is Europe. Don’t think a caretaker manager is the answer to that tie. Remember Davis vs Limassol? After we are out of Europe we should be looking to get someone in though.

KAD87

Would have liked to have heard more on the findings/issues that have been uncovered so far. What problems are being solved? Some tangible examples of what has been going on would have been good, not just “we need a sporting director”. Most of us have been throwing cash at rangers through thick and thin and we just get spoken to when it suits them and only get the info they want us to get.

Jim Milne

What an absolute pile of pish. So in his own words he's basically only talking to fans because he's going to be hiring a Sporting Director and not because of the worst result in our history. He's just a yes man for Park & Co.

Stevie Auld

Is this a repeat? I'm sure I've heard this all before.

KAD87

Agreed. Fed up with it. Dave King warned us about all this eh?

Jamiedinho

After listening to it it sounds very much like he's getting next season as we "can't keep changing managers". Incredibly depressing interview

Gregor Anderson

Going against the grain but not really much I can disagree with. He has probably said as much as you would want in the public domain. As for the manager would have been the easy thing to do just to sack Clement after QP but as Pat points out would probably just create another 6 problems in the build up to our last 16 tie in the EL. That does not mean he is not looking at a replacement in the meantime but ultimately if everything behind the scenes is a mess and a new manager is given the same shite Clement has had to deal with then this run of a new manager every year will become the norm.

Jordan McKay

He could have said all of this last Wednesday and the mood among the support might have been a bit better, instead of insulting us with the radio silence. If they are keeping Clement because of Europe then fair enough. That means a sporting director can come in and help make the decision on the his future. I think we need to be prepared for Clement to be in charge when next season starts.

Gregg

I suspect the new Sporting Director’s first job will be hiring a new manager. The new operating board will hire the sporting director, he will then get a manager therefore they are all accountable thereafter for their choices. Hopefully we can do this quickly - albeit needs done properly too. Ahhhhh fuck

Neil Wilson

Like with most of these things, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Given the lack of success over the last number of years, the club wasn't structured correctly. Whether that be from the recruitment side of things, through to developing players from the academy for the first team. Boardroom and senior positions at the club haven't run the club correctly, leaving a mess to clear up. At the start of the season, you could see this was going to be a transitional season. We are half way through a squad overhaul, which again should never be a position your in. It's vital we get the setup right than be here again in October wanting another structure or personnel change. It's frustrating, but it is what it is.

Luke

The club won’t be fixed until the people that we bring in turn their words into actions. I think he should be prioritising what is going on in the pitch, over employing yet another developmental position at the club. Clement has until the end of the season, that is certain.

WILLIAM JACK

The interview wasn't inspiring but when he talks about Technical Director and Sporting Director roles, remember only one of those is actually filled. Phil has been doing more than a manager's job for a lot of the season. I know we're all scunnered but as for evidence of coaching work, I think you have to take into account if players improve. Igamane, Nsiala, Jefte and even Czerny after a ropey start all improved under PC - so that constitutes proof ofgood coaching work, I'd say. Even players like Sterling only started to come on under PC. Compare that to previous managers like Pedro, Ally and Beale where players stagnated or got worse and I think that's one stick we maybe shouldn't beat big Phil with. Like I say, one man's thoughts.

WILLIAM JACK

Maybe a wee bit reductive. One could equally look at the situation and say. How has the manager been supported as board KPI's. Recruitment: Amber or red. Management support structure (eg Sporting Director): Amber or red. Environment (ie having our own pitch to play on at the start of a season): Red. Corporate structure and governance: Red. Personally I think PC has been shafted and probably won't see out the summer but we can't pretend he's been given the support a Rangers manager needs to overhaul a smoothly running CFC operation. Quite the opposite.

White Family

Both are as bad as each other. Not only football wise, you gonto hospitality or for a meal and the service and standard of food is poor, all aspects need standards of the highest standards restored as we pay good money to it.

Alan Cowan

Interesting that the average age of them last night was 28+. Hopefully they are sitting on their hands basking in the shitshow at Ibrox and doing what they always do, keeping the cash in a biscuit tin. The "important" player they have is coming up for 32, next big injury, and he's toast. Without him they're bang average. If we're stealing a march on them and lowering the age, maybe we'll come out of this long dark tunnel equal or at least competitive. Big question is Clement the guy to deliver on the pitch?

Jim Reid

There in lies the problem, win domestically and the rest will take care of itself

Douglas Innes

Last week said nothing fans rage This week says somethings fans rage Not sure why he bothered to be honest and also to be honest I wasn't wanting an apology eitherv

Ryan McMillan

Going from a side that finished with 92 points 2 years ago, 85 last year & now probably 81/82 this season shows that there are failures on multiple levels at the club (stating the obvious, I know). By doing what Stewart alludes to, we avoid both the contract exodus created by Wilson & disastrous summer by Beale. Structural issues no following manager could mask or fix. That’s not to say Clement should stay, his time is up & the EL is delaying the inevitable. However, if Clement were to go, the replacement has to be driven by football men, as Clement IMO was a populist board hire, that was a response to fans who were vocal about “tippy tappy” football. Linking back to my 1st paragraph, the board’s goals shouldn’t be so much “win the league every season” but sustaining consistent 90+ point seasons, this will in-turn result in more league titles. It’s a dry way to look at it, I know, but that’s a key part of the game in this day & age & it doesn’t look like it’s changing anytime soon.

James

He is slated for not speaking. He comes out and speaks. He is slated for saying the same things. Did fans expect him to say “We will sack the manager straight after EL exit, and spend £100m on new players next season”? What he says makes sense whether we like it or not.

Scott

I wanted him to speak, now i wish he never. Sounds painfully out his depth and not in tune with the fans at all. The last guy being bad isnt a reason to keep this guy. Referring to “tough europa league runs” no one cares. Its way down the list. Sticking to a “plan” at all costs will send us even further back.

Stephen

That’s the problem though, we need the money from Europe if we want to catch up with Celtic.

Gordon Smith

1. Sacking managers doesn't work. Hiring shite managers is what doesn't work. 2. Looking forward to how Phillipe and the team respond to the setback. So far it's been getting played off the park by Hearts and winning thanks to luck, starting Tom Lawrence who is away at the end of the season to try win the game short term. 3. I'm not going to make a statement after every result. The whole club including the PR team went into radio silence not just him. Fair play to him for speaking but unless the plan is to sacrifice domestic success or downsize I'm not really seeing what the plan is. We will see how the plan survives season ticket renewal or more inevitable shite results.

G Calder

Im afraid hes correct in what he’s saying . We need a bigger fix than just sacking the manager.. Its not a quick fix . Look at the money we have seen walk out the door for nothing . We need root & branch change . PTM is crucial to our evolvement as a club - and this was the 1st season of us kick starting that .. & IMO - we have got off to a great start with that. A lot of potential & value in our squad developing . Im buying into this & will be giving the process time before i dismiss it .

G Calder

Patrick stewart is just in the door .. surely we need to give him a chance ?

KennyY

Spot on from the chairman.

James Milliken

Sounded like a word salad from yet another uninspiring leader. Stick him on the pile with Clement and Tav... All he missed was "Synergy with the fans" and "obviously we're disappointed" and I would have got my weak as fuck bingo card up 😫

David P

So because we've changed manager a few times over the years we now need to stick with a poor one??? Sounds like a bold strategy cotton, let's see how it pays off......Christ we really are an absolute joke now 🙄

Mark Boyd

Shocked that our supporters aren’t happy a guy is telling us we need a long term solution to a long term problem. Utterly shocked. We want to hear him speak, so we can say it’s shite when it’s not what we want to hear.

Stephen

On Tom Lawrence , people will complain either way. £20,000 a week sitting in the stand! etc. Gio and Clement were brought in both having previously achieved things at decent sized clubs. There are definitely issues in the background that contribute to things not working out for them too. That can’t be ignored. Think like poor transfer strategies / no money and lack of youth team talent certainly don’t help them and it needs to be addressed. I honestly don’t think Pep Guardiola won’t win the league next season if he was appointed with our budget.

Michael Gray

Absolutely. To compete for the league, you need 90+ points every year and hit over 90 goals a year. We have achieved that points total 5 times since the year 2000/01 winning the league 4 times when we've hit that points total. We've only scored 90 goals+ three times, winning the league twice. Bear in mind, we've only won the league 6 times since times since 2000/01. Celtic have had fourteen 90+ points seasons and scored 90+ goals 12 times (nine of which when we were in the league). They’ve always had more fire power than us since the turn of the century, There are many reasons why we are we are, but having a coherent footballing strategy we stick to, from manager to manager, will only improve our ability to hit consistently this those standards in the league. From the time Parks became Chairman, to Bennett replacing him, it seems a disciplined approach in the football department was thrown out the window

Gordon Smith

I get what you're saying pal but I'm told the whole strategy was supposed to be building for the future and the youth players would function as the first team but obviously the manager felt he couldn't afford another defeat so had to play him when he's away at the end of the season. It's hardly an unpopular decision or long term thinking. I would expect the Rangers manager if it was Pep or Beale to motivate the players and beat Queens Park at home. I genuinely see that result as gross misconduct that erases any goodwill or faith that Clement deserves for next season built up by the European results. You can't even put it down to a one off shock because it was caused by patterns of play weve witnessed all season and all that Clement has built has caused that. I hope I'm wrong. I hope there's something we're all missing and that we look back on these days and laugh as we toast Clements league title but there's nothing long term about keeping Clement in unless the board have told him to fully focus on Europe and ignore every domestic trophy l

David P

I think we're fed up hearing empty words with no affirmative action. To be perfectly honest, I'd be more than happy to never hear from this guy again as long as he's making important decisions and I'm seeing results.

Scott

I thought it was really encouraging to be honest.

Luke

It’s more of a dig at the clubs direction in the past. Jobs getting filled, buzzwords getting used, nothing actually happening. Far too early to make a judgement on PS but backing this manager is not a good stance to take. I agree with him in that we are going through managers too quickly but is PC a guy you would be willing to go all in on? Backing a manager because he has got us into the knockout stages of Europe. Gio was sacked after getting us to a Europa League final.

Ryan McMillan

Completely agree on all points, they were falling apart & Lennon was keeping from getting worse under Walter & Ally signalled an even bigger downturn for us. They responded by creating a winning machine, didn’t happen overnight, but as you’ve highlighted consistent 90+ seasons. That has to be at the forefront of this new board, that has to be the benchmark.

JM

Problem with these statements is that fans don’t really listen to them and project to whatever hidden meaning makes them the most angry. He’s sticking with PC for the Europa but nothing beyond this season. Anything else is guesswork/extrapolation or deep insight into your own inadequacies.

JM

Losing because of luck = all down to Phil, winning because of luck = no credit to Phil. Poor old Phil…

Hendi

I'd be pretty concerned if he was "in tune with the fans" the fans have no idea about how to run a football club or what the issues are. The fans think all our problems will magically disappear with the appointment of a new manager....

Gareth Williams

Jefte is a bomb scare and has been the root cause of a the loss of a number of important goals, because of poor defending. If the manager has been doing a sporting directors role, or part of it, then why did Stewart say that Koppen had been taking up this mantle and doing more? I just think we have gone back the way under his stewardship and the players look bereft of quality and basic understanding at times. Then you go onto motivation, they only seem to be up for the bigger games. I've been either side of the fence on PC since October, wanting him sacked one week and backing him the next but the QP defeat was a step too far for me.

Scott

The fans keep the show on the road so he better get in tune or starting showing some sort of progress soon.

Hendi

What signs of progress are you looking for? The problems are off the park. The progress needs to be off the park before any progress will be realised on it.

Ryan McMillan

56 games from 26 games is about 2.15 PPG, continuing that trend would be 25/26 points.

Martin Sutherland

Said in January he’ll be the best or worst thing to happen to us. No in between. I still can’t make my mind up on him. If we are doing this to be in a position to recruit a better manager in the summer, then fair play. Regardless of all the nonsense behind the scenes, this manager cannot be trusted to take us forward. He cannot manage outside of Belgium. 18 months in and he still doesn’t understand the league.

Andy MacArthur

The club should of immediately responded to our defeat to Queens with an answer to what was going to Clement. It looks weak and reactionary to release this over a week later

John Smith

When you come to San Francisco 🎶

Andrew Meldrum

I'm always struck by how few injuries they get, and also how thin their squad is. Take McGregor, Carter Vickers and possibly Maeda out, and they drop off a huge amount. They have no cover in defence (Ralston?), 5 midfielders and 4 forwards.

Stewart Fenwick

Thought this was exactly on point and a bit of positivity at long last in that PS is showing he is a proper leader / executive. Two key takeaways: 1. “doing things in the proper order.” PC will go. No doubt in PS mind you can tell from his tone+body langue. It’s Just not now. As PS points out, he has been good in Europe. So as we only have Europe to play for why not give it to him?? Better chance with someone who has a track record over a caretaker who doesn’t have any. No point cutting nose off to spite face, just to appease the fanbase (who let’s be fair are not the appeasing type in the main. As will just be negativity over a caretaker who gets poor results and doesn’t play the youngsters). Then PC gets sack later in season / summer. 2. Timing. Smart to do this interview now with a positive update on sporting director. This review is working already. Unlike many failed attempts in the past. “He won’t talk about every bad result.” That’s fair. But he did address all the key talking points I’ve been hearing from fans. My thoughts anyways…. At least Andy McGowan might agree with me 😂

stephen

He was damned when he didn't comment and for many he will be damned now that he has. Very scripted as these things always are. Fans just want success and a fantastic team on the pitch now. Until we have this we'll continue to piss and moan because we are fans and that's just what happens......

Graeme McLeod

He only did this club managed fluffy piece because the team won at the weekend. The radio silence would have continued had McCart not scored two own goals as there's absolutely nothing there that he couldn't have said last week.

Alan Ferguson

Corporate version of ‘birthday caird pish’

Donald Paterson

I thought one of the key benefits of a technical director was to implement a common style of play right throughout the club / age groups. I didn’t hear this mentioned as part of NKs role and does he actually have the background and knowledge to do this?
