Stuart Lamont

Who’s coming in to replace him though, that’s the big question

Steven L

It’s not official yet. Tell the club to get the statement out

chris smith

Finally, should have been much earlier. The board were told …sticking with the plan was never ever going to work once the fans had made up their minds

Luke

He is just the face, nothing much to celebrate, the players remain.

Norm

Another notch on Tav's belt

Fraser86

Right boys did you get confirmation before the rest of us mere mortals

Gordon Millar

Inevitable, our search continues for a manager who can win in Scotland and Europe, not an easy task!

Leslie White

Yes Clement sacked but can we sack also the players responsible on the field of non triers

Hendi

Had to be done. But any supporters thinking a change of manager is going to reverse our underachievment is in for a shock. The players shouldn't get a free pass here either, they've been a disgrace.

Rona Bluebell

No pleasure in us sacking another manager but it should’ve happened after the Queens Park game. Some standards should not be lowered.

Andrew Hillis

Had to go! The players clearly not playing for him! What is the short term solution?

Scotty

Good riddance. I was 100% behind him, so disappointed in how it’s been allowed to drag on past Queens Park.

Gordon Docherty

Muscat contract up in March. Right time. Muscat only option. Didn't fancy him but looked at him closely after linked twice. Right man

John Smith

Part of me wants to bring Gerrard back. What a lift that would give the whole club

Robert White

Do you think any Scottish manager would have allowed Queens Park or St Mirren? No. Baldy Beale made us worse. We dont need a euro salesman again.

David Hanlon

It should have been done months ago. We would still be in the Scottish Cub and perhaps even in the title race.

Aatlis

Another one bites the dust. Let's hope we get it right with our next manager. Also, some of our players need to have a long hard look at themselves and decide if they are capable of playing for Rangers and if not then engineer their way out.

Colin Gardner

I agree. He's the only candidate imo. Plays fast attacking football and knows the Asian market. All day long for me.

stuart paterson

Always hurt himself with his tactics!! Had a few really bright moments, but just couldn’t do the bread and butter!!

James Fell

Neil McCann for me until the end of the season. He at least talks a good game when on media duties so he knows his stuff. Who knows if he can implement it right enough

KennyY

Players should be utterly ashamed of themselves. Half of them need to be gone as well. It’s the right decision but this changing manager every year or so isn’t sustainable and makes us a laughing stock . Hope they take their time and appoint the right person and alongside the proposed new investment we can start a positive chapter.

Peter Hosie

Give Gio another crack at the EL

Alastair Thomson Mills

On a human level I feel sorry for him as he was thrown under the bus by a shallow board. But ultimately he picks the team and the tactics. He failed in Scottish football at both. I hope all the players are looking at themselves in their mirrors. They checked out on him ages ago. At the end of the day we fans pour our hard earned into our club. We are all human beings and his staying in the job was torture for us. Interim until the summer and then the new owners will choose their own manager.

James Paterson

Thank god. But interim managers and Rangers don't often go well

Allan Osborne

We've had more managers in the last 4 years than we had in the first 95, but it had to happen. He's been trolling us almost for months and it couldn't go on. I'm sick of saying this, but we really do have to get the next one right.

Billy McCormack

Sick and tired as to what's happening at our Club, manager after manager after manager, it's getting ridiculous and it has to be sorted.

Paul Dunnachie

Had to happen. My daughter & I met you on our way in yesterday David.. she now has a weird record of being at Clement’s first and last matches as manager.

Hendi

We have a structure in place for recruitment that doesn't depend on the manager though. So we wouldn't bring a manager in based on his knowledge of a particular market. The strategy needs to generate profit, not just sign good players.

aldo adens

Warburton,Pedro,Gerrard,Gio,Beale, Clement. 6 permenant managers we have had since we have returned to top flight. Only Gerrard out that 6 has started a season and finished the season as our manager.

Graham Jones

Maybe people will shut up[ they’ve got what they wanted now, including the media. That’s three managers this board have wen5 through, and it lands at their door now. That is where the ire of the fans should’ve been directed all along, not at a man who took on a thankless task he was never going to get a fair rub at completing. January came and gone, with one unwanted player from a French B team. The players attitudes stink to high heaven, and I feel sorry for whoever has to take the job on next, because they’ve been doomed to failure before they start. Sure they’ll get a bounce, but then the players will sink back into the way they like things - docile. And people really think a bunch of yankees will come in and sort out the team, playing a game they can’t even bring to call football.

Linda Mackay

Had to go but these players, dearie me, they are rotten!

Michael James McLeod

It'll still be the same players and the same captain, the captain that's seen so many managers leave. When we bring in a new manager we have to see a new captain.

Jim McCutcheon

End of the story with Mr Clement a terrible read, the players are a lot too blame as well imo , now we can start the rebuild 🤷‍♂️, thanks guys

Stuart McWilliams

12 months ago this week, we were thumping hearts and winning at rugby park. I was convinced we were winning the league and couldn't imagine a regression like the one we've seen.

keith wright

Have they officially released it? Can’t find it anywhere.

Alan Cowan

Hopefully the end of Tavernier as captain Not sure if he'd want to play on if he's stripped of arm band. Don't really care

Brian Rae

The manager has rightly fallen on his sword but the fanbase should not forget about the rest who've played a major part in how we got to this point—starting with Mr "best in class" himself and the rest of that incompetent boardroom. The players must also be criticised, especially the senior group who have shown no leadership or the right mentality to play for us. We've been treading water for over 3 years, and the incoming new owners must take this club forward. Now we'll suffer the usual suggestions of under qualified ex-players being mentioned to come in as an interim.

David P

Surprised at the timing due to the takeover but long overdue. I won't be happy until those in the boardroom follow him out the door.

Billy McCormack

Can I ask and this is not a defence on Clement but am I wrong in thinking that the continued formation that every Manager has played since Gerrard ie 1 up and 2 in midfield, is this the manager or the board asking for this, cause I was under the impression the club want that style of football so if a manager leaves if successful an another one comes in he just slots in to play that same style?

David P

Don't worry about him mate, he's walking away with a large chunk of our cash in his back pocket. He's an extremely poor football manager. Don't think there's anything more to it than that.

Kev Roberts

Warnock till the end of the season

John Breen

Thank god. Guy didn’t have a barrs irn bru about the Scottish game

David P

Unfortunately you get banned on that site if a mod decides he doesn't like your opinion. Horrible place.

Andy Barnett

Tavernier has now seen off 1/3 of the permanent managers in our entire history. A club record. While terrific at times, and not exclusively to blame - it’s surely time he left also

Hendi

Wheels fell off against Motherwell a year ago next sat. Thought it was just a bump in the road that day as well. Sad.

Graeme Glennie

He never gave you an opportunity to get on board with him. Incredibly unlikeable at pressers and arrogant with absolutely nothing to back it up. Refusal to change and adapt to our game killed him. Players are an absolute disgrace aswell and there's a lot that need chased, starting with our so called captain. He's a disgrace and needs chased also for me.

KMS

He's not the only head that should roll, what a mess we are in, we are an absolute basketcase and laughing stock and that will take a long time to fix. I am absolutely scunnered with us at the moment, I won't celebrate Clement being sacked because it just highlights more failure, I will celebrate when we get it right on the park in the best possible way. Shiny things!!

Alan Shaw

About time. One of the boys from my work met Arthur Numan yesterday. He was meant to say over after the game yesterday but he went back to Holland after leaving ibrox at half time. Says a lot

George Grant

It’s at least 6 mo the to late for me.

Billy Forrester

Had to happen however I am not proud that we have had to sack another manager. A decent man who I wish the best for the future. Them players who will be smiling tonight can fuck off too, arseholes who don’t give a fuck for the shirt. They do not get off Scot free either. Spineless arseholes

John Johnston

Just relieved it is over now but we need to take our time to get the right person.

Kirsty Wilson

Raging at the players they show the quality and desire and hunger in Europe and v Celtic then play like they can’t be bothered and lose to st mirren - would like to see us sign some proper angry passionate leaders who will drive the team on and kick them up the arse when they are not giving their all

LD

I fear this will be a " be careful what you wish for" situation, as in previous years. What hope is there for the new manager with the same players, board and background setup.

David Innes

Great news - my birthday weekend isn’t completely ruined after all!

Slubbs

6 months too fucking late.

David Innes

What I expect from the Yankees is for the club to be run properly I.e. not losing millions every season while still being utterly shite on the park.

KMS

I've got a gut feeling they're bringing Gerrard back

Rod

When The Advocaat years started you guys only had to cover another 5 managers who followed him, now it's going to be at least 10.

Lance Grant

I think the comments on this tell you all you need to know about fan media.

David Innes

I don’t think he’d take it. He was only here as a stepping stone to the Liverpool job which he now knows he’s never going to get

William George Bell

Clement’s legacy was blowing the league last season. Oh how different this season might have been had champions league money been available and I know it’s probably not the time but senior players and their leadership over the last year since the league implosion has been abysmal.

Brian

Good riddance p c

Spoon

The challenge now will not be to start next season ‘rebuilding’ or with a manger who ‘needs time to implement etc’ we should of course expect some bedding in but the club has fallen into a terrible cycle of everything having to take years to sort when the right people can make significant change and impact pretty quickly. Getting the right guy, the right set up and the right players in and bedded quickly is the key, to be competitive in Scotland isn’t half as difficult as the club have made it in the last decade.

Lynn Houston

Wish him well … but he just could not get his players to respond to the simple demands of our league.. our bread and butter Bullied, outsmarted & outworked.. home and away Not Good Enough for us ! !

Leslie White

Agree, however I still believe we are so sadly lacking in Scots in our team. We have at present nothing more than money grabbing journeymen that don’t give a toss!

KMS

More reason to come back to a place where he started and had success, gives me the fear that if it did happen, and it's a big IF, he'd being his mate Beale back with him

Samuel Campbell

Bielsa in now to work in the background with an interim doing the games until the summer please

Stace1ofthePeople

Another one bites the dust. We really are becoming an embarrassment. Clement isn't fully to blame and half the team can f off with him tbh! Would love to see this as positive and turning point for our club but is it really? Have no faith in us right now to make it right.

Graeme McLeod

Highly doubt the board are dictating the style of play. Gio continued on with what Gerrard had been doing, and never got a say in recruitment. Even then though he was trying to add wingers into his system, which Beale wasn't keen on. Beale cams back and reverted to what we'd done under Gerrard. That's why there were no great changes between those three. Clement hasn't even attempted to do anything different when his job was coming under pressure. Giving Tom Lawrence playing time over youngsters, and Kieran Dowell before him. He wasn't told by the board to play a particular style or formation - he just didn't understand Rangers or Scottish football and was too arrogant to change. (He and Beale have that I'm common at least.)

David Kiltie

Gerrard has had his time. Things were going downhill when he left and his record post Ibrox is pretty poor. There was a wow factor when he came 6 years ago but that’s a card that can only be played once. Let’s start with a clean slate in the summer - new owners 🤞, new DOF, new head of academy, new manager - no one with any baggage. If Gerrard was to come back , then Beale would be there in his capacity as coach (a role to which he is well suited) and not a manager (to which he isn’t).

james whyte

It all went shit Mwell last March. Up to that point it was looking good. Been a shambles since. As much as I wanted him gone it's a shambles we are in this position yet again. Proper rebuild of the Club now. New board, new Sporting Director, New Manager and staff. It HAS to work.

Vanb bryceter

I'm gutted and elated in equal measure. Clement gave us some memorable performances in Europe. However domestically he was inept coupled with his bizarre post match briefing s after frankly some shameful results. I do believe he wanted to get us back but he just didn't have the tools. Please don't rush the next appointment we need to get it right.

8luenose1872

This takeover isn't registering with so many of our fans. Its nearly completed so it's definitely happening but so many don't seem to realise.

Stuart Grady

Doesn’t matter who comes in, nothing will change until those frauds on the park who have stunk the place out are shown the door.

Vanb bryceter

Get the Gerrard chat in the bin we are better than him the next manager should be someone with a decent track record and deserving of the responsibility of steering us back to dominance

James Anderson

A nice guy, but Clement did need to go, however putting faith in players such as the captain, being a serial loser and comforting himself that he has now seen off yet another manager.

KMc

Finally! Where’s the breaking news tune went to!? That’s twice now😅

Darren

Should have been done long before now but glad it is. Main point is can’t get a manager before a DOF so interim now until that’s sorted !

John Hood

Imagine the pressure on the extra manager if we don't win anything next season! Next appointment and summer signings crucially important. Don't envy them their job!

stephen

The squad that remains is a disjointed mess, Clement leaving does nothing to change that (thats not to say he shouldn't have been sacked, he absolutely should have been, months ago) we have a real issue in that dressing room and it's been there for years, the squad needs real surgery, the rot must be surgically removed.

KMS

Like I said it is just a horrible guy feeling and the board are still in control and with their track record I already feel nauseous, he's currently the bookies favourite, but that's just lazy betting odds....I hope.

Jordan McKay

Thank you for your efforts, Philippe, and all the best for the future. He will be remembered in time as yet another victim of an incompetent board. I just hope this turns out to be the right decision.

Derek Stevenson

Who knows who is next. The next manager must be aggressive, and he must be attack minded with a good style but it must be quick/direct and focused aggression at the forefront for domestic success. It’s good news moment but it is another sad part of our history.

Vanb bryceter

Quite eloquently put I agree whole heartedly. There are absolute imposters parading about as leaders in that team.

Kev Roberts

There is a hint of sarcasm in my comment pal.. Gerrard would be my choice unfinished business

Hendi

"Not rushing" sounds great in theory, but the same perma raged fans will be growing more angry with every day that passes without news of an appointment. Any delay will be interpreted as further evidence of board incompetence.

Stu Baddeley

I feel sorry for the bloke he was dealt a really shit hand but ultimately he couldn’t cut it. I don’t think there were many that wanted him to succeed more than me, felt we had something in him when he first started and even during spells last year. But it was time for him to go(weeks ago). Wish him all the best.

Spoon

That’s not saying it needs to be perfect day one but the accepted mantra that everything from shirts to catering to being ready to play to having a shape layman can recognise takes ages needs binned. Every business has no-brainer quick wins or ways to expedite change / progress we were conditioned to believe nothing could be done quickly and effectively by consecutive boards, which was drivel.

KMc

Wit! You’re the boss, Davie - bring it back. I thought it tied in perfectly as well. Proper news bulletin-esque😂

John Monk

The rumours of Issame Charaï and KT for the rest of the season makes sense but I’d be looking at bringing in someone like Kettlewell for assistant to help Charaï understand our batshit crazy league

greg sutherland

I take no pleasure from this, but it was inevitable. I missed my first home game of the season yesterday as there was a direct clash with my sons football. We had been pretty lucky on that front so far this season. Well to add to the "end of days" feel my son broke his leg and I have been at the RHA for the majority of the last 24 hours. When he comes round after his op I need to give him one or two Rangers updates. Long story yesterday about the ambulance service refusing to help. We had to carry him to the back of my car in agony (I've been panicking about whether I made his injury worse Phil boersma style since). We got him propped up in the back of the car with his mate beside him and blankets wrapping his legs and he asked "what's the score?" as I put on the radio to hear st Mirren scoring. A truly awful day, but the op was a success and he will be on the mend soon

Vanb bryceter

I couldn't care less about the perma raged arseholes .There are plenty of decent fans who will support a measured approach. This board cannot be allowed to appoint another failure. We need a serious sporting director with proper football knowledge

Simon H&H

Take our time on this one. We have time on our side. Especially with the possible takeover. They’ll want their own man

Scott Stewart

Inevitable….. been a long time coming. . Thank god no more crazy press conferences, the Players should also be ashamed of themselves, but clement couldn’t motivate them., A poor mix… Many strange decisions on player positions selections and subs. Zero fitbaw. One good game in five or six. We strongly lacked identity. Even when Gerrard was unsuccessful we were pleasing on the eye.

Ronnie Gallacher

This Board (or the majority of it, excluding the new CEO & Chairman) is no longer in control, a new broom is sweeping through our club, change is coming!! I feel sorry for Clement as not all his doing albeit he must take responsibility for the style of play or lack of it and the inability to have the players buy in to it. I wish him well as we look forward to what I believe will be progress on and off of the park! Here we go …

Peter

Academic question after QP and St Mirren but could he have succeeded in other circumstances? Had some promise as a manager but was given a poor team and asked to economise in improving it. Back to drawing board again.

Ronnie Gallacher

No, no, no to Gerrard, he had his time and left at the first opportunity. Don’t forget, he was also the reason Morelos & Kent were not sold as wanted to build on the league winning season, then he fucked off!

Jim Lamb

Never a good thing when our manager is binned, but it’s the right decision. Interesting to see how we move forward with the new ownership.

William Hughes

Never like any Rangers manager being sacked. It's still looked upon as a privilege to head up The Famous Glasgow Rangers. Get our standards back and success tends to follow. We'll support you evermore 🟦⬜️🟥

KennyY

How does a manager do that with this group of players and no money.

Bixby Snyder

Bob Bradley spotted at San Francisco airport hauling a bag of apples.

KennyY

I think in general the comments on here are far more sensible and measured than you’d get on the likes of the YouTube Rangers fan media channels. The majority here seem to recognise that Clement was dealt a poor hand while at the same time accepting that his time was up. You get the odd halfwit comment of course but that’s to be expected.

KennyY

Spot on Billy. A new manager has to work with this group and miraculously change them into winners. Zero chance.

LD

Like a new player signing, only when the pictures of the new board with scarves above their heads are released, will I believe it.

Calum Downham

Let’s hope the current board will be no where near appointing the next permanent manager, considering everything they touch turns to shit

Billy Forrester

Many have tried and failed, not quite as easy as u think spoon. We need to hit lucky like they did with Ange, one season and boom. That is hard

Spoon

Away, what a lot of nonsense. This everything takes an age is a modern brainwashing, players are made out to require total reprogramming when arriving a club as if they have forgot what a football is, how to pass shoot or tackle. This patience nonsense has been code for the last decade for we don’t know what we are doing. Look around the league people with far less do much much more with it.

Gordon Smith

Big Duncan Ferguson to shake them up until the end of the season.

Nikky Cairney

Feel relieved he’s gone. At least 4 months too late for me. Should’ve went after Kilmarnock and then Aberdeen. Anyone with half a brain cell could see where the season was headed with the football Clement had us playing. Can remember the Aberdeen game when the fans turned in Beale before he was sacked and I felt sorry for him. Do not feel that way at all with Clement. Too arrogant to ever admit it was his fault. Spoke down to the fans like we couldn’t see what was in front of our eyes. Good riddance to him. Feels good knowing I will never have to listen to him do an interview ever again.

AndyK70

Another sad day in our recent history but the right decision and also overdue. Blame lies only 50% on PC for me. More employees need to leave the building ASAP starting with several players and board members

Billy Forrester

🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ did wonders at Inverness and Forest Green. I do hope ur taking the pish

John McTrusty

KT does not even make any sense on RTV. Fuck putting him anywhere near the first team. Their is a reason he was out of work for so long.

Jude W

This is a really good point. I remember losing away in Moscow but playing brilliantly and you almost didn’t mind so much not getting the result.

Jude W

Yeah, that game Ross McClausland got injured and the Motherwell player should have seen red. The tide turned after that game.

Jude W

That’s a horrendous record and shows also how mentally strong Gerrard was to get to grips with what was not an easy task.

Alastair McGeoch

Yes, the board didn’t deliver on what they clearly promised him, however with the budget we have we should be in a title race, we should be competing in Celtic games and we should be winning cups. He’s had enough time to show he’s not capable of it. Then add that the football was dire, tactically limited and regressing from game to game and that he has to start quoting xG after games to try and show some sort of progression meant his time was up long ago. I do wonder if he will regret not being more decisive with the players he had (e.g changing captain, dumping players like Tav in the reserves and promoting the youth so he could actually talk about building for the future etc, setting standards knowing the squad can’t meet them to focus fans on the board rather than himself) Ultimately, another failure.

Billy Menmuir

He’s the manager so naturally he pays with his job when it goes as Pete Tong as it has… but by God he’s been let down by a lot of those players.. the phrase “downed tools” makes me fume.. where’s their professional pride ffs?

Simon H&H

I don’t think so. The warning sign were there from his time at Monaco that he was unwilling to change from a set style and so it proved here.

Spoon

Like St Mirren for a start, organised, making the best of what they have which is minuscule compared to us. You aren’t going to convince me any more than I will convince you, pointless conversation. Enjoy your day.

Peter Hosie

Rumours it’d Barry Ferguson: Clyde - failed Alloa - failed Kelty - failed The Europa will be my last game at Ibrox as this is just another visionless Murty if it happens 🤬

Peter Hosie

Gio on a round per round basis for the EL

Derek Stevenson

Sell players and recruit well. Then sell more players and recruit well. And again. And again.
