Stuart McNiven

Club really isn't fucking about with that statement.

G87

Couldn't agree more David, well said

Marc Stewart

The statement was exactly what was needed.

David_Davy_Dave

Remember UEFA etc were dicks about letting us have a tifo at the EL final? Well it’s this sort of stuff that contributes to how fans are viewed and treated The banner made no sense. I hope they are not banned but they need to learn their lessons. Having UB missing for AB game would be very detrimental imho

Greg Cameron

If you lose a few subscribers over those comments David they will be no loss whatsoever!

Heart and Hand

I try to keep the site reasonably apolitical (occasionally biases come out unfortunately for which I apologise) but for me this isn’t a political argument. It’s something hurting Rangers fans by opening the door to stand closures in huge matches.

James

We are going to get done soon for TBB too imo. As much as I love hearing it UEFA have us warned about it. Their “impartial observers” (we know who they are) will definitely mention it.

John Hood

Haven't forgive union bears for the fireworks at the Lyon game at Ibrox. Killed any momentum we were having. Caused 10 minute delay and we weren't the same again. Can't say they add much to the atmosphere to the ground so wouldn't be upset if area was reconstituted back to real supporters.

Graeme Burns

The financial penalties incurred should be added pro rata to the price of season tickets for those identifying as Union Bears in CF3. It’s them, we all know it’s them. A stain on our club. Get them out.

Scott Wright (Not That One)

Well spoken, can’t disagree with your assessment on the situation! I know it’s a cliché but let’s just do our talking on the park! Bet you were delighted that you got to use the term watergate 😂 have the history boys retired btw?

Steve Clark

The banner made no sense what so ever and went over the heads of the vast majority of the support.

Gary Staff

Belter of a tune today. I’ve been listening to it for years now and it only just occurred to me that it seems to be a song about Jesus. Or am I totally misreading it? About the banners, what goes through their heads they must know we’re going to get punished for this.

James Anderson

We have enough politics round us on a daily basis, we watch Rangers to escape all that guff. Let them obsess over the worlds ills, I just want to see the Rangers play football.

Jim Milne

I was driving while listening this morning, shaking my head when I heard you say that David. The world is so polarized with too many faceless people online spouting hatred from all sides. Some of my best friends and family have different political views from me, but we discuss it respectfully and challenge each other's thoughts. I'd stop taking about it with them before I lost that relationship. Life is hard enough without making it harder. Completely agreed with everything you said, and echo Greg's comment completely.

Scott Wright (Not That One)

Twas very kind of you to warn him before hand 😂 Well Family first and all that. Hopefully in the future which will allow for time to pass, as it naturally does, for more history I guess!

Jim Milne

Between banners, throwing objects, regular running battles at OF games with the GB and from comments on here about the drugs, etc at games the club needs to directly punish that section of the support. The tifos are magnificent, I look forward to them and truly UB deserve credit for that work. However they undo all that good work with all the other bullshit IMO. Just because they increase the atmosphere shouldn't mean they have carte blanche to do whatever else they want under OUR clubs badge.

Gordon Mitchell

I'm not for political banners anywhere near ibrox but I really don't see why its discriminatory. Woke is a manufactured ideology and doesn't mean someone is anti gay etc if they don't like it. I'm more than happy to be called thick but if someone could let me know what in particular about the banner is discriminatory. Ps. The banner is daft and doesn't make sense and makes us look dumb but that's a different matter.

William Hughes

Had the pleasure of seeing that song live. Love it.

Kev Roberts

I could be wrong here but is this the same UEFA who said we could not pay tribute to our dead Queen?

Gazza G

Well said David and well done Patrick Stewart. Self entitled is spot on and long overdue to be sorted.

Kristian

Mate, it’s obviously discriminatory. You can’t use the word “foreign” and then pretend there isn’t xenophobia at play. And you can’t use a neo-Nazi hashtag (“Defend Europe”) and claim it’s coincidence and innocent.

Martin Boyd

Well said James, leave your politics at the door and if you think the football is a place to display your stupidity please don’t go.

Martin Boyd

What has that got to do with it🤷‍♂️ It’s their competition, their rules they can do and say what they like.

Gordon Mitchell

Hmmm. Kinda see what you mean. But I think its a very oversimplified assessment of the word foreign. It is also nothing like your example. Either way banner was crap.

Gordon Mitchell

Yeah I'm not saying its not but David stated it was discriminatory I honestly just wanted clarification as to why. Still none the wiser but not a hill I wish to die on. Its shite fans will suffer for a pointless banner.

Kristian

By the way, the Austrian FA were fined last year after some people displayed a “Defend Europe” banner. It’s the slogan of a neo-Nazi movement. It wasn’t used by accident, the people that made it knew what it meant. Some people may agree with the message, they may be vehemently anti-immigration… they’re entitled to that view, but they don’t then get to claim that it isn’t discriminatory.

Heart and Hand

Yes it was but as Martin says, it’s their ball and if we want to play with it we need to put up with their stuff.

Kev Roberts

Thanks for clearing that up. I will keep my thoughts to myself as this is not the place the air them. As should the people flying these banners should also keep these opinions to themselves.

Watson Bell

It is a cracking tune, my wife had an instrumental version played at her dad's funeral

John MacRae

I could not agree with you more on this David. I often feel that I’m in the minority on this when I look at social media so it’s always good to know I’m not alone in these views!!

Vanb bryceter

I'm not too sure of the protocols here. However I believe firstly as a law abiding citizen and overly taxed individual that you get shat upon at every turn in this country. The dimwitted fuckwits seem to me to get away with a hell of a lot and I'm talking generally here. Surely an appeal like this is pointless as it is likely to happen again and again until the actual Police whom we pay a handsome sum for actually do their fucking jobs for once and arrest the joyless gormless tits who spoil things for the vast majority of the good people????

David Wylie

Good statement and agree with everything you said David. Do you think actions will speak louder than words when it comes to these groups/individuals? Should these groups be the ones that miss out on tickets for Hampden for the pyro that they keep using warning after warning, rather than other supporters?

Jim Milne

I thought it was to do with singing GSTQ before the game, but that UEFA issued a generic statement that only UEFA Champions League music should be played before kick off but also sounded like they communicated to Rangers there would be no sanctions should it happen at the game. I could be wrong but that's how I recalled it.

JimGLW

Spot on David. I'm proud that the club had such a statement. Rangers and Ibrox should be a welcome place for any Ranger. No ifs nor buts. That banner was as pathetic a thing I've ever seen from the stands.

stefan strzelecki

I agree that if the club advocate for everybody to follow the club for sporting excellence , that’s is exactly what we should do. It might be best therefore, if the club abstain , from facilitating symbolic religious etiquette cultural events to be harnessed by the club. I want to be wholly honest , to witness. The “ Iftar” , or the Rainbow flag , being flown at the club , is discriminatory to me as a devout Christian , who believes that there is only one the messiah , I can’t put faith in false religion . that deviates from the gospel , I live my life everyday , as my guidance. This should never compromise my love of supporting Rangers. Never the Twain Shall meet. In other words , I can put my support behind the club, side by side , with agnostic people who don’t believe they need redemption for eternal salvation . Likewise people with paganism at the core of their being , have absolutely nothing in common with the way, I want to behave on this earth . None of this is relevant , I love my club . I strongly disagree that that banner , was either racist or discriminatory , based on what has been said. it was ambiguous. Nonetheless I take the point , that social comment , or political analysis is not the place at the football club. If club is now saying that Christians , have to abide the club , placing greater emphasis on other religious demographic groups, to detriment of practicing Christians, I fail to see how the club is for everyone . I don’t force my religion on anyone at games, when was the last time the club , raised concerns about the persecuted Christian’s of Somalia, Nigeria, Sudan, Yemen, Libya, Pakistan, or Syria? Which religious radicals are responsible for this? If club are going to facilitate “ Iftar” openings every year , they are displaying absolute contempt for devout Christians , who follow Rangers always. Better to keep religion and politics out of the club , entirely . The fact these events are not on a match day , doesn’t matter. If the club seek to keep religion and politics out of the club , then it can’t be disingenuous. Only 44% of Christian’s actually attend church today. So that makes practising Christian’s , who support Rangers , not a sizeable majority. Perhaps this could influence them to reconsider their own extra curricular actions . There is no point having a Rangers Chaplain , if you actively celebrate accentuating organisations , that deny the trinity of Jesus, that seek to promote a warped view of the Lord and saviour . .

Bryan Watson

Whole heartedly agree with Rangers statement, last Thursday was incredible but the banner was a riddy (still waiting for someone to tell me what a "foreign woke ideology" is and lay out the options for "defending Europe" and who are we to defend Europe from). We are a broad church and should celebrate that, no matter any differences, Rangers unites us all and the only colour that matters is blue. This issue has hit close to home, I never realised that I actually sit very near one of the people who were in the STV Ibrox Pride Report. I never knew this person was trans, however, what I do know is that is that they are in that stadium week in, week out, watching the same utter guff we have been watching and doing everything to support the club. They are no less of a Rangers fan than me, or anyone else on account of their characteristics. Some of those comments on twitter were vile. Proud to say that Rangers is for everyone and anyone 💙

John Smith

I agree with the defend Europe banner but I agree with boxing clever. Reality is we’re confined for now by the UEFA bureaucracy so need to pick and choose your battles. At the same time when there is something we feel goes against the institution of the club we should make our voices heard but not when it’s leading to punishment like this

G Calder

Well said David .

Gregg

Thanks for explanation - never heard of the defend Europe chat. Didn’t really get the banner at all

KMS

I would like the club to involve the police on the sinister and threatening messages being posted on social media towards Cerny

Owen Scott

I think its a bit harsh blaming the UB for all of this. The Banner ok if that was in their section but the throwing of the vape could be just one individual from that section or close to the section so don't see how blame for that can be placed on UB. Same with the missiles against Motherwell - some throw from the UB if aiming for away support. Look throwing anything is wrong and if found should be banned. Just think we shouldn't be putting all blame on the UB. As for the pyro- again two individuals from that section could be anyone.

Scott Cameron

If an area of the stadium is closed in the EL last 8 hopefully it's those in CF3/UB/RR that suffer

Vanb bryceter

I wholeheartedly agree on the tifos they are brilliant and I love seeing them. I don't believe all of the union bears are at fault here. In wider society and in this case there's always an arsehole element who thinks they're either too smart or in this case too thick to abide by the rules the majority understand and follow. As has always been the case if there is the appetite to rid the perpetrators then it will be done, but it should not be at cost to the wider support.

Andrew Hunter

Proud of the strength of wording in the statement. The Union Bears have contributed to some fantastic banners and tifos (the one against Leipzig at home was outstanding) Stick to those please lads. Leave the political statements out.

G Calder

100 % correct . We all know what ‘defend europe’ meant . Esp playing against a team from a muslim country . i also think some odd fans think Trump & Musk are buying our club with all this MAGA pish .

stephen

The banner was fucking idiotic. If I'm honest I am a bit shocked they could land a charge on it though as it was so poorly worded I'm still not really sure what the fuck it was about. In a weird way I had hoped the fact it made no sense would have saved us a charge. STOP BEING WEE FANNYS

Nom De Ploom

Apparently "Defend Europe" is a a neo-nazi slogan in Eastern Europe.

Adam Young

I can feel the same, John. Social media is never a great representation of the average supporter. But then you speak to rangers supporting family, friends, colleagues etc and you remember that most of us are quite sensible!

Darren Duthart

Well done David, you said what needed saying!!!!

Adam cotter

The club flying the trans flag is bizarre. It represents child mutilation and in the main, fetishistic men who are part of the ongoing erosion of women’s rights. Posting their statement on X, a platform owned by a man who has made it his life’s mission to destroy the “Woke Mind Virus” is obviously amusing. If the club wants the fan base to stay out of politics, I would suggest they consider doing the same. Misplaced virtue signaling will be called out, clumsily or not.

Adam Young

I used to often hear Celtic supporting colleagues expressing their frustration about the Green Brigade pedalling views that they didn’t necessarily agree with. I used to take pride in the fact that the Rangers support are a broad church and largely didn’t engage with non-football related political causes of the moment. Disappointing if our ultras groups are going in the same direction.

Davie Stuart

I'm not a left wing activist, I'm not for Labour or SNP. I've voted Conservative since I turned 18 years old but do you unfortunate state of the entire country I'm losing faith and moving to Reform UK. I know my stance on "illegal immigrantion" & I know my stance on those people here "legally." I also do not care what flag the club chooses to put over Ibrox and yes, I do agree with the Everyone Anyone campaign. We are and should always be a club for fucking everyone. What I'm trying to say, UB keep up the good quality Tifos, but keep the politics shit out of the stadium. There's no need and those supporters, it's fucking easy "not" to throw something onto the pitch. If you were drinking and don't remember doing there's a simple solution for you, stop fucking drinking. It's clearly not doing you any good.

Davie Stuart

It's not, but it's always not football related. So keep it out of the stadium. Also, no one mentioned Nazis

Jim Milne

You're definitely right about the arsehole element but for me it's more than a small minority that are at fault with their behaviour.

Nom De Ploom

"Defend Europe" definitely is a neo-nazi slogan & if you use that then you're directly associating with them. Aryan Classic / Defend Europe / Save Europa (saveurope / saveuropa / etc.)- TikTok content promoting racist and white supremacist ideas, often referencing fascist symbols like the Nazi Black Sun and the Great Replacement Theory. https://www.foam.org/articles/gigapedia

Allan Waltham

Any reason I wouldn't have received the Daily Update email today and yesterday? Getting other content.

David Innes

The Americans buying our club are as I understand it definitely not pro Trump

Stewart Robertson

What was the banner about ? What specifically was it referencing?

Stephen

Just hoping the ones praising the banner will be backing their stance by refusing to take a ticket for the next European game when we have a partial stadium closure and give it to someone who just wants to go to the football and support their team .. surely that’s the way it will work..?

John Smith

My summary is it was a protest against the trans lobby and possibly also the Ramadan event at the stadium.

John Smith

Completely agree Adam. Groups like Stonewall were set up for a good cause but they’ve been twisted and warped by some really sick individuals who want to pump wee kids full of drugs and take the knife to them. The club have to be made aware of exactly what this organisation have become. I would hope the new owners would be a bit more switched on to what’s happening here.

John Smith

The thing is Stephen, I think the club have been pushed in to doing this without realising how many of the support agree with the UB statement. Takeover or not I worry this will be another moment of real division in the fanbase. Ideally politics of any kind would be removed. Be it nationalism or the rainbow banner.

Robbie McCarroll

Self indulgent, self entitled and selfish childish idiotic behaviour from an absolute bunch of clowns with their daft wee banners and fireworks. i wish the club got the police involved when they see these things in the stadium at the time as something needs to give here.

Stewart Robertson

Right. I get it now. Is that why folk are slinging around terms like NAZIS ? On the Daily Update…….

Stuart McCall

When will the Castore range of Rangers rain ponchos be on sale?

John Smith

The word Nazi has unfortunately lost all meaning these days. It’s actually quite disrespectful I think to the countless relatives of victims of the actual nazis war crimes. It’s also quite dangerous because it means when actual white supremacists gain popularity the warnings will be dismissed or ignored

Bryan Watson

No1 has officially clarified it but reading the replies on twitter defending the banner and criticising the Rangers statement it seems to be culture war pish. Encapsulates a wide range of things from Immigration, the religon of Islam, LGBT etc.

Stephen

Pushed into it or not, no football club that wants to be successful or taken seriously will lead with a right wing agenda. We have to accept that the club are just going to do the same as any football club is going to do and evolve with the times. Personally I have no interest in politics in football but I don’t see the problem with welcoming all sections of the community to the club. I don’t see that as political. It’s just a decent thing to do.

John Smith

I think that’s true Stephen. Every corporation including football clubs will go whatever way they think the wind is blowing. That’s just business. But I also feel that it can get to a point where they can be certain double standards. But I agree with what you said and I respect the fact that you’re willing to have an open dialogue with me 👍

IAN OGILVY

100% correct today David 👏👏👏👏

Nom De Ploom

Farage is a Russian plant. He ran from Brexit ASAP when it got voted in because he knew it was a disaster. UKIP/Brexit was funded by Russian money via Aaron Banks (his wife's the daughter of Oligarch Evgeny Paderina) & Brexit was the fantasy of Aleksandr Dugin, head of Russias disinformation dept. Look up "Foundations of Geopolitics". Written in 1996. You'll see the playbook; Brexit, Trump, the lot. Throw in Boris (ha) having an open doors policy to immigration right after Brexit then planting Russian Oligarchs son Evgeny Lebedev in the House of Lords against British Intelligence advice. Why do you think they hid the report on Russian influence? Look it up yourself. There's loads of links between them all. Pay particular attention to Steve Bannon. It's all a ploy to break up the Wests dominance & immigration is just the tool to sow chaos & division in democratic countries then plant their puppets. Ex-KGB Yuri Bezmenov also predicted it in the 86'. Ideological Subversion they call it. https://www.vice.com/en/article/trump-russia-aaron-banks-brexit-farage/

Stephen

No problem John. I think much of it is business. Whether people agree with it or not there is no way the club is going to go the opposite direction on this. Any protests are just going to affect the club directly and won’t change anything. 👍

Heart and Hand

To be honest I think many supporters who agree with the sentiments still don’t think it should be flown in the stadium.

Graham Jones

This stuff needs to stop. If it doesn’t stop then deal with that whole section before y they get us banned from European competition. The club know exactly who they are dealing with, because they bent over backwards relocating them to a place of prominence in the stadium, putting hundreds of other season ticket holders noses out of joint in the process. This has come back to bite the club on the nose. Thankfully we seem to have a CEO with standards, and it sounds like he wont taker any of this crap. Remember that Patrick Stewart is on a committee at UEFA, so he will feel personally embarrassed by this stunt. I don’t want to get into politics, what represent isn’t my type of politics, but I’d rather we kept the politics out of the stadium. Let the club deal with them, and make sure that those responsible can’t harm the club again. I don’t know why you’re supposed ton defend the indefensible, so people asking for H&H to speak up on this are out of line. It’s not your place, and I doubt many of the podders would want to anyway. These are far -right views being expressed in our ground, and it needs to stop now. Why should the rest of us suffer for the actions of a group who seem to think they’re bigger than the club?

Craig

This kind of hateful gibberish being parroted across social media for so long that it crossed over into mainstream coverage is exactly why Rangers and other institutions need to continue flying the pride-progress flag without fear.

Adam cotter

Why do a football club need to fly a flag relating to where men want to put their penises? Are you aware of how the actual gay community feel about trans “movement”? How is it hateful to question performing irreversible surgery on pre-pubescent children? Are you aware of the suicide rates of those who undergo such surgeries in early life? Do you see why this discussion is fucking bizarre in a Rangers context and why citizens should always remain vigilant of their governments?

Adam cotter

Guys I have a serious question. Why was the LGBQT+ flag removed for the Islamic visit?

Stewart Robertson

I used to have a massive King Billy flag. Many agree with the sentiment, but probably best not flown in the Copland Front.

John Smith

Couldn’t have put it better Adam 👏 I can tell you that certainly a good number of my LGB friends feel the T are a hindrance to their movement and do not represent them. Anecdotal ? Sure but I think a lot of others in the community feel the same way.

John Smith

My grandad once took a King Billy flag in to Bairds bar Stewart. I wouldn’t recommend it 🤣

John Smith

Thanks for keeping Heart and Hand a place where we can have civil disagreements David. It’s one of the reasons I absolutely love this site and this community 💙

Stewart Robertson

Man, I came here for the Daily Update. Can we have more Cerny scooshing the beggars, and less Nazis v LGBTQQIP2SAA ?

John Smith

🤣 It was like a Muslim prayer event in the stadium I’m not entirely sure. But one of the Patreon made a cracking point saying the rainbow flag was removed for that event. So to me that’s just flat out hypocrisy. Never mind the fact that I don’t feel comfortable having our stadium used for religious reasons of any kind.

Luke

After the game, had a conversation with my old man and we both had no idea who that banner was targeted at and why. His politics are different from mine but we both agreed that only fannys would take political advice off a football fan group run by wee guys. They should stick to making tifos and creating an atmosphere, instead of relentlessly trying to make other fans hate them. I do not like the idea of Rangers ultras being associated with the far right.

Tom

Who could even begin to speculate!🤔🧠🧐

Jamie Scott

The lgbtq+ was during the game. If it was me, ban it all. Concentrate on the football.

Jim Milne

I don't know that it was Adam. The video from the Iftar is dark, but if you zoom in on the flags some of the lines that are visible makes it appear that it was still there that evening.

Adam cotter

I’ll admit I’m going on reports of others on this. My anger stems the point that football should remain as it has for over a century, particularly in industrial cities : an escape from the everyday bullshit. Not a theatre for the amplification of said bullshit.

Brett

Love the atmosphere that area of the ground brings but hate their opinionated approach to things - they are a fan group with a segregated area to support the club, not to use that area to voice their own nonsense that no one is interested in hearing/seeing.

Ashley_H

From memory I am sure that the flag was flown at the Motherwell game but was taken down for the subsequent home games. Perhaps we should focus on the UB’s action that’s gonna potentially lock fans out of games and certainly cost the club money 🤷‍♀️ ?

Ashley_H

I don’t even understand what statement the UB were trying to make so fair play to anyone who can decipher it enough to agree with it

Andy McNeill

It was flown for football v homophobia campaign. Lots of other clubs took part as part of the SFA.

Stewart Robertson

The Blue Brigade also need to bin that ACAB shite.

Alan Bradley

One of my favourite gigs Stewart, loved watching him going punk with Rael on the Lamb and other great tracks from the early solo stuff.
