Hey there, Adriana here - I'm back with the next installment of R is for Rangers and for the letter I, I’m  joined by special guest and all round Rangers authority David Herd for an in depth look at Ibrox, its rich history and significance to our club.

I’d love to hear your own stories and special memories of Ibrox, so pop them in the comments.  And while you’re there, let’s hear your suggestions for the letter J.  Until next time!

Great pod thanks guys very interesting 👍

David Herd

Thanks again Adriana for inviting me on to the pod, this has been a brilliant series. To think we weren't sure we could fill an hour on this subject! Looking forward to J, several great and important players in my lifetime who could feature.

Gary Dickson

I agree with David, the stands should be named according to historic significance like Absent Friends, Struth Main Stand, Galant Pioneers and lastly a look to the future, maybe something relating to the new direction the club is taking with the the proposed take-over. Just a thought. Thanks.

J is for Sandy Jardine

J is for Willie Johnston

Another absolutely superb episode. Great debating point. Who should belong on the Mount Rushmore of Rangers? Bill Struth was a colossus and it’s absolutely appropriate to name the main stand after him. Walter Smith is a legend, the greatest manager ever. The statute is a fitting tribute. Absent friends are represented but I wholly agree with Adriana and David. A stand in their memory would be so fitting, appropriate and representative of their support to our great club. What a great idea, something I hadn’t considered, cannot fathom a downside for and would get completely behind.

The pleasure was all mine, David! I think we probably could’ve talked for another hour, given half the chance 🤣 It was great having you on, I’ll look forward to chatting to you again soon!

John Smith

I love this question Gordon. I’ll need some time but I’ll get back to you on that.

Adriana Spina

Thanks for listening, Gordon! All great points - I think it’s something that we could debate all day about, but I do believe that we have so many legends (and hopefully many more to come!) that it’s impossible to narrow them down to just four that merit a stand. It makes more sense to pay tribute to truly historic moments or, like you say, absent friends. It’s a fascinating debate, for sure! Appreciate your kind comments!

John Smith

Thank YOU for an amazing show Adriana ! All your guests have been brilliant but it’s you that makes it 😎

John Smith

Thank you for a brilliant walk through the past David. I thought I knew a fair bit about the stadiums history but you taught me some real gems 👍

Alan Shaw

J is for mo Johnson. That should bring up a lively debate

David Herd

3 Js in the Barcelona Bears alone in Sandy Jardine, Derek Johnstone and Willie Johnston, with another, Colin Jackson, only missing because of injury. Throw in Mojo and there's 5 very worthy candidates and at least an hour's discussion.

My school had a trip to ibrox in 1971 and among the highlights was the climb to the press box above the Main Stand

Brilliant show as always We visited after we had beaten Sporting Lisbon in the Cup Winners Cup and we were in the Rangers News that week - still a huge moment of personal pride

John Myles

i agree david the copland should be named after the 66.

Re: Ibrox disasters, I'm no engineer so I can't imagine the math going into building a stand that can 1. Hold like 15k of the average supporters' weight (I'm sure there's a joke there somewhere) and 2. Also safely hold those 15k supporters jumping wildly at a European match goal. Insane math I'm sure

Eddie Cotter

This is my favourite show. A 48 year old, Rangers fan all my life and I've learned so much. I dread Z when it's over!

Kev Roberts

Great listen really enjoyed it

Adriana Spina

Eddie! That’s so kind of you! Providing the other podders haven’t got fed up with my daft questions by then, I’m sure we’ve got more than enough content to go around again! Thanks so much for listening 💙
