The biggest and best thing Scottish Fitba could do to improve is remove the dick thats in charge! But, that ain't going to happen.

Andrew Watson

The SPFL has one internationally recognised game, the Old Firm Derby. The SPFL refer to it as "the Glasgow derby". Sums up how well our football authorities promote the game....

Graham Roy

So the SPFL release this story on the same day as Celtic news! Hmm what a coincidence!

KennyY

Can’t we just play Celtic every week. It would be a skoosh

David Herd

The 10 team league is the second worst structure possible. The only one worse is the current one. A split that gives inequal fixtures, and sometimes more away than home games is crazy. 14 teams, split top 6 and bottom 8. All the top 6 get equal fixtures with 10 post split fixtures. Bottom 8 get 4 extra games to make up financial hit. Means 36 games for us, same as the 10 team option mooted.

It's my secret hope that the American investment will take us to another level. By that i mean not only restoring us to power but to use that power to systematically rebuild Scottish football from the ground up. The idiots in charge are bereft of ideas morality and credibility.I hope we have some ruthless barstewards lined up to destroy the coloquilism that is the SFA and the SPFL. We can only tackle that by being successful on the park.

Scott Watson

More away games than home games is bonkers, I'm amazed there's never been a bigger fuss about it when a team finished 1 point behind someone else and had to play them away 3 times

Craig Murray

Just expand the league to 20 teams, play home and away total 38 games.

Andy Barnett

The current setup here in Israel is akin to this. 14 team top-flight. 26 fixtures. Top 6/Bottom 8 split. 36 total fixtures for top 6. 33 fixtures for bottom 8. There is almost always an exciting title race but that’s because 4-5 teams can actually win the title here. The bottom 8 can be boring though. Still miles better than what we currently have in Scotland.

Johnnie Mitchell

Great words at the start David, very well said.

Martin Boyd

Please no to 10 team league , awful idea. The split is an idea which I didn’t like to start with but now it has grown on me as it means we sometimes don’t have to play teams like , Killie for a 4th time. So the 14 team model splitting into 8 and 6 would get my vote .

Jim McCutcheon

Thanks David great pod again well said 👏

Luke Randall

Only positive of the 10 team league would be no split as the split is absurd. Other than that, terrible idea. It's choosing between two terrible options

John Smith

Rest in Peace to the legend Val Kilmer

Stephen

Doubt the smaller teams would vote to have less games/gate money and less chances to fill their stadiums against Rangers/Celtic.

Bluelacoste

12 teams play each other home and away once. Split after 22 games and then top 6 play each other home and away again. None of this is going to Aberdeen 3 times and them getting their lap dogs at home 3 times.

Bluelacoste

Less games, 4 OF games and the incentive for teams top 6 another 2 games guaranteed at home to the OF

BlueJay

Bring in 16 teams asap. We almost always meet them in cups each year to make up the difference anyway

David Herd

Doubt there will be the required votes for any change to the present set up. Unfortunately.

Nicholas Dickson

I know this subject isn’t for this platform , but I can’t help thinking the 10 team league idea was leaked on the same day as the settlement case over the city on purpose . We know who really runs the spfl and it distracted the media a bit from other side of city story

Derek Stevenson

Well said and well chosen words David. There is no gloating nor oneupmanship when it comes to such a serious matter. Celtic? A club that runs to the police over skooshed water from a bottle yet over decades they covered up, and even worse re-employed known paedophiles. Two so-called legends of their club, both now dead, will be stained forever for their actions. Shameful it took so long and Scottish authorities had the fear to speak or act.

Leslie Hibbert

14 team league Played each other twice for 26 games Top 6 play each other home and away for 36 games Bottom 8 play each other home and away for 40 games (highly, highly unlikely to be in Europe) 14th down, 13th play off against 2nd in championship

Niall MacKay

We literally lost out on a trophy because Butland spilled a straightforward shot at an attackers feet. Until then I'd been on the same opinion as Cammy Bell, not since. He's go a blunder in him nearly every second game and his kicking gives up far too many chances too.

Calum Robertson

With you mentioning about recording Seagulls later on, it was 30 years ago this week when Cantona said his infamous quote

stefan strzelecki

Totally agree on the idiocy of a ten team league. The SPFL have likely been alarmed , that substantive sports franchises , are now investing in the league. It’s typical of the SPFL , they float their incompetent governance , at a time, of potential transformative investment , that could revolutionise the entirety of the professional game.

Andy MacArthur

I find the timing of the league reconstruction announcements on the day Celtic had to finally pay the victims interesting! Also strange that they bring in the new euro playoff rule for the season Celtic play qualifiers. Both purely coincidental of course …

Heart and Hand

Like I say, I’m honestly not looking to point-score on it. But I’ll tell you what, we should never accept lectures from THAT club about anything. They have no right.

David Kiltie

David, apropos the Aribo deal, I asked you after the EPL playoff last May if we might be due anything due to Southampton’s promotion, but you confirmed there wouldn’t be since they were in the EPL when we sold him in 2022.

Leslie Hibbert

I actually have a 7 page document on what I'd implement for Scottish football from a couple years ago...I meant to send it to yourself or hoggy, but when doncaster agreed to that nonsense sky 10 year extension thing or whatever post covid, I gave up on it - they don't deserve my masterplan.

David Kiltie

It’s amazing to think that the current set up (12 teams with a split after 33 games) has now been in place for a quarter of a century. It has had its critics but it strikes me that anger has long since given way to acceptance. To be fair there have been seasons when it has thrown up exciting ends to the season, with close races for the title, for European places and to avoid relegation. A long-standing gripe of the “jobber” teams is that the 11-1 rule exists for the benefit of the Old Firm. If the idea of reverting to a 10 team Premiership is pushed forward then the rule will be manna from heaven for the likes of Ross County, St Johnstone and Dundee.

Colin Mathie

Any reconstruction that gets shot of the dumb af split is ok by me.

Heart and Hand

Yeah I had a brain freeze and wasn’t sure if he had gone when in championship then remembered in mid-sentence it was year before.

David Kiltie

Thanks, David. I had hoped that perhaps Ross Wilson might have done us a good turn! On that point, a bit galling in a way to see Nottingham Forest 3rd in the EPL.

John Palmer

Typical Scottish Football going backwards and not forwards. We all know that an expanded League would be better with less games v each other which would make it more competitive. It would also be more competitive if they relegate 2 Team's, and promote 2 from the League's below and replicate the Playoff setup that's used and tremendously successful and exciting in England. The SPFL needs to grow a set and stop allowing Sky and any other TV companies push them around. Our game is outdated and boring, I love my team but the League is Pish

Allan

Scottish football Lol.

Allan

The "can't change due to the finance" argument is pure farce. Being overseas I watch all domestic competition games on RTV. Other than that mob, I can't remember the last away fixture where any ground has been full. And the more recent trend where Rangers (and I assume that lot too) have had the away allocation reduced just furthers the mockery. Scottish football continues to self-harm.

Robert Mckenzie

Oh, put 2+ 2 together mate. It’s no coincidence that such a retro (backwards) controversial announcement emerges (with no chance of doing anything but taking up air time) on the day it breaks about the celtic abuse admission and payments… Maybe I’m just cynical🙄…
