Hoggy is back and flies solo this week with everyone's thoughts on all things Rangers.

  • Out of Europe - too little too late in Bilbao, although the ref didn't help

  • What now for Barry - is he the man or are we agreed the short term is the short term?

  • 5 games to go until the summer and the expectation of takeovers, managers, players, and the question of "what next?"

  • And of course, this week in history!

Enjoy!

Thanks Hoggy. You asked for views on players, and it looks like I'm first to do so. It's really hard to tell though. Under Gerrard, I remember being shocked and worried that Halliday was in the squad, but he earned that place. Be interesting to look back at this list come Christmas and see any names have stayed on and proved me wrong. Anyway, here goes. Time's up: Butland (once faith has gone it won't come back); Tav (reluctantly, but once legs have gone they don't come back); Dessers (I don't trust him, he's the player most likely to put his body on the line in Europe but jog about against St Mirren) Jettison due to injury record: Ridvan, Sterling, Danilo Dump as simply not good enough: Pröpper, Bajrami, McCausland (all three of these probably can do the odd turn - but players like Nsiala, Cameron and Curtis should be given the game time instead Contracts up, don't renew: Lawrence, Fernandes Contracts up, prob can't renew, but would if price was right: Kasanwirjo, Cerny, Hagi Keep, young player who can improve: Jefte, Nsiala, Raskin, Diomande, Rice, Curtis, Barron, Igamane In his own category Cortes - who should probably be in the young player to improve list, but - really? Keep: Kelly (as back up), Souttar (captain?). So 2 senior players and 8 players of 23 or less, though Raskin in particular is probably a senior player. I missed out Balogun by accident, initially so editing post. Injury record and age means he should go, but from the outside he seems a good influence on the squad, and an excellent defender. I wouldn't be bothered if he got another year. The one I have on the exit list I am least sure about is Danilo, but he's never been reliable. The one I think most likely to survive is Tav. I think the slide is irreversible but would I be surprised if he spent next season playing one game a week, with a young right back doing the others? No, I wouldn't.

Keep Igmane, Raskin & Souttar. Rest can go. Must go is butland, tav, Danilo, bajrami & dessers if want to win a league title. 5 of them not good enough or reliable & consistent
