The biggest problem with general youth football (pro set up) I the lack of leagues. At U16 level the kids are then funnelled into a u18 team, there is no u17 team league (there is 1 cup they do to bridge the 6 month gap because U16 and below play a season from Jan-Jan, but once they go to u18 they follow a traditional football season). So you have some already u18 players and a handful of the u16s continue, the rest are released. Pro Acadamies are also number restricted, not per team, but in overall numbers. So in the case of the older teams in particular they don't hold as many players and bring players up to sit on the bench (esp goalies), further reducing the talent pool. Then when thy have surpassed the u18 level the next level is B Team/reserve, there Is no u19, 20or even 21s now. What we have as a reserve league is pointless and most Pro teams choose not to compete in it. So from u18s onwards there is yet another massive exodus of players flooding into the Juniors league development teams. Players that maybe had potential but due to lack of Pro under age teams/leagues get sent back out into the juniors and promptly forgotten about, no matter how much progress and development they might then make, as in my experience the Pro clubs can be really narrow minded in their approach to scouting young talent (I.e if they haven't been recruited by a team before the age of 16 (or by the age of 8 it sometimes feels) even if they go on a trial, they still don't get a fair crack . In England they have unders teams and leagues all the way to u23... I think we are losing lots of talent in Scotland in genral due to all these factors.

We take other teams young players too. It’s just the way it is. No problem with it at all
