Okay, I’m expecting a few “at me’ on this. Like you guys , I’ve been mulling this over for years. This is where the Sporting Director sets the strategy and it’s the job of the manager to tactically deliver that strategy. It’s simple one - win. How you do that is where it gets interesting and where we have to break away from ideologies and do something a bit different. The Scottish league is hard to play in if you step outside certain parameters. You have to be big, mobile and be able to turn defences. Celtic have been a specialist at that for a decade; they swarm Scottish teams in the first 30 mins. Gerrard; win ratio vs budget was poor if not awful. 1 trophy in 13, which was delivered behind close doors does not convince. Personally, I hated the Gerrard style of play with one up front and an inability to beat the block. If we want to win in Scotland (which is ALL that matters) we need to look at winners. If it is about beating the other 10 and a strong defence i.e. pragmatism before magnetism, then McInnes is the Walter-esque option. Ask yourself this, what kind of team would Walter have built without the budget? I’m pretty sure it’d have been close to what Killie is now. Hard to beat with a bit of grit. This is where it gets wild. Strap in. If you want to turn it around in one close season with a guy with a proven track record? You want to get a manager who will wind it right up them and be a Mojo-esque earthquake? It’s a simple choice. The soon to be sacked Big Ange. A good guy, professional to a fault and knows how to win in Scotland. It’d also be pure psychological warfare. Is it about copying what they did? Of f***ing course it is! They won two league titles off that approach on a relatively meagre budget. As a support, we can’t afford to be sniffy. These are the days for wicked pragmatism. If it doesn’t win points it’s zero use. Pretty patterns of play? No use. Technically gifted footballer? No use. A ‘did okay’ manager who doesn’t know the Scottish game? No use. Wicked pragmatism chaps or you may not see a title for many years. A slow build strategy is an excuse for failure. Let’s not complicate football and how Rangers have won historically (because it isn’t recently). We’ve done it by getting 11 guys out there that have the bottle, desire and general nasty to win games of football when you’ve got Them-minded lads on jobber teams playing out of their skin. I get it, you get it, Barry gets it, Walter knew it, so let’s get a bit meaner, a bit nastier and spread fear like it’s Nutella at a weans birthday party. That starts by getting the ‘F*** YOU!’, back into Rangers.

Where I disagree is that McInnes is not ‘a Walter type’. He’s an average SPFL manager. Any attempt to see Walteresque qualities on to him is projection. He doesn’t have the quality to be a Rangers manager, it’s really that simple. We’d all love a new Walter but he doesn’t exist. Hiring McInnes is trying to recapture the past by deluding ourselves he’s something he isn’t.

In my opinion, Gerrard is a non-starter for us down to the fact of how he left us which puts his expectations at an even higher ceiling which I don't think he's capable of reaching and he will not be given the time he got before. My wife, who doesn't even bother with Rangers or Football as a Sport, she even said "I don't think it would be a good idea for Gerrard to go back to Rangers". Now that's coming from somebody who doesn't follow the Game or Club, for Me that's pretty damning because even a novice can see it. We need a Manger who has time in the game with a track record that will get us excited, we Do Not need Newbies or Project Managers in place to see how they go. We're done with that rubbish. If the new owners and board are serious, then it'll be shown with their Appointment of the new Gaffer as well Players In and Out.

Muscat will be nowhere fucking near it. These guys aren't coming in to spend tens of millions then take an absolute punt on Muscat - who for whatever reason has been overlooked for every job he's been linked with in Europe since his utterly horrendous spell in Belgium. Look what the 49ers have done with Leeds, sensible signings and a proven manager at that level. There's no chance on this earth that they wade in with Muscat.

So it’s a yes for Gerrard and Muscat but a no for Rose? Only one of those has been working at the right end of a competitive league
