If Thelwell and the new boy are given a pass for poor signings at Everton because they were also tasked with reducing the wage bill, then the same courtesy should be extended to Koppen. To those outraged by the Cortes signing—where were your criticisms at the time? Everyone’s an expert in hindsight. And I assume you were all vocally opposed to signing Sima permanently due to his injury record? From the outside looking in, Koppen did reasonably well: he lowered the squad's average age, increased potential resale value, and successfully explored new markets. In reality, like Clement, he was set up to fail in a dysfunctional footballing structure where almost no one could ever succeed. No individual should ever be solely responsible for any signing. If the board were furious at the Cortes signing, then they should be looking at themselves for abdicating responsibility to one person... I wish him well for the future.
