Thanks to everyone who sent in questions for this Q&A – the response was fantastic. We had so many that we’ve split it into two parts. In this episode we cover the first two themes: Martin’s philosophy and identity, and systems and shapes, including the debate around 3-5-2 and playing with two strikers. We’ll return to the rest of the questions in the next show.

I know we’ve cried out for wingers for 10 years now but we’ve cried even harder for a proper front two since Dado left and Nacho drifted into the super sub role IMO. Tactically, I wouldn’t mind seeing us give 4-diamond two a go on occasion. Full backs being what we’ve been used to for the last ten, Barron/Raskin as the pivot supported by running 8s like Cameron and Raskin/Barron. Gassama/Antman/Thelo all able to play that free role hopefully better than Pena last time out. Upto any of the striking options as a two. We are a club who need to break a block 9/10 games in domestic football. Pin the opponents back 5/4 in with two strikers supported by a line of three in the press. Anchorman plays false full back on the side we spring. Cover comes from the opposite 8 if needed in transition. It’s all systematic issues rather than selection for me… I’d then use Walter’s Way midweek and revert to 4-5-1 variations based on who we face. Thoughts gents?
