Another area of the corruption was the European component. From memory UEFA was trying to determine what to do with the next year’s champions and Europa leagues. They had asked national leagues to issue guidance on their plans. Either to declare end-league positions or to declare null and void. In the case of the latter (which most leagues were considering if not played to completion), UEFA were trying to determine how to allocate European places. Some big hitters in some big leagues would not have been in the prestige competitions if just going off league placings. I think Real were maybe weirdly low in the league? As a result UEFA had a scheme to allocate placings based on average European coefficient points over the previous few years. In Scotland, that would have put us into the Champion’s League. Obviously none of that came to pass and most leagues played to conpletion but UEFA were brainstorming emergency measures. They had a deadline for national associations to declare their outcomes. The SPFL declared Celtic champions. However the European deadline occurred before the SPFL vote was finalised. So they had submitted a decision to end the league and give it to Celtic before this was actually ratified. This explained why they were willing to go so far in their corruption to get the result they wanted. I’ve always been very sure these stories were all covered separately at the time without really being linked. Don’t think I’m going totally tinfoil here…
