Celtic 3-0 Rangers Postmatch Reaction 2 Feb 2022

Dreadful performance from Rangers sees us gubbed at Mordor. David reflects on a howling display.

Gio is looking very very soft for me so far. He’s not particularly inspiring.

From the outside it looks like Gio lacks passion and today that’s how the team played.

To quote Martin "you know it when you see it" I know what I'm seeing, and I'm fucking sick of it.

Apologies, I know we're a pro Rangers and civilized space, but this has all the hallmarks of...bad news. I've got my hopes and thoughts, and that includes them progressing in Europe whereas we should bow out against Dortmund. It would be unimaginably unforgivable to surrender this title, that should already be sewn up. Do we, as a collective fan media, have to give Gio a shake and wake him up?!?!? It's just fucking surreal, and potentially perilous

Utterly fkn awful performance! Improvement needed all over the pitch and thankfully we have players coming back. Gio and the coaching staff now need to show their worth, as blowing that lead in the league is in no way acceptable. I don’t care about what they did last year, that’s gone. What matters now is what happens going forward. Get a grip Rangers!

Already looks like GvB is out his depth as our manager, the warning signs have been there since before Xmas . They looked miles ahead of us whereas we looked like a team cobbled together in a few months, this is looking more and more like a costly mistake.

Craig Stevens

When a player is utter pish from the first whistle it's up to the manager to react ruthlessly. Borna was a fuckin' disgrace and 'played' like a fan who'd won a competition to play for us but he wasn't alone in that dept. We've now shipped 7 points in jig time and this has to end NOW. From signing Aaron Ramsey to an utter disgraceful shit-show in a matter of 48 hours. I'm absolutely devastated after that but we must continue to fully back the players and management staff, we must back them....

Can’t disagree with anything said there David. 😣

Pains me to say it but we have vastly underestimated the quality of their new signings (only 2 of their starters were there last season), I’d convinced myself the silly dropped points wouldn’t matter in the end because they would drop more but that doesn’t seem likely. Looking at our next 4 games 12/12 points is non negotiable if we are to stay in the race

Gio seems uninspiring and like many foreign managers seems to have underestimated the scottish game. We thought he wouldn’t as he played here. But it’s changed a lot since he played here. He’s going to learn and adapt fast or he won’t last. As for people calling for Tav to be stripped of the captaincy - Do you actually think a piece of material on his arm stops McGregor, Goldson, Jack, Davis, Ramsay, and Arfield from leading and instructing and being vocal on the pitch? We have many leaders. Tav is the club captain, he was chosen by Gerrard and Gary McAllister who both captained their clubs and countries. I am sure they know what credentials they are looking for in a captain. And he kept it for the 4 years with them so he must do many things right that a captain should. Such as - On time Never missing sessions Looks after himself and sets an example Is approachable Players and staff like and trust him Doesn’t go out at weekends partying Has been at the club through the transitions Never hides on the pitch even when off it Scores big goals Has carried us many times Loves the club Just because he doesn’t scream and about like many dinosaur fans expect Captains who lead without snarling all game (off the top of my head)- Pirlo Del Piero Giggs Kane Benzema David Silva De Bruyn Steven Davis Fernandinho Hazard Captains don’t need to be the “hard man” on the pitch. There’s nothing stopping Goldson, McGregor, jack etc being bullish and giving a few home truths to the players. Doesn’t take an armband to allow them to do that. Diallo looked like a child playing a man’s game. Literally is. Felt sorry for him. Kent isn’t consistent enough to be a rangers winger and needs sold. I would rather a more industrious less skilful winger who gives you a 7/10 week in week out rather than Kent. Bassey can’t be blamed. He was picked in front of a natural CB. Weird one. Barisic is a huge concern. Has his head gone? Is it because he’s having to defend more? Who knows but that old firm performance was up there with the worst I have ever seen and that’s saying something as we have had a few sickeners. We let them play their game and that was the worst thing. Even Dundee Utd at the weekend stopped them playing their game at parkhead and nearly came away with a draw. We would have been delighted with a draw in the title race. I think Gio has 2 games to save his rangers and managerial career. That’s how it works up here. He and the players will get my full support as always but I am really worried Gio is out of his depth. It takes certain “character” to do well here. Souness, smith, Gerrard possessed this. It’s not about uefa coaching badges and who you have played for although they help. You need that little bit of dog in you. Lennon had it, even mccoist had it. Warburton, Pedro, murty did not and I hope Gio doesn’t join that list. Il be there Sunday to watch hopefully - the response - the revival - and the switch in mindset that will send us on a winning run till the end of the season.

I honestly don't care about the performance, we just need to beat both Hearts + Hibs, cause that last night was disgraceful.

Martin Davies

The players and management need to take their medicine and get back on the horse. Legendary Rangers sides have suffered games like that over the years, but they all had the strength of character to learn from the experience and move on. 3 points on Sunday and a decent performance is non negotiable. We need to go on a winning run, no slip ups. We've lost momentum and need to regain it quickly. The fans have an important role to play too. Despite feeling seriously let down by the team last night, we need to get 100% behind them, starting at Ibrox at the weekend.

Barry Drysdale

I struggle to understand how gio can set us up so defensively and so fkn passive. Of all the sides he played for they were good on the eye and were definitely not set up in such a negative manner. Let out players out of that rigid formation and let them go do their thing with the handbrake off ffs
