Typing this as I listen but you're bang on David, the questions you intend to ask are the questions many of us are asking, hopefully you can get the answers and an explanation as to where its went wrong over the last few weeks.

Jamie Walker

Not for nothing, but the team have generally been shite since Ally’s Adventures and Feeling Blue podcasts appeared! Get them in the bin until the leagues done!

William Black

Looking forward to hearing how Gio responds to the questions. As you said David, he is either setting this team up to not play with any tempo, or, they aren’t listening / getting the message. In no reality is it OK for a Rangers player to not go and shut a man down or track his runner. Appalling last night. At least Jack came on and showed us heart and demanded the ball.

Paul

Spot on David. Those questions need to be asked. Look forward to his response.

Doug Young

Last night was a shock, but in the cold light of day not a massive surprise. Kent, Barisic and Roofe have not played well all season. Bassey looked like he'd been let out of jail when he went to his natural position at LB. Even Greegsy wasn't shouting his usual shouts and as someone said elsewhere, Goldson's first reaction to any error is to point the finger at someone else. I think Kamara and Barisic thought they would get a move this window and look a bit miffed and I agree with you, David, players like Tav look like they've "done their stint". Sakala on the left-wing when Kent was suspended was twice the threat of Kent. This should precipitate chances for others on Sunday and it would be a shock for at least half the team not to be different.

QB_72

Very apt tune 👍

Fraser Martin

McLaughlin, Balogun, jack, Ramsey and Morelos is a whole new and better spine.

Tamus

Disgusting from our team last night. Just dross too many cant be arsed, Kent, Kamara, Goldson im talking about you. Barasic and Tavernier cant defend.. This did not come as a surprise Sheep away County away Tims away utter bawz, even Livi was turgid....... Why play Bassey at centre half when Balogun is fit. Ffs

Adam

I'm blaming Cammy, Gio was unbeaten until he came back... Tongue firmly in cheek.

Scott King

Always “enjoy” (bad choice of word I suppose) Davie after these type of defeats, tends to always capture the tone and speaks like most of us feel, last night was disgusting, embarrassing but we need to come out flying on Sunday with a few changes in the line up, now time for players and management team to stand up and be counted

Tamus

I thought greegs was at fault on all 3 goals. First 2 are savable, last one just come off your line and catch the f* *king ball. Just once

John

6-7 changes totally agree hope Gio doesn’t come out with same old “give same players a chance to redeem themselves”

Luke

Great questions to ask Instead of a generic " how important is it" question.

chris smith

For me, Gio acts like one of the Corporate high heid yins from Central Office … its all nice and smiley but when he speaks he says nothing meaningful, smiles a bit more and you are left with the ‘corporate-speak’ impression that there is no passion at all behind the words …

David Larosa

Honestly can't disagree with any of that. Will say that Sakala's finishing has been very poor when he's through on goal though.

Paul Miller

Could it be that Gio didn't change much to the playing style when he joined, the players got the new manager bounce and the results were very good indeed. He then worked on a new style of play during the winter break that neither the players or the fans understand, and the poor results are testiment to that.

Andrew Finlayson

Yep for me Mclaughin should be the No 1, i thought Mcgregor should’ve saved that 2nd, Balogun at CB, Bassey at LB, Jack in the middle with Alfie up top and we are a much stronger unit. Barasic won’t feature again in the league after that last night, shat himself.

Martin Mcinnes

Borna was woeful, can only think he maybe thought he'd be away last day of window, similiar to his performances back start of season. Bassey in at LB, Balagon, Jack, Fashion and Alfie for Sunday for a start. Be interesting which player fronts the press with the manager, should be captain IMO

Neal

Thanks for keeping things in perspective David as always loved your update today, that said I've felt for some time Kent should be sold for good money and bring in players who are committed to actually playing 90 minutes not the occasional 5-10 when he feels like it! Welcome back Ryan Jack!!

PR__92

For me I generally don't get too up or too down with results and forget about it the next day but I've not been able to get over that Ross County result I think that might be a result we look back on at the end of the season I'm not conceding the league but it's got to improve NOW. My family are Celtic fans so I see a decent amount of games Celtic are a decent team that play well and are hungry so if we win this League we really need to be at it we need to treat every league game like a Cup Final we likely won't win the last 14 games but we need to fight in every single one of them players that are going through the motions need to get the right mindset you don't have any bigger incentive that Champions League football next season. If the players ain't up for it we won't win the league if we go into to each game with the right mindset we will.

Douglas Innes

As I said pre match the team who wants it the most invariably wins , the thing about both our Fullbacks they aren't good tacklers and the game was won and lost in that area , their fullbacks was touch-tight on wingers whilst ours stand 10-15 yards off giving their attackers the incentive at attack at will and their attackers gambled and ran into space which they denied us in return .........

PR__92

The questions will get asked but the answers will be generic everyone is media trained nowadays so press conferences mean nothing now obv you get the one offs like NL last year but overall it's the same. You might as well just scrap them and put out injury updates on social media

Stuart Borland

Jeez you should give the team talk for Sunday david

stefan strzelecki

Enjoyed that airing today . The more we get this out , the clearer the message to the football department of the club. They all let the support down . No title can be won in modern football without some choppy waters, as has been said on this pod many times, last season was an beautiful anomaly. It’s about today, these players need to be fitter, more tactical , creative , dynamic, reactive, aggressive , and clinical . Perhaps it’s time they articulated a modicum of passion both on and off the pitch . When they beat Hearts I want to hear them call out what it means to represent this football club. When David asks them questions in a press conference I want a response that takes account of the optics. Giovanni will need to be more expressive , self reflective post match win, lose, or draw. Some of the the Rangers support are not familiar with Carl Jung or Friedrich Nietzsche. Thanks. For the pod David . Couldn’t have been easy.

Alan Cowan

RTV interview with GVB was interesting regarding his leadership comments about Ryan Jack and subsequently Ryan Jack does the post match RTV .interview. Could a change of captaincy be on the cards, I think is is required.

Jack Fletcher

Don't see Gio taking much responsibility for the abysmal performance?

Allan Osborne

Brilliant summation of the support's hurt. I wish you were in the dugout on Sunday David. Good luck in getting the answers we all want tomorrow, because he doesn't give much away ordinarily.

Doug

Perfect song choice.

William

Don't disagree with any if this pod, please make sure that Gio listens to this daily update.

Jack Fletcher

Agree with most everything you said, David. Well said. Great pod, thank you.

Rona Bluebell

Second thing I’ve listened to today. Have avoided everything and gone full blown hermit. Thank you, has made me feel slightly better. Just a smidgen.

Harry Padda

Any thoughts on this - starting Diallo was a mistake and Aribo should have been on the right. Davis or jack should have started in CM with kamara and Arfield. At least then the midfield would have been able to cope and help defensively in the first half. I feel like tactically we got it wrong as we knew they were going to go full force in the first half and then get tired in the second but wrong tactics does not forgive the attitude last night. I can accept defeat but I can’t accept not trying.

Gazza G

You really summed up pretty much everything I was feeling. Thanks

Harry Padda

David, can you possible also question why the full backs are now pushing forward? When Gio arrived the full backs defended - I thought we were solid when we did that

Alan Cowan

Hi Douglas. Im in total agreement with your comments regarding our full backs. If GVB is playing defensive then Tavernier and Barasic shouldn't play as they cannot defend. How many instances have we saw Tavernier and Barasic left for dead with a packet winger and one of our CB having to cover. Last night was the final straw for both of them as far as I'm concerned and they should be shipped out ASAP.

Martin Boyd

Summed up well as usual. Some players are as stale as week old bread , have been the same all season, manager change got them to improve briefly but they need to be gone in the summer. Kent , Barasic should be first out the door it’s no good having talent if you don’t use it.

Ally Mair

Saw a clip online of barasic running towards mcgregor then turning back and running back into his own half and you can clearly see mcgregor call barasic a shitebag twice . Never ever would I let one of those moonhowlers call me a shitebag I would have got a yellow card to going through the wee wanker! We need fight in this team no rangers team should ever surrender to them we have better technical players but it means nothing if u don't have fight and desire for the Jersey

Alastair McGeoch

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but we needed a bit of wattinacio last night. Sit in low block, 4 at back, 5 across midfield and close down the space. Once they were knackered in second half we could have then gone opened up more and taken the game to them. Instead, we sat in in an attacking formation and let them have the midfield from the off. Fair enough, but 4 mins in it was clear it wasn’t working and GVB didn’t change anything. He made changes once game was already gone at half time. That’s a worry

John Cairns

On your Goldson blaming others point. You are 100% correct my friend. I had to laugh watching RTV earlier this week. There was a poor pass during one of those playing the ball round two in the middle drills. The ball went out between him and Bassey. He instantly blamed Bassey, making sure the coach knew that it wasn't his fault. He's the softest 6'4" centre back I've witnessed in a Rangers shirt in a long time. Never been a fan sadly.

James Tucker

Excellent listen again, David. You eloquently put into words how we are all feeling this morning and somehow we all feel just a little bit better for it after that horror show from last night. Well done, sir, and keep up the great work

Alastair McGeoch

I can also guarantee if one of our players was out there in a protective mask one of theirs would have tested out how confident we were with our injury

Adam Copeland

This is the major positive of fan media at pressers. You can ask what we all want to know. Hope the questions go well. We deserve an answer!

Mike Black

Could not agree more with your points/opinion David

Doug Young

Me neither. Goldson and Tav are good players but not great players and certainly not as good as they think they are. Tav can be good, sometimes really good but when he's bad...oh my god. Are we too demanding? Don't think so. As David said, at the very least we want some fight.

Ryan Stewart

Got to be honest I’m very sceptical of Gio. Didn’t really buy in to the massive improvement that many saw when he first came in. Results were good no doubt but performances very mixed. I have absolutely no idea what our style of play is, with or without the ball. Without the ball we are so bad, absolutely no intensity, just sit off teams and we are still so easy to play through. Occasionally we decide to press but even when we do there’s no organisation to it at all. With the ball, other than pass it between the CBs then launch it long we have absolutely no patterns of play, no link up between players, no overlaps, no players interchanging positions, no fluidity. It’s so basic, get the ball to the wide man who then runs in a straight line and tries to put a cross in or have a shot. Massive questions to be asked and much improvement needed. Not only do we need to win these next 2 games, we need to see performances that suggest we actually have a style of play. Apologies for the long rant 😂

greg sutherland

Was there any serious interest in Kent in Jan?

Neil Wilson

Social media is usually the dirt worst. After bad results or performances, it's full of anger and hot takes. You also usually get the I told you so brigade out trying to score imaginary brownie points. Usually best to avoid at the best of times, nevermind after a result like last night. Interesting to hear what GVB will answer with at the press conference tomorrow.

Michael Adamson

Hi David, thanks for that, we are all feeling the same pain as you. One thing though, I agree we need a real positive response on Sunday, but it also needs that carried through a number of games. Probably winning all domestic games up to and including April 3rd and beyond. This Rangers squad should be capable of winning 10 - 12 domestic games on the bounce

Brian Rae

In the spfl, we are playing against mostly limited players, pressing them is essential, no ifs or buts. Feyenoord are the 3rd team in the Netherlands, GVB is now at the no 1 club, his current tactical mentality is unacceptable imo and he has no more goodwill left. Short term, the next two games are must win, anything less and he's toast, whether it's immediate or seasons end. I agree David, the squad is stale but it's a combination of that and poor recruitment over the last 3 windows. We're still relying on players we've had for over 3 seasons. Who could you class as a nailed on starter that came in after 2020? Not many, if any. Mark Allen signed 7 of those who started last night and Tav who signed prior to his arrival. That leaves our 2nd string striker, an on loan youth player and our 2nd string left back playing CB. For me, that tells it's own story regarding recruitment and our player turnover strategy. Still livid.

Ian McHutchison

Thanks for that David, hit exactly the right tone. I was going to give it a swerve but I needed to cauterise the wound. Thanks, “The man in the kitchen” as Shane christened me on the CROPod.

Tamus

I thought your name was Ian McKitchen they way they were banging on. Silly Colonials

Allan

Brave of you David to watch that again.

Niall MacKay

'No Rangers fan should have to go through that' should be pinned to the dressing room door until the last of the starting line up leaves the club! We have put up with a lot through the last ten years, I think the saddest part of last night was realising we hadn't completely escaped these horror show performances.

Jeffff96

kent was trying he didn’t hide and was doubled up on everytime he got the ball then he had awful borna behind him , think we can cut him a little slack

Robert White

Absolutely. Kent, Arfield and Mcgregor for me the only ones with pass marks 1st half.

Chris Wight

The phrase I used last night to describe this team at the moment is “found their level”. I think there are too many players who came to this club thinking that they could have an easy season or two here and get a move to the EPL. For many of them it hasn’t turned out that way; Kent, Goldson, Kamara, Barasic. I think that the lack of interest from the EPL has seriously disheartened these players Connor Goldson is the prime example. Has hardly tried a leg this season, whenever we concede he’s the first to point a finger, even if it’s his fault. He was expecting a multitude of EPL offers this month and he’s had fuck all. Hopefully this puts a rocket up his arse to actually put some performances in and that applies to the rest of them.

David Innes

Agree - I think this has been a big part of the problem all season - too many players seem to be going through the motions.

Spoon

Spot on David and a fair appraisal of situation. For me We have built too many players up to be something they aren’t from emotional attachment and a fear of criticising from within as we know those outside are lining up to put us and the players down. Many are decent or better when they are on form and focused (and available) but we have lots in the first 11 who are like holy cows that you cant criticise but don’t produce near enough consistently. I would take money for Kent, Kamara and Barasic would give it, I wouldn’t re-sign Arfield, Goldson, Roofe and several others who are coming towards the end of their contracts. I despair at our constant mantra of ‘he’s great when he’s fit’ for guys who miss half the season. Obviously it’s not possible to move everyone on but there’s a big enough list we could really refresh things by shifting a fair few. I want the manager to be ruthless with those not performing, no sentiment and make sure those who get their chance and don’t take it drop out, although this year we would end up fielding about 4 players a game…

Paul Marks

Perfect analogy David, sadly we have a team who just thought they had to just turn up this year and the game was won. It’s harder to retain a title as everyone wants to fake points if the Champions. Sundays reaction is key, the league is far from over however the next 2 games against Hearts and Hibs are pivotal. In reality is straightforward, win all the remaining games and we win the league !

Heart and Hand

Jack, Balogun, Davis, Ramsey, Morelos all need to come in immediately.

Stephen

They think they've won the league. They went hell for leather for 45 minutes and had players blowing a gasket going off injured. yet we still had chances . But not a dicky bird during analysis on sportscene. Apparently a game only lasts 45 minutes. Jack played them off the park second half.

KMS

It's a shame the players won't hear any rousing speeches or comments, they don't deserve the fanbase we have, our support is 2nd to none, our love for our club is unparrallelled. The fact they can take to the field and turn in a performance like that should be a Rangers career ender for some of them, Barasic can feck off back to wherever he wants, his spineless performance in particular was sickening, i hate cowards in general, but a coward in a Rangers team is unforgivable

Kenny Morrow

Usually I can brush it off and move on. However, I just can't get that defeat out of my head. It has consumed my whole Thursday. The sheer manner of it is what is the most disturbing. Negative tactics, negative mindset. We got intimidated by a set of fucking disco lights. Plenty of work to be done between now and Sunday. We need last seasons Rangers for the remaining league games.

James Kenny

Thanks David, you have articulated exactly how I am feeling right now. You want 6 or 7 changes for Sunday, well I hope you're right, just don't hold your breath. I will be there cheering on the Rangers jerseys but I won't be cheering on some of the cowards currently filling them.

Shaun Watson

i'm glad you are asking about the high press, no team in the spl can cope with pressure on their defence, we need to exploit that. I would love you to ask the question "are the players not listening to your instructions?" rather than about the character as Gio can easily talk his way out that question.

Andrew Whiteside

Can’t argue with anything said David. I hope you get serious answers to your questions at the press conference

Scott McMillan

I echo your mindset David in relation to players becoming stale. I think we can all agree as much as we wanted to hold onto the likes of Kent, Kamara etc the fact we didn’t add any real quality in the summer raised concerns of this happening and think that is exactly what the issue is. Do we honestly in our heart of hearts believe GVB is telling our players to drop back when our best asset under SG was stifling teams with it? He tweaked the fullbacks initially which helped us defensively but it’s clear their are certain players who lack the hunger any longer and definitely need to move on cone the summer.

Gaz Canobi

Good choice of song today

Nick Cowling

Remembering the interview with the great Ian Ferguson where he discussed how he dealt with Di Canio and the general point was made: Rangers can play football but if it needs to be a battle, we can win that too. For me, that is the key thing that was missing against them. Ryan Jack and another enforcer in the centre of the park. We need people of the mindset of McCall, Ferguson etc. Not sure that Barisic can play again after that. He will need to show some anger, aggression and heart if he wants to stay at the club.
