Martyn is joined by David and John to conclude season 1986/87 as Rangers responded to the Hamilton humiliation with a 5 star show at Tynecastle and never looked back in their pursuit of a first title in nine years. Media management and 5-a-sides are discussed with a whole lot more, as Souness made pressure his overriding theme in those closing months.

Loving this show - the memories it is evoking are simply glorious! 👏

Johnnie Mitchell

Another great show lads. Nearly brought a tear to my eye though the talk of trophy day V St Mirren. My Dad couldn’t get us tickets that day having been to a lot of the other home matches. 😢

Steve Clark

I was at tannadice for the 1-0 unfortunately I didn’t see any of it as I got lifted two mins after entering the ground walking through the Dundee Utd support to get to the bears who had taken over half there shed behind the goal😆

Steve Clark

Anybody who was at dens for the 4-0 win remember the absolute roasting Tosh McKinley got off the rangers support, when he was subbed he ran off the pitch in tears😂

john cowden

That was me and the rest of the Partick loyal and rosevale supporters buses. (He came from Partick, Tosh is in the huff being the highlight) Wanted to speak about it on pod but Martyn wanted a shortened pod ! Cracking game as well in that wind.

Steve Clark

That Hearts game at ibrox is the day I said we are winning this league.that day the tims were playing st mirren and by the time we got onto the M8 the tims busses are on it and as were abusing them you could see in their faces they knew as well.

Tom McDavid

McKinley for Celtic & Tosh is in the huff. Legendary roasting that night 😂

William Hughes

Mind The Coop missed an open goal with a header of all things from a brilliant McCoist cross at Tyncastle. Great victory that day.

Steve Clark

I was in the enclosure that night and it was hilarious.we were magnificent that night.

Tom McDavid

The 2 wins in Dundee in 4 days felt massive.

Steve Clark

I knew it was going to be a special day at pittodrie.i lived in forfar and it was before the by pass was built and I was out at 8 in the morning to get the papers and the rolls.a Rangers supporters bus past on the way up to Aberdeen.at its height their was a three mile tail back of busses going through the town.what a day

Steve Clark

What a brilliant episode.thank you martyn,David and John for bringing back some fantastic memories

Steve Clark

The win at dens was something special as we had struggled so badly at dens.the way we went about it probably the best performance I have ever seen from a rangers team at dens

Matthew Macgillivray

Just before my time, I was born in 83, this show brings to life the stories I heard from my Dad about the Souness revolution. Bravo

Martyn Ramsay

Thanks for all the kind comments. Glad it’s pushing some nostalgia buttons for those who remember the period but I also hope it’s providing a fresh perspective on the era for everyone, whether you lived through it or not.

john cowden

Agree with you both. Dens was a really tough shift back then and to go there and win comfortably, was wonderful.

Tom McDavid

The wind was a huge factor that night. We were 3-0 up at HT but they had wind 2nd half. However I think we got the 4th just after HT and then preceded to rip the piss out of Tosh.

Grant Sneddon

Absolutely loving it mate, as my first era was 1998 to get an indeoth insight into the era that proceeded me is amazing

Martin Boyd

Didn’t go to Aberdeen as it was a bit of a crap journey from London and tbh I thought we would win it the following week against StMirren. Big mistake but at least there was no tension the following week for a fantastic day.

Ross Matheson

Yesterday was the anniversary of the Hearts 5-2 game at Tynecastle too. Good timing for listening to it. Keep on top of them all Martyn! Like all good empires, the show needs a strong leader telling the lower downs what they can and can't do. :D If you want to shorten the show too, get one of the tech savvy youngers to edit every time John says "Urmmmmmm" and it'll be half as long! I can't unhear him saying it now and it's stuck in my head. :D

Callum Dinnen

In a perverse way I'm looking forward to next week's show; I'll be interested on the views of those who were there at the time as to why 87/88 ended in failure.

Heart and Hand

You realise your cheek will see the show cancelled and replaced with ‘David and John read the 1989 BT Phonebook’.

William Hughes

Excellent pod lads. Pittodrie was incredible. 2 snide tickets and genuine ticket for the Aberdeen section to the right of the Beach end later, the highs and on the pitch flinging bits of turf back into the crowd. Lap of honour and journey back to Glasgow on the bus was bouncing. Great memories.

Ross Matheson

See if you're doing that, can you get Gail Evans's phone number for me? Never had a chance to speak to her since the 6th year night out...

Ross Matheson

Aye, kids these days with their own mobile phones don't know the heartache / fear.

Lee Colvin

As Davie Cooper said at the end of that seasons video, "It's not the end,It's just the beginning".

Scott Christian

I remember Dundee Utd fans singing FoS at Roberts’s debut? Think they were up in the end of the Main Stand. (Could be a later match v them but they were definitely there and singing that at a game when I was in the west enclosure!)

Rob Shorthouse

Terrific show. I remember being sat on the living room floor listening to the Aberdeen game on the radio. It was unbelievably tense - and incredibly emotional when the whistle went. Like a lot of us, I'd never known Rangers to be competitive in the league before. Great days.

Scott Watson

Tremendous show, thank you all One of the things that you have already mentioned is that David Holmes is the forgotten man of the era, and that's certainly true for me because I really didn't know anything much about who he was or what he had done other than being a name that was involved in our history at some point. I am glad to have remediated this small part of my ignorance, so thank you very much for that in particular

Douglas Innes

The thing about Scotsport and Sportscene it was 1 game each night/day sat/sun and didn't always contain both Rangers & Celtic but the highlights maybe gave you a better insight in how your future opponents were playing , night & day from present 6 minute segments Great 1st season

Martyn Ramsay

Depending on who you talk to, he perhaps wasn’t as reluctant to enjoy the spotlight at the time but certainly has since leaving. He hasn’t helped himself re the reduced legacy but I’ll do what I can to help shed more light for a new generation

Martyn Ramsay

It’s a great point. For all the advances in tv production quality around the world, incredibly ours seems to have regressed!

Craigieboy 1872

Thank you gentlemen, this is bringing back some fantastic memories, I listen on the way to work... My mood is tremendous when I get there 😁... 👍

Paul Dunnachie

Love the show - these were my early days as a Rangers supporter and the following of game on the radio & building scrapbooks out of the newspaper cuttings were a huge part of it. My recollections of winning the title are of sitting in my parents caravan that was parked up at the end of the garden with my mate who had got me into Rangers and Radio Clyde. We went berserk when Butcher scored, then at the end.. then we played football in the garden being McCoist, Durrant & Cooper to fill the hour or so wait until we walking to the local shop to buy the Sports Times just after 6. Happy and simple times! Will be interested to get to 87/88 season - it’s almost a hobby horse of mine.. so much foundation laid for the next decade but domestically lunging from one setback to the next.

Paul Dunnachie

The commentary and depth of discussion about football and the attributes of the individual players was streets ahead of what is served up now.
