There's a coincidence. I was just listening to Candy Skin by The Fire Engines last night and, reading up on it, I think that's the song where this band got their name from.

Kirk Guthrie

That B-team field looks absolutely rotten.

Stuart

Total embarrassment. Can we find out who’s responsible so we can fire off an email expressing not anger but disappointment?

Kirk Guthrie

Is my eyesight going, or does the pitch slope in that far corner? 🤦‍♂️

Gordon Mac

Thought my telly had been transported back to the 70s

Brian Rae

Is there a rule that prevents us from using the RTC pitch for these Euro B games? That pitch is an embarrassment that reflects badly on our club despite it not even being our own pitch.

Rickie Clark

Brilliant line of questioning from Mark and David, which were answered honestly and succinctly by John Lundstram.

Paul Shanley

Just listened to the extra show, hope David had some money on the hearts game since he mentioned “if we smash hearts 5-0’ 🤣

Martin Boyd

Can we have the referee from the B team game today please? One of the best I have seen this season , actually scrap that , the best I have seen.

Gary Burnett

Good point about the referee's wage. How much does a professional referee get in a similar league?

Colin Mathie

So we're gonna go back to previous performances then now that Ryan Jack is out, again!

Martin Davies

David, regarding your point on professional referees. I worked beside one of Scotland top refs for a while, and I asked him why it would make a difference. There's a limit to how physically fit a ref needs to be, and it's not like the refs don't know the rules. I couldn't understand how being full time could help improve those split second decisions. His response was very interesting. When you are trying to hold down a day job, and are constantly asking your boss to leave early to get to midweek games or take days off for Euro and international games, it brings a stress. Sometimes leaving meetings early because you're getting picked up to head to Pittodrie on a Wednesday night. Still thinking about the day job when you should be focused on the game. I don't believe most of these guys are in it for the money. Most have decent day jobs and careers, so your £1k/game becomes £500/game take home. Not great for the abuse and grief you get. What makes professional refs a problem is the salary you'd have to offer. People won't give up well paying careers to focus full time on refereeing. Might be a good topic to discuss with H&Hs resident referees on a pod!

Heart and Hand

I think lots would be a pro ref for 50k per year with two months off in summer! Your stress point also strengthens it. They would be free to focus on it.

Martin Davies

A £50k salary would certainly entice more people to take up refereeing and see it as a viable career rather than a extra curricular hobby. But I'm not sure it's enough for a teacher or lawyer to chuck the day job.

Craig

Not sure if it's accurate, but I heard that BT put the kibosh on using the training centre as there's no space for a proper camera setup.

G Calder

It's probably not many lawyers etc would chuck the day job for 50k - but what is wrong with someone who is from a more traditional ' working class' background ( whatever that is these days )? I'm sure there are a group of non bias , intelligent & fit individuals within the UK ( not just Scotland ) that would do a MUCH better job for 50k a year ..
