John and Andy are with Martyn to revisit the fastest start to a season a Souness team ever made and what impact it had on not just the season, but the decade to come.

The 5-1 game is probably still my favourite match. Nearly got barred from my local for singing “Happy birthday dear Celtic “ 😂😂

I think 1988/89 was my favourite of the Souness years season reviews we had, probably because of the Old Firm highlights. There's already an amazing contrast between part 1 of this season compared to the last 2. 86/87 has moments of promise in amongst disappointing defeats, 87/88 is a shambles. This so far has just been relentless positivity.

More fabulous memories thanks all. Intrigued about the souness diary, must try and find that. I went to the Cooper testimonial too. We managed the old fashioned way of my dad lifting me over- a good feat given I was 14!! That was a great match though and a great start to the season. Along with practically every fan I recorded Scotsport that Sunday and watched and watched and watched!! Sensational!

You had to wait 24 hours for the scotsport of the 5-1 game? Living in England my rangers tv viewing in the 80s was waiting on my dad bringing video tapped scotsports when he was back home from the navy. Don’t think I saw it until about November!

Andy Barnett

The “5 past Ian Andrews” joke lasted the whole school year of my primary 4.

Rona Bluebell

Got a vague memory of being at tannadice not long after but standing outside Dens Park gates as Andrews was the reserve goalkeeper for Celtic, with Rangers fans singing there’s only one Ian Andrews. Brutal.

Rangers arranged to have the Katowice away game shown on the screens at Ibrox, think kick off was about 4pm. I know me and my 2 mates watched it from the Govan Rear

Great listening again, a great team, amazing how the memory brings back small incidents. After the second leg of the tie against the poles, I think it was Derek Johnstone who made a quip, broadcast on radio Clyde about how Rangers had dished out another beating to the Popes 11....The Pope at that time being Polish. He would possibly be arrested for inciting sectarian hatred if he broadcast something like that to-day.
