Anyone else living with the irony of searching prices of hotels and flights for Seville while also worrying about playing Dundee. Crazy times.

Agree with Steven about Tav’s legacy. I find it absolutely mental that he still has his doubters. We are incredibly luck he has stayed here for his peak years as he could be playing for a mid table EPL side no problem at all.

Rudden played for thistle v dunfermline in the cup

For me Aribo was some distance our best player for the first half of this season. Breaking the bank? I dunno but it’ll be a travesty if we don’t get top money or a new extension for Joe ….imho

Can't believe Bruce Staff went off to Gotham and didn't even send in a score prediction 😀 Real heroes don't skulk around the streets at night in fetish wear, alarming the locals, they make podcasts for fellow bears to enjoy, so thank you very much gentlemen. As always I very much enjoyed the detailed profile of the opposition, although even Steven's famed powers of analysis were inadequate to unravel the mystery of Dundee's decision making. There's really been quite a few bizarre management choices in the SPL over the last year but hiring a manager that's banned for his first month or two in charge when you are hoping for a change of the momentum of your season is one of the strangest Very interesting talking point on player contracts and wage structures. I think in principle we all understand and agree the importance of having (and sticking to) a strong financial model. We have lived through the consequences of failing to do this and I don't think anyone would dispute the importance of having that discipline once they sit down and think beyond any immediate emotional reaction to the thought of losing one player or another. I do think it is still possible to stick to these very prudent principles but leave a bit of room for the "bend don't break" flexibility that you discussed. One obvious example from the last few weeks - we've made the last 16 and, touch wood, we are in with a very decent chance of making the quarter finals of the europa league. All the proceeds we get from those ties will (I very much hope) be above and beyond our financial planning for the season. Can we take that money, or a part of it, and make a one-off exception to the wage structure. Say to Alfie (for example) - "right, this is our upper limit but we're taking 2 million of the europa proceeds and giving you 10 grand a week extra on top of that for 4 years. In 2 years time you will either move on for big money with our heartfelt gratitude and best wishes, or you'll sign another contract, but you'll only get the same terms if we're in a similar position due to results beyond our planning." The last bit would be the key thing - if we start making one-off exceptions they have to really BE one-off UNLESS we get the renewed income to make another one-off exception. Ideally we do get the fabled trading model going and we recruit well and can continue to have this sort of European success to fuel those exceptions regularly - but even if they are happening every year, we still don't PLAN for them to happen, so that when inevitably we do have a bad year, we are still financially sound (Just to be absolutely clear, the internet being what it is, I am joking about taking a night off to go to the pictures, hope it was good!)

In that first couple of months when Gio came in he looked like he'd clicked into the player we've always thought he could be - to the point where he was rested for that league game against Dundee United to make sure he didn't pick up a yellow and miss the old firm that ended up getting postponed anyway. He's clearly not been back at that level since the turn of the year and/or AFCON but hopefully he can finish the season in the same way The problem we have with all three of them is what Kev was getting at - we are really already a year too late in the "sign now or ship out" conversation. Once players are down to 12 months on their contract the temptation will be there to just run it down because the number of clubs that will come in for them on a free will be greater, and the signing fees/wages they will get will be higher. Teams that do come in with bids will be more likely to lowball because they know we have to take something or risk losing out completely. Doesn't always work like that of course, we might get lucky with a bidding war or similar, but for our "tradeable assets" that we expect to sell at some point, we really shouldn't be letting them ever dip below 2 years left on their contract

“If Mark McGhee is the answer in 2022, then what is the question?” 😂 that got me chuckling, Kevin

Judging by his recent comments in the media about how it ended, seems like he's spent most of the time since then stewing over how hard done by he is

I have to apologise Mr Staff did send us a score prediction 3-1, but we forgot. Guess that's what happens when you leave Robin in charge!

We used to sing the Bassey song about Murty 😬
